My right index finger has been swollen for a month now. the knuckle is painful to the touch, but i'm able to bend it. Any ideas what it could be?? Thanks for any help!
my index finger is geting swollen in the middle and it stings when bend it what can be the cause of it
I took a puck off of my right index finger and didn't really notice any immediate pain. Over the next couple days I noticed that I couldn't form a fist because my finger was very swollen and hurt to bend that far. Upon further observation I noticed that my first finger knuckle had become very wide, but the rest of my finger remained regular size. It is also very sensitive to touch. This injury happened about a month ago, and I left it assuming it would just heal itself as most injuries seem to.
I was doing heavy filing and grabbing and pulling the files out of a tight bookcas I injured my index finger middle joint which already has some arthritis in it. Now I can barely bend it without pain and can put little pressure on it to type or play piano - the dr said it was very swollen and take naparoxen and ice it. i was doing that and seemed somewhat better but today i was trying to bend it more and now it si worse again.
I am 23 year old female and have enchondroma on my left hand index finger. Should i get it operated? What diffrence will i feel after it has been operated.
For three months I've had an index finger that has been swollen with on and off pain. It was a gradual thing. There was no injury that caused this. I have seen an Orthopedic doctor and have also had xrays, blood work, CT, and MRI. All only show tendonitis. The doctor sent me to Physical Therapy for one month where it has not been helpful. I only have half of the range of motion as I should have. Cannot flex or extend all the way.
I am 33 and in very good health. The 1st knuckle on my index finger is pretty swollen, stiff and has a fair amount of pain when I bend or touch it. I have already been to urgent care, and was told it was not infected due to no heat or redness. I was given Ibuprofen and a splint, told to follow up tomorrow if no improvement. They sugest bloodwork to test for uric acid or arthritis. he said possibly gout, but that is usually more painful.
I have a very swollen index finger on my left hand . What can cause this? Iv had a mastectomy and all my lymph glands removed . Could this be the cause.?
Index finger was slammed in door 2 weeks ago - it was cut on both sides of finger but the cuts have healed and were never infected. My finger is still very swollen around the joint and it really hurts to bend - could this be fluid buildup and if so, can I do anything at home to relieve it?
Hi! I dislocated my index finger while playing volleyball. I reduced it myself and at first didn't give it much attention since it was just a finger. I didn't consult a doctor nor took any X rays. 2 weeks after the accident i could almost completely bend my finger. So i thought it was about time to try to push it more, so i bent it several times all the way, sometimes with help from my other hand.
First phallange of index finger is swollen. Inflammation on handling dusty objects. Advise.
I have swelling the area between my index finger and my thumb. I'm thinking it is the muscles & ligaments in this area. The area is hard and swollen and painful to hold and move those two fingers. Additionally, the range of movement for my thumbs have been reduced to 50% I cannot stretch my thumb back without serious pain and discomfort. This is the case in both hands and it just occured between last night while sleeping. What could have cause this. P.S.
I had a serious accident on 12/5/10 where my middle finger was amputated between the 1st and 2nd joints (above the PIP) and my index finger was fractured (not sure what type of fracture, but it goes horizontally across my finger). Doctors were unable to save the middle finger, but they sewed up my index finger the night of the 5th (it was pretty much split open). I had surgery the following day and had 2 pins inserted into my index finger.
I lacerated the tendon between my fingernail and knuckle on my left index finger about 4 years ago.(on the top of the finger). I had surgery to repair the tendon and then had to have the internal sutures removed about 6 months later because they used a thicker suture and they kept poking through the skin. Since then my finger has a clicking sound when I bend it but as of lately it is very painful all the time and the pain shoots up my arm at times.
I had an infection on my left index finger last week with yellow pus so I used hot water and a wash cloth wrapped it around my finger and put lite pressure on the finger and drained the pus.after that i used typical ointment and bandage until the infections was gone.however its back again ugh!!!!!!!!!!!!! does anyone know why the infection is back AGAIN.

My son had a cluster of warts on his left index finger. I took him to a dermatologist and he put some sort of acid on it. The first time, the warts bubbled up and bursted. It hurt, but after a week it felt better This last time he put more acid on it and it has oozed from day 1 and been TERRIBLY painful. After 5 days, the Dr. gave him an antibiotic and pain medication. It has been a week now and it the warts are brown in color, not swollen up, and still EXTREMELY painful.
didn't know how to describe these episodes. So what brought me here, is I woke up from GA also with a numb index finger and thumb on my left hand. I was told this should go away, within a week. It is still here....so sad and worried. I would like to know why this happened, when he said he was not near C5 which is the nerve responsible for these two digits. They feel swollen, they appear like the circulation has been affected. I thought originally it may have been from the intervenous...
But my middle finger, index finger and thumb are definitely numb and slightly swollen. My index finger, though, is the only finger experiencing some pain along with the numbness and swelling. Things to note: I did not bang my elbow on anything. I have rested it while sitting at my computer and have been bending it and actively using my left arm where my left arm has had to bend fast and flex out with more than ten pounds (lifting and putting away groceries mostly).
Yesterday I was pruning my Berberis (it has very hard and long thorns), wearing gloves. A thorn pierced my glove and went into the joint at the base of my index finger. I took my glove off and could see a small red mark where it had pierced the skin. It hurt but similar to getting a bad splinter. There was no sign of anything in the skin. By a few hours later the joint was aching quite a bit but I could still use it.
Hi Welcome to the MedHelp forum! Either there is infection or inflammation due to rheumatoid arthritis or reactive arthritis. Generally throbbing pain with heat indicates an infection. It needs anti-inflammatory drugs and antibiotics for cure. It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage without examining. Do consult your doctor. Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING FINGER PAIN. MY LEFT INDEX FINGER GET SWOLLEN AND IT BECOMES WARM TO TOUCH. AT THE TIP IT IS VERY PAINFUL, COULD THIS BE FROM ME BEING B12 DEFIC.
I also buddy taped it. Now, two days later, it is still swollen and the middle joint of my index finger hurts. I can only bend it about halfway before it begins feeling stiff and hurts. I am not sure if it is just a jammed finger or a sprain or is there a fracture or dislocation?
It looks like blisters that normally cover the tip of my finger. Either finger swells up two or three times a year and I can't write when or do anything else when it's that swollen. It looks clear underneath and lasts for several days before it becomes somewhat "soft" and then hardens into a scab that I can pick off. {Gross, I know!} I've seen my GP several times and even went to another GP for a second opinion but none of them know what it could be.
Yesterday I was on a knee board and my index finger got smashed between the rope handle and the rope holder on the knee board. My finger hurt really bad for a couple of seconds and by the time I got out of the water was very swollen. There has been very little pain, but my finger has remained swollen, bruised, tingly and a little colder at the tip than my other fingers.
it is on the side of the middle knuckle, not centered around the pucture, but to the side. at the widest point my index finger is a good 1/4 inch wider than the other finger. Now there is a red tint to the swelling but no discharge at the punctures. Im getting worried as it seems like it must be getting infected, and its obviously far from the surface. What can a doctor do? oral antibiotics? amputate? or is it just residual swelling from deep bruising?
When i was 11 a girl broke my right index finger at school and no one believed me when I said it was broken. So obviously it wasn't splinted or even buddy tapped. In the eight grade my mom took me to a doctor that told her that my finger did break and that the bone healed eight degrees off. After six months of trying to buddy tape it and splint it, the bone only moved two degrees. The doctor recommended surgery to pin and straighten out the bone and my mom decided on getting me the surgery.
