Avatar n tn My right index finger has been swollen for a month now. the knuckle is painful to the touch, but i'm able to bend it. Any ideas what it could be?? Thanks for any help!
1744581 tn?1311302411 I also have loss of sensation on the top of my R index finger (actual injury is on the first knuckle, actually on the hand) My understanding of a avulsion is that the bone is either chipped or a small piece tore away from the bone, & that there may be tendon or ligament involvement. The dr told me to practice making a fist which I have extreme pain w/ on the L side. I feel like he doesn't care-he told me there is nothing he can do.

Avatar m tn I took a puck off of my right index finger and didn't really notice any immediate pain. Over the next couple days I noticed that I couldn't form a fist because my finger was very swollen and hurt to bend that far. Upon further observation I noticed that my first finger knuckle had become very wide, but the rest of my finger remained regular size. It is also very sensitive to touch.
Avatar m tn My index finger has chronic pain when it is exposed to cold temps. or if my circulation is lessened in that arm. It's just that finger and only at the finger nail, cuticle area. The feeling is similar to getting it smashed into something. Also, when no pain is present, if I hit it ever so slightly on something, it might as well have been smashed in a door, the feeling would be the same!
Avatar m tn I had surgery the following day and had 2 pins inserted into my index finger. I had those pins in my index finger for 4 weeks (just had them removed on 1/10/11). I haven't been able to move that index finger for 4 weeks since the pins were still in there, as any movement in that finger caused extreme pain...but now my index finger seems to be stuck in that same position (slightly curved, as if holding a cup).
Avatar m tn My question is regarding the first joint of my right hand index finger. I believe it is called the proximal interphalangeal joint. The joint has been very sensitive to the touch for a few weeks with no sign of abating. The joint also hurts a little if I bend it fully, but not nearly as much as if I just touch it with a little pressure. I do not see any outward signs of injury. It is not red or swollen. I have no similar pains in any other fingers or joints.
Avatar m tn I am having burning sensation on the side of my index finger between the middle joint and top joint. There has not been any injury, no blisters, skin breakage, tingling or discoloration. The burning seems to be closer to the middle joint and more tender if I put any pressure on the joint. I had surgery many years ago for carpal tunnel but this doesnt feel anything like that. It is in only one finger and always on the side. I have tried using an anti imflamatory cream with no relief.
Avatar f tn Hello Dr.Santos, Actually the finger that was painful the other day is okay. I mentioned that my index finger was hurting on my left hand to my chiropractor during my regular biweekly adjustment. She gave me an adjustment on the inside of my elbow, she said it was connected to my index finger. After the adjustment, my index finger doesn't hurt any more. However, I do have pain sometimes on several fingers of my right hand, not today though.
Avatar m tn First phallange of index finger is swollen. Inflammation on handling dusty objects. Advise.
Avatar m tn Hello, my younger brother sustained a finger injury when he was at the gym. He had a mishap with a machine and it ended up slicing through his index finger, under the nail. The nail was ripped off and part of the upper nail bed (in the body of the finger itself) is exposed. He put the nail back into place, however the nail bed (?) is still exposed. Should he go to a doctor and get stitches for the injury? See photo: [IMG]http://i51.tinypic.com/2nbd2k7.
Avatar n tn It started with my index finger having spasms, and then moved to in between my middle finger and pointer finger knuckle. It now is deblilitating my pinkie and ring finger and causing some minor pain in the outside part of my wrist. With my hand straight out I cannot I cannot put my pinkie or ring finger together and I cannot get my ring finger together with my middle finger. Any thoughts? I have attached a pic of how close I can get my fingers together. I am 32 and relatively healthy.
Avatar m tn Another possibility is that this is actually going the other way, that the issue is in your forearm such as a pinched nerve and moving down to the thumb and index finger. I suggest you see your doctor to help sort this out. Let us know what they say.
Avatar n tn Do you have numbness of the index finger along with the pain? if yes, it could be carpal tunnel syndrome as it involves index finger mainly. Another possibility is of Raynaud’s phenomenon which is constriction of the blood vessels of the fingers and toes. But it is accompanied by skin color changes. Apply ice compresses over the finger. You can also take OTC pain killers. They should help. Also get your blood sugar levels evaluated.
Avatar n tn I recently sustained a cut to my left index finger. The laceration is nearly 6 cm long, stops less than 1 mm from the bone, is nearly perpendicular to the finger, faces towards the thumb, and begins just above the palm area. I have mild numbness in and around the injury site and slight tingling towards the tip of the affected finger. I've already had the finger stitched up (8 stitches) and am awaiting a consult with an orthopedic surgeon.
Avatar n tn The involuntary movements in your right index finger could be due to use of vibratory tools. This collectively causes Hand-Arm Vibration Syndrome or HAVS. Injury to motor component of nerves can also cause involuntary movements of the hand/finger. Pinched spinal nerve at lower cervical vertebrae too can be a cause.
Avatar f tn Couple of hours ago while suturing some patient i felt that something sharp touched the distal part of my index finger and it turns out to be the needle. I immediately removed the glove i was using an washed my hand thoroughly with iodine, running water and chlorhexidine. After that i started to re assess my finger. There wasnt any wound visible to naked eye nor any bleeding. The patient was a healthy in general 38 year old male with laceration wound due to falling off stairs.
Avatar m tn Hello, hoping someone might be able to help me with this. I was playing guitar and I hit the strings with my index finger. I didn't even notice at the time and it didn't hurt or even draw blood. But the finger was sensitive for a few days and then it started to swell. A few days later the entire top half of the finger was twice the size. I went to see a doctor and she x-rayed it and said she couldn't see anything inside it although the x-ray doesn't pick up everything.
Avatar m tn now what worries me is now i noticed a bump maybe 2 or so inches in, best way i can describe it is its around the size of index finger print, not realy raised too much only in one side of it, which is round and maybe half the thickness of your index finger nail to fingertip base (im sorry i dont know the word for it) how its layed out is if it was circular one side would be barely raised and rough in texture while the other side is also slightly raised but slightly more and the right side of t
Avatar n tn The middle finger (not injured either) will bend but the joint closest to the nail will not curl under. Thumb and Index are fine. I was wondering if there is an injury to one finger can it affect the other fingers beside it?
Avatar m tn Turns out arthritic carpal bones have injured tendons to 1st thumb then index finger a month later. Wrist has to be fused to prevent further damage and carpal tunnel tendon repair attempted in 2 separate surgeries. Can I do any kind of (light) weight training or use a rowing machine after healing up?
Avatar f tn Lately i have had numbness in my thumb, index finger, midfle finger, ring finger and pinky finger as well as pain in this fingers. My wrist, forearm, and elbow gets pain in it. I also get pain when i grip something too long. I also have a hard time laying in bed typing. Is this tendons, ligaments, nerve, inflammation?
Avatar m tn ) Also, since you mention the pain being present since last 10 weeks, I think you might have unknowingly injured your finger (some twist injury) which might have led to some ligamental sprain. You can certainly visit your family doctor and I am sure he can help you with it since it doesn't look to be too serious to visit an orthopedist. Do let us know about the inferences!
Avatar f tn My wife has been to 3 hand specialists, 2 EMGs, x ray, MRI and nerve entrapment surgery. She has loss movement in her index finger, middle finger and the ring finger. It’s been 1yr+ and continues to get worse. The EMG says no chance of nerve recovery. But not sure why it is getting worse and no one can identify a root cause. No sudden injury or anything. Should she see a different specialists outside a hand one? Anyone have ideas?
