Common Questions and Answers about Impact concussion management

concussion

Avatar f tn A month ago I was in a bad car accident. My car flipped and I hit my head going unconscious. So obviously I had a concussion. I'm healing and have been trying to decide which exercise would be the best? I've belonged to a gym since Oct. but am just concerned to start exercising again. My dr says I need to treat myself as if I have a concussion for at least a year, or while symptoms last. I get headaches, dizziness, sometimes very mild forgetfulness.
Avatar f tn Gymnast, you, your teammates, and your coaches may benefit from a tool called imPACT, which was created specifically for your question. The impact website is impacttest and the Concussion Resource Center has great information. Take good care.
Avatar f tn Do you think he had a concussion/minor traumatic brain damage? Can this kind of impact be enough to cause concussion? Thanks for reading!
Avatar m tn Is the diagnosis similar between a concussion and intoxication? If so, in what ways? i.e., with the pupils, when doctor shines light in eyes, motor skills, etc. In what ways are they different? What if you have/are both at the same time? Can they be possibly confused or synonymous?
Avatar n tn I have had patients with this condition. However, there is no specific treatment for post-concussion syndrome. Management usually is directed at individual symptoms. This is why it is recommended that you have regular follow-ups for proper management of your symptoms. Take care and best regards.
Avatar f tn Immediately I had a headache, I saw halos around lights, and I felt like I was in a dream state. I went to a concussion specialist who performed an impact test on me and diagnosed me with a concussion. A couple weeks later I got cleared but soon after I started experiencing severe sensitivity to light and my vision seemed to worsen. I had been given glasses to use while driving for distance and now I have to wear them all the time or I can’t see.
Avatar n tn Hello, Thank you for your question. After concussion or impact such kind of symptoms like loss of smell or taste and other symptoms may be common due to extent of damaged part of brain and may remain symptomatic or progress in future. Although any sure success cure can not be assured in such cases, but symptomatic relief or it may decrease with period of time, physiotherapy, avoiding any triggering factors and life style modification help you in certain extent.
Avatar f tn I can say this, as a person who has had multiple, multiple, multiple concussions, that sex definitely has an impact on concussion symptoms and recovery. Regarding masturbation, this I can not for certain, but if it involves somewhat strenuous movement to the head, then yes, it could affect and could exacerbate symptoms. I don't masturbate, but I have had, sex during concussion recovery and my symptoms always increase afterward, even if the sex is not strenuous.

