s experience with the imitrex has been - good or bad - and if they have any other tips of things I can try (non-medicinal) to reduce the pain, etc., of the migraines. Fortunately, (knock on wood), I haven't had a migraine since I saw my doc on thursday, so I haven't tried the imitrex yet. I'm always leary/hesitant about ANY new medication, so would definitely appreciate any advice about this med that anyone might have. Thanks so much!

I've had what the doctors call cluster migraines for about 15 years. I've been many times to the doctor, although when I was younger they said there was no pills for this type of thing. i called y dr several times to let them know and she switched me to prisqu (some sis to prozac) b/c she thought it might be b/c prozac...after getting worse and ER trip and worse docs kept blowing me off as i was just exasterbating my symtoms of side effects....i finally goggled my meds on drug interactions and all these were MAJOR drug interactions causing something called serotonin syndrome or serotonin toxity...this can be fatal and i felt like i was going to die...

Is it safe to take Lexapro and Imitrex? There is a warning on the package against this but I thought I would ask the professionals first.

No, if it is the branded version of Imitrex with no additional additives. There could be some other variants that include NSAIDS but you should double check with your Doctor as to which version was prescribed. I agree Maxalt seems to be the better drug especially the MLT version as it gets into the blood stream much quicker.

I find Ibupropin helps a lot if the Imitrex doesn't work or vice versa. Then I got vertigo in my 40's and I would just fall down. It is due to the migraine not the inner ear. I have become hypothyroid too. They now have me on Topamax which took away my migraine headaches but not the auras and I don't have vertigo anymore either. I also take a half of a 25mg of amitriptilyne still too. They had tried cyproheptadine but that didn't work either.

m on 10mg of Prozac and have noticed some weight gain within the past 2 months or so and my doctor has suggested I start taking Wellbutrin along with the Prozac but my biggest concern is having panic attacks. I suffer from panic disorder w/ agoraphobia and the Prozac has been helping but I'm afraid that adding on the Wellbutrin may counteract that. (I know it is considered a stimulant for a lot of people - hence the usual weight loss.

I am not a doctor. But my neurologist prescribed both 10 mg of Amitriptyline and Imitrex. So I think it should be fine. You can ask a pharmacist or your doctor to make sure. But I am on both of those plus Trokendi XR and Clonazepam.

what is the difference between the imitrex injections and pills? Which is more effective and prescribed more?

Because I think getting Imitrex injections at the hospital is either the same thing or probably very similar to a prescription for Imitrex Injection, although I guess the difference is that by the time you get to the hospital it has already been a very long time so it might not work as well... but still, experiences with Imitrex injections at the hospital would be good to know about too. Hello, hope this finds you feeling better. Taking too much Imitrex can cause SERIOUS medical, long term problems with your cadiovascular system just for starters. You can also get very painful rebound headaches from taking too much medicine in a short period of time. In lieu of medication, try massage therapy. For the pain, sometimes Peppermint Essential Oil can help.

I have been suffering from migranes for 25 years now and have been using Imitrex successfully to relieve the attacks (usually several times a monthy, primarily around the time of my menstrual period). in the past year, i have been suffering EVERY day (for weeks now) and have had to take IMITREX every day to relieve the pain.

My psychiatrist has just added Zyprexa to take with Prozac as the Prozac is not working like it used to work.I'm worried about the weight gain with Zyprexa, is there something else that could be used with the Prozac instead? Also until now I've also been taking 1 mg. Ativan in the morning and 1 mg Ativan before bed. Is it safe to use Ativan with the Zyprexa?

I am pretty loyal to Imitrex. But always at max dose of 200mg. There is a new drug from makers of Imitrex called Trixamet. It is Imitrex plus an NSAID. I got a sample from my doc. I loved it. Trixamet is supposed to be covered by any insurance that takes Imitrex, but mine doesn't cover it. Maybe yours will. Hope I helped.

My neurologist wants me to discontinue Imitrex due to the side effects associated with it at my age as well as the overuse. I don't know what to do anymore. Headaches are completely ruining my life. At least with the Imitrex I can somewhat function. Help!

The palpitations started getting worse, but I had now talked myself into having a fear of imitrex (that it would kill me). One night to avoid the ER with a terrible migraine I broke down and took the imitrex shot. Within seconds the palpitations stopped, and did not pick back up again for about 3 days. That was the last time I had taken imitrex and it's been 3 full months now with no migraine medications, only Advil. Thankfully I started Cranio Sacral which reduced the migraines.

Yes, don't use the Sumitriptan or the Naproxen or any NSAIDs before surgery. If the Naproxen wasn't on the list, it should be, because it's an NSAID. With the Imitrex, it would be better to be safe than sorry. I'm not entirely sure, but it seems like it would be a safer bet to struggle through those migraines for the next couple of weeks. I do know for sure with the Naproxen, because it's an NSAID.

I was 45 also when my family practice dr. diaagnoised me with a pseudotumor cerebri. I was having migranes daily and head was so foggy I got to where I could not function. Request a MRI/MRA to rule out a tumor or vessel disorder. If this comes back normal then ask if it could be a pseudotumor cerebri . This use to be known as intercranial hypertension. Usually a woman of chidbearing age is suspected of this not someone of 45. I still have migranes but nothing like I did.

I have taken Imitrex for some time (years) and I have never had a problem with it being addictive (as mentioned above, it's non-narcotic) nor have I had rebounds. As was also suggested, the minimal quantity usually prescribed generally precludes this from happening. However my PCP did warn me of rebound migraines if, as also mentioned, one took too many (by whatever means). Imitrex has been a tremendous source of relief for my intense migraines; for the milder ones I take ibuprofen.

5 like 2 weeks ago for a impacted wisdom tooth that I cant get out until October 7th (go figure). Of course I have a fear of taking any new medications unless its my prozac 30 mg. I have been off my prozac for 1 and 1/2 and was doing pretty good until i started taking the lortab. But know when i take the lortab i have really bad anxiety and 2 days ago i had a panick attack which freaked me and my husband both out.

Hello. I've been suffering from sever migraines for years but recently they have gotten worse.. For a week now I've had a constant pain. Ive tried imitrex and that hadn't help. I took a pain med n it help for a little while. But the pain is back ten fold. Is that because of the pain med.? Any suggestions on migraine medications?
