What could cause my index finger to be numb and tingle when touching the joint of the finger?

I am having burning sensation on the side of my index finger between the middle joint and top joint. There has not been any injury, no blisters, skin breakage,tingling or discoloration. The burning seems to be closer to the middle joint and more tender if I put any pressure on the joint. I had surgery many years ago for carpal tunnel but this doesnt feel anything like that. It is in only one finger and always on the side. I have tried using an anti imflamatory cream with no relief.

is it your thumb,index and middle finger that is doing it ? If so its probably carpal tunnel like linzola1 said. I have it for years now, its getting worse though. i'll need surgery in the future. have you injured your arm recently, this can cause it to come on all of sudden like.

I woke up one day with my thumb, index finger and middle finger on my right hand numb and tingling. 2 weeks later my bottom lip and tip of my tongue went numb. 2 weeks after that my thumb, index finger and middle finger on my left hand went numb. Then 3 weeks after that both lips, my chin and area around my mouth and part of my cheeks went numb. This is all in a 3 month timeframe. My numbness has gotten so bad I can barely eat (entire mouth numb including tongue) and I have trouble talking.

I also notice the same numbness whenenever I ride my bike after 20 minutes or so. There also is a rash (?) on my index finger than resembles eczema on the backside of the finger and just dry dead skin on the side and palmside of the finger. What could be causing this? What should I do? I do not experience the same numbness with my left hand at all!!

Every time I press or scratch the inside of my left. hand in the area between the thumb and index finger, I get the tingling feeling which is almost like chills at the back of my head. Should I be concerned?? Any ideas.

I recently sustained a cut to my left index finger. The laceration is nearly 6 cm long, stops less than 1 mm from the bone, is nearly perpendicular to the finger, faces towards the thumb, and begins just above the palm area. I had CTS surgery 4 weeks ago which relieved the tingling and numbness in my thumb, index and middle finger. Prior to surgery I had numbness in all of my fingers on my right hand. Carpal tunnel syndrome is due to median nerve compression at wrist as a result tingling is felt at thumb, index and middle finger whereas ulnar nerve compression at elbow causes tingling in little and ring finger. Best will be to rule out cervical spondylosis by getting MRI done. Pain killers, physiotherapy along with hot compressions is usually done for cervical nerve compression.

Another possibility is that this is actually going the other way, that the issue is in your forearm such as a pinched nerve and moving down to the thumb and index finger. I suggest you see your doctor to help sort this out. Let us know what they say.

t think much of it until a month later when the pain become more severe, sometimes when moving my index or middle finger on my right hand I would get a shock run up my finger and arm and my index finger would go numb for a few minutes and my hands seemed to be losing grip strength. I have had about 5 corticosteroid injections in my left index finger over the course of those 3 years. Previously the shots did wonders and I was pain free, but not with my last injection.
