I recently sustained a cut to my left index finger. The laceration is nearly 6 cm long, stops less than 1 mm from the bone, is nearly perpendicular to the finger, faces towards the thumb, and begins just above the palm area. I have mild numbness in and around the injury site and slight tingling towards the tip of the affected finger. I've already had the finger stitched up (8 stitches) and am awaiting a consult with an orthopedic surgeon.
Couple of hours ago while suturing some patient i felt that something sharp touched the distal part of my index finger and it turns out to be the needle. I immediately removed the glove i was using an washed my hand thoroughly with iodine, running water and chlorhexidine. After that i started to re assess my finger. There wasnt any wound visible to naked eye nor any bleeding. The patient was a healthy in general 38 year old male with laceration wound due to falling off stairs.
I had a deep jagged laceration in the webbing between my index and middle finger of my dominant (right) hand, requiring 5 stitches. I was told to come back and get them removed in 12 days. 12 days pass and I go back today to get them out. The doctor says nothing (no aftercare instructions or anything), just says "it looks great" and sends me out. The cut is still open as though it hasn't closed.
An open wound for the means of possibly contacting HIV is an open laceration. Not a little cut, nicks etc. If you got a laceration from a bone from a victim of an auto accident then you might have a risk of contracting HIV.
Considering how easy the skin peeled off, what if the laceration causing the peeled of skin on the middle finger already occured prior to fingering incident, but since the skin was not peeled off yet, then no sore was felt on the area of laceration and no blood was coming out from it during the fingering. I really need your advice whether I am at risk of contracting HIV from this incident.
After finishing placement of the line i noticed i had blood on my exposed finger. A day or two prior i nicked that finger with my razor. there was no major laceration and no blood at the site. I washed off the blood and didnt really think much of it. Now for past 4 days i have had diarrhea and pain in my groin along with headaches.
There is no guy that is going to finger you with a large laceration on his finger. It just isn't going to happen.
When you all said fresh laceration..How is the consider Fresh?so it mean it can be a risks if the woman laceration is bleeding?

I thought nothing of it until I got home and noticed my index finger bleeding a bit. I rinsed my finger for a few minutes and forced myself to bleed out a bit more to prevent infection. I then placed a cotton pad soaked with hydrogen peroxide on the cut.
My question is, do I need PEP? I do not know this woman's status but I do know the area I was in has a lot of drug addicts and a high STI/HIV prevalence.
I took a puck off of my right index finger and didn't really notice any immediate pain. Over the next couple days I noticed that I couldn't form a fist because my finger was very swollen and hurt to bend that far. Upon further observation I noticed that my first finger knuckle had become very wide, but the rest of my finger remained regular size. It is also very sensitive to touch.
I have muscle wastage between thump and index finger, above little finger on the edge of the hand and wastage between between the fingers on the back of the hand. I believe the muscle wastage is a classic symptom of a defective unla nerve. Some 30 years later I have had a pension review because they believe the nerve could have grown back and now doubt my statement that things have actually got worse.
Just out of curiosity though, say her finger was bleeding or had a laceration, how does that differ from penetrative sex?
With condom or none in oral sex is no risk at all. A cut in the finger,scratch, superficial abrasion/laceration and etc.. dont give enough pathways to your veins where you can get infected.
Back in March I was holding a little girl that was standing on my lap and she lost her balance and squatted down. My hand was behind her knee and my right index finger popped and then hurt really bad for awhile. I assumed it would go away and it didn't. A few days later I went to urgent care. They took x-rays and saw nothing and told me to take ibuprofen and continue to use it like normal.
I am a 56 years old female and in relatively good health. I take one medication for hbp. Recently the middle joints of my little fingers are very tender, red and tend to be very itchy, if that makes any sense and I've also begun noticing some tiny red nodules at the first joint of my index fingers and little fingers. Some times the nodules are a little more pronouced than other times.
I had surgery the following day and had 2 pins inserted into my index finger. I had those pins in my index finger for 4 weeks (just had them removed on 1/10/11).
I haven't been able to move that index finger for 4 weeks since the pins were still in there, as any movement in that finger caused extreme pain...but now my index finger seems to be stuck in that same position (slightly curved, as if holding a cup).
