It was frustrating as my attention span became noticing impaired and I had to write down information from emails or assignments on a memo pad because of impairments in attention span and concentration. In response to the panic, I started taking cdp choline and ginkgo to boost memory and concentration levels.

Maybe it's just wishful thinking but I am hoping and praying that through prolonged abstinence that the cognitive impairements can be recovered or somewhat improved. Is there any medical treatment to aide in the recovery process? Will impairments improve after time? I need answers!
Avatar m tn I agree with that. Exercise was my go-to to keep my life in check, but I injured myself in the gym this semester (more than once - one lead to the other) and am consequently have/will be sitting out for awhile. Which is amplifying my anxiety/depression. boo.

The medication (methimazole) is helping my thyroidism but doesn't seem to be doing anything to restrore my memory and concentration. I used to study for an exam and be able to memorize 3 to 4 pages word for word in an hour. Now I can't even focus long enough to study for an hour because my attention span is gone.
Avatar n tn ssris aren't for that problem. They're for depression and anxiety. If those conditions are the root of your concentration problem, they might help, but if it isn't, they won't. Often medications causes memory and concentration problems, as sometimes does going off them. So nobody can tell you if it's working for that since many of us on here complain of the meds causing that. Only time will tell whether a med works or not, but it's important to take the proper med.

Avatar f tn Hi, I too have had this issue pre and post op, and find it is more the short term memory that is the problem....when I was still working, I made a list of things I had to do at work on Monday's and put a time table that they had to be done, and did so for each day of the week, I also had my cheat sheets for the diff computer spreadsheets so I had a reference and by using it this helped my memory, so for things that have to be done daily a check list out in plain view is helpful....

Avatar f tn U know it sounds to me like ur brain is very low in Omega 3. Omega 3 is a good fat that can be found in large amounts in oily fish such as Mackeral... Omega 3 is scientifically known to improve concentration, lower anxiety and in effect 'wake the brain up'.

Also, how many drugs have they tried you on? Because this one might not be working. My psychiatrist has been tinkering away with my drugs for over a year now and it's still not quite right. I've tried six, in several combinations.

The problems have not gone away much, I would say only 50% better and it is still bad. I went to an Emory psychiatrist but they have just put me on Seroquel as of yesterday. I have stopped taking that today and while I was on it I felt very numb and could not feel emotions and I was very drowsy.

Anxiety in and of itself can cause concentration problems because of the way it effects the brain; it actually blocks your short term memory from picking up signals. It cannot be fixed with more meds, but you might notice some alleviation when you stop certain meds. You have to ask yourself which is the lesser of two evils. I decided memory loss and inability to concentrate are the lesser of my problems.
