Common Questions and Answers about Index finger not straight

finger

I was at work writing in a chart (I wright right handed but do everything else left handed) and all of a sudden my finger was stiff and straight. with my palm facing the floor my left index finger was pointing straight down. I didn't really hurt just felt unusual, when I tried to force it to bend it hurt and I was afraid I would break my finger so I stopped. I started to kind of panic because I had no control over my finger.
It has been 10 days and the numbness/tingling of the index finger has not gone away from the finger tip and the right side of the finger. I also had some wrist pain as a result of the tiling process. Should I consult a doctor or will the numbness dissipate with time?
Hi! I dislocated my index finger while playing volleyball. I reduced it myself and at first didn't give it much attention since it was just a finger. I didn't consult a doctor nor took any X rays. 2 weeks after the accident i could almost completely bend my finger. So i thought it was about time to try to push it more, so i bent it several times all the way, sometimes with help from my other hand.
Numbness in tips of thumb, index finger, and sort of middle finger. Ibuprofen and Naprosyn didn't touch the pain. Neither hot nor cold helped. Went to the MD and the xrays show the disk spaces are ok. The MD diagnosed it as cervical myalgia and prescribed Ultram for the pain and made a referral to physical therapy. The thinking is it will resolve on its own, but PT would help "move it along.
The top of the fingers were cut on the pulley but are healing okay. The problem is the burns are not healing and he cannot make a fist. The middle finger is not closing in and the top of it is bent inward. He gets some shocking pains through the fingers sometimes as well. There is no swelling and it doesn't seem to be infected, the bones are not broken either. On the burnt part of the fingers the wound is hard and cracks if he moves it too much and bleeds.
When i was 11 a girl broke my right index finger at school and no one believed me when I said it was broken. So obviously it wasn't splinted or even buddy tapped. In the eight grade my mom took me to a doctor that told her that my finger did break and that the bone healed eight degrees off. After six months of trying to buddy tape it and splint it, the bone only moved two degrees. The doctor recommended surgery to pin and straighten out the bone and my mom decided on getting me the surgery.
I'm old. I am not a doctor. I broke a finger when I was young. I taped it to the next finger. It healed crooked. Although I am used to it and there is no pain, it affects some things that I really like to do, like playing guitar. Doctors are overly cautious now because of petty lawsuits. (I'm suing you because you didn't take care of my broken pinky and it healed wrong.) If you want it to heal correctly, do what your doctor says. End of sermon.
It started with my index finger having spasms, and then moved to in between my middle finger and pointer finger knuckle. It now is deblilitating my pinkie and ring finger and causing some minor pain in the outside part of my wrist. With my hand straight out I cannot I cannot put my pinkie or ring finger together and I cannot get my ring finger together with my middle finger. Any thoughts? I have attached a pic of how close I can get my fingers together. I am 32 and relatively healthy.
I like the profile name. :) I am not dx but, yes, I have single finger tremor's - my left ring finger, pinky and thumb and one on my right hand (I don't know which one.) The tremor's are worse in the hand/arm that I have tremor's in. These are new.

I have been experiencing numbness and tingling in my little finger and ring finger on my right hand and some numbness on the side of my hand. It is beginning to interfere with my normal activities. I went to my general practitioner who sent me for a nerve conduction test. The physiatrist who conducted the test told me I had carpal tunnel syndrome. However, everything I have researched on the internet suggests I have ulnar nerve entrapment or possibly a cyst in the Guyon canal.
Now his index finger is bent, but works fine. But however he plays instruments and he's not able to put his finger out straight. Would a skin graft have to be done? Will doctors cut the skin and replace it with another piece?
Walking across an intersection I got hit by a car that was making a right hand turn. I remember that I could not figure out how I went from walking in a straight line to suddenly being face down in the street. Now comes the funny stuff, you have to realize that I have suffered enormous amounts of pain in my life. I have cut my index finger on one the halves of my femur that was sticking out the side of my leg. Worst cut I ever felt, pretty painful.
Hi, I have recently noticed that the upper tips of my index and second finger are turned or bent toward my other fingers (away from my thumb). This is on both hands but the right is more noticable. The drift seems to start at the joint closest to the nail. The only thing I have been able to find on this is Ulnar drift which appears to start at the base of the finger. My fingers are straight up to the last joint. I have no pain or loss of use in any of my fingers or hands.
i have suffered from a similar condition. problem started with what looked like tiny blisters on my thumb and index finger (left hand). this has progressed to wrinkly look on thumb and first three fingers (left hand). apart from the fact it looks at bit funny it hadnt caused me any problems until two weeks ago when i started to lose sensitivity in those finger tips. spoke to my dermatologist when i was in gettin my moles checked and he tried to tell me i had excema. not likely!
your heart sits directly center across from your nipple line a just very slightly to the left so if the pain that you feel is further over it may very well be something that is muscular related and that could also include the shortness of breath if you have a pull or a strain. I always do the touch test and if i place my index finger between the ribs where the pain is and its an owww moment i know its not heart related.
When scalene muscle is the cause of pain, the pain is referred to chest, inner lining of scapula (shoulder bone), shoulder, posterior and lateral sides of the arm right up to the thumb and index finger. Pancreatitis is another possibility. Adhesions in the abdomen following surgeries could be the other cause. Do discuss these possibilities with your treating doctor. Take care!
Hi, so I know I am really late but back in high school, I broke my index finger during a gymnastics incident and I had to get surgery and had a few pins placed in my finger for a couple months. My surgeon did a terrible job and my results were not that great... As of now...6 years later... my finger barely bends from the middle joint and just stays in about a 20 degree bent position and cannot go back to its straight position without any assisted help.
Position the patient with the arm extended to form a straight-line from shoulder to wrist. 6. Do not attempt a venipuncture more than twice. Notify your supervisor or patient's physician if unsuccessful. 7. Select the appropriate vein for venipuncture. The larger median cubital, basilic and cephalic veins are most frequently used, but other may be necessary and will become more prominent if the patient closes his fist tightly.
I had a very stiff neck and shoulders for several weeks. That's better now, but yesterday--and only yesterday--my index finger would occasionally and suddenly start to ache intensely...the only thing I can think to compare it to would be arthritis, although I don't really know what that feels like; but it felt like it was all along the bone. And it would become really intense and then just go away after a while. Same thing in my left knee--both worse at bedtime.
i first noticed it when i had my left hand bent, like holding up my head sitting on couch, my arm was going numb, so i would shake my arm and lay it straight, now i have constent numbness in my index finger tip as well as my middle and ring finger, now i have it in my toes, still left side....

Hi, 3 days ago I had a terrible pain in the middle of my chest, followed a couple of minutes later by a severe pain under my left shoulder blade, then a few minutes later followed by tingling in my left pinky & ring finger. Went straight to my doctor here in a rural town. Blood pressure was 160 / 100 & they did a EKG. The EKG was good, Chest XRay was normal.