Avatar f tn It is abundantly clear that in some cases concussions may result in seizures. That is not a "theory". It is a medical fact. It doesn't require "discussion". But not all concussions result in a seizure. There can be varying degrees of damage depending on the severity off the blow, where the impact takes place, and from resultant swelling, and if there is a delay in seeking medical attention. A "concussion" is not a "concussion".
Avatar f tn I play softball in college and about 3 weeks ago i was hit in the head with a bat right above my left ear. My coach gave me a concussion test and my head was hurting pretty bad throughout the day. The next day it wasnt bothering me too bad so I didnt go to the doctor to see if i did have a concussion. Well ever since that weekend, i have pressure headaches on the right side of my head.
Avatar m tn Alright so let me start off by saying i know how ridiculous this sounds but I need to be sure. Im 18.Today was a normal morning, I went to the my couch and kinda jumped down into it. I landed on my butt with my body toward the tv. when i landed though i felt a sort of "thump" on the top of my head when i landed almost as if my brain hit the top of my skull. I wouldn't say I have a headache like getting your bell rung, but lets just say i felt a lot better before I sat down.
1072295 tn?1255449536 I had a mild traumatic brain injury and has most of the symptoms you have plus more. Mine happened more than a year ago. I have been to many specialists in this area and did not get much help. Some said it is a post concussion syndrome, meniere's syndrome etc., and each one gave a different syndrome. all I can say is I have post concussion syndrome/tbi for sure and probably you have that too.
Avatar f tn Stroke is unlikely in this situation if it was caused by the impact; however, a TBI/concussion cannot be ruled out. It sounds like there may be swelling as a result of the impact, and if pinching of the optic nerve is occurring, then you will have issues with vision. If they didn't check the pupil of that eye for dialation/reaction to light between both eyes, look elsewhere. Rembember - the only thing between the inside of your skull and brain is fluid surrounding it.
4066053 tn?1353717145 However yes, the base of the skull is most sensitive and a hit in this area can cause more trauma than in other areas. Also a direct impact on the top of the head can be really injurious. Healing from concussion is a very unpredictable. A small injury may take time to heal where as a bigger injury may heal faster. Take care!
Avatar n tn “The brain is surrounded by cerebrospinal fluid, one of the functions of which is to protect it from light trauma, but more severe impacts or the forces associated with rapid acceleration and deceleration may not be absorbed by this cushion.
Avatar f tn My 12 year old son, Ben, suffered a concussion in April 2008 when he was hit with a line drive hardball in his left eye while playing baseball. The impact of the ball caused the concussion, and the shape of his pupil is now oval. I took him to a pediatric opthamologist who did a thorough exam. He said there is no lasting damage other than the shape of the pupil, but he needed glasses.
Avatar f tn Ok so I have had close to the whole chart in symptoms of a concussion 7 months post impact. I was recovering at a fairly normal pace until about 3/4 weeks into recovery when pain worse than when I had the initial headache from trauma. Keep in mind at that point I was a healthy 15 year old boy that was extremely active. Well anyway the pain that had returned from nowhere was increasing gradually for about one and a half months until the pain was so intense I had to go to the ER at 1am.
16948797 tn?1452582673 t notice it right away, a sizable bump appeared ranging to a size of an inch in circumference and roughly a centimeter outward. Is it normal for the bump to become numb by an impact to the nerves of the head? (First thing I did was try to rest since Ice wasn't available at the time, and when I woke up about couple hours later..
Avatar f tn I was holding my puppy in the backyard then he jumped off and landed on his back and may have hit his head, he whimpered a little bit on impact but after that he was running okay and was a little bit less active than before the fall.
Avatar m tn m, of course, panicky because of the possibility of a mild concussion and its possible side effects, along with th ehelp of alcohol and poor sleep the first days of the injury -while I should be taking care to rest and all. I feel just a weight sensation and mild pain that comes and goes around the vicinity of the impact, maybe a bit of pain on the opposite side sometimes, but I don't even need acetaminophen. The impact was on the upper-back let side of the head. Could I have a problem?
Avatar f tn Hi, I had a concussion about 3 wks ago and after that I have had a tingling sensation in my feet. I want to know if this is expected and what can be done to resolve this. As a a positive side effect, I have also noticed that things seem to be moving in slow motion some times. In other words, I see things much quicker and my reflexes have improved. Is this normal ?
Avatar m tn About two months ago I suffered an injury to my left eye and the fore head area of my head. Two weeks later the ER Doctor told me I have post concussion syndrome, the CT scan was normal, however I still feel dizzy, lazy, depressed, my ears ring non stop and after I eat I feel like passing out. My primary care doctor said to give it about 90 days to a year. Can you tell me how much more should I wait before I see a neurologist.
Avatar m tn I’m a 19 year old 5’11 140 pound Caucasian male with post concussion syndrome from a life of contact sports and also an anxiety disorder Well this is likely the end of my life, something truly tragic has happened. Was walking down the street, bent down to throw something in the trash, lifted my body back up and smashed my head under a street sign. It made a huge sound and a woman passing by even said a loud ‘oof’ Which basically confirms the severity of the impact.
Avatar n tn Is there anybody that can give me any advice on how to keep my blood sugar down I am a T1 diabetic I been diagnosed at 1 years old and I have had poor management for about 7 years
Avatar f tn Last friday I suffered a concussion as a result of being stupid (falling over when I went to plop into bed and hit the wall). I hit the top of my head on the wall and hard! I did not pass out however. My doctor said I have a concussion. Anyway, a few years back I had a sub occiptial decompression laminectomy c1 as a result of Arnold Chiari Malformation.
Avatar m tn Another symptom was a mild headache when I was tired but I do not know whether this can be attributed to the hit or to me feeling overly anxious over a possible concussion. Do you think a concussion is a possibility? Any feedback would be very welcome!
