Imitrex vs treximet

Common Questions and Answers about Imitrex vs treximet

imitrex

635402 tn?1270162477 The new drug is to be called TREXIMET and according to the makers, was to be a vast improvement over Imitrex. Like Imitrex, it is made to be taken at the onset of a migraine, but is supposed to work faster and better to reduce migraine pain. GSK has spent several years and millions of dollars researching and "pre-marketing" Treximet in anticipation of FDA approval and product launch. So what's the deal? Is this really better than Imitrex alone?
Avatar f tn Maxalt, Axert, imitrex, Treximet, and Frova. Let me know if you have other questions.
Avatar n tn I have chronic pancreatitis with pseudocysts & calcification, I also have an enlarged pancreatic duct and history of bile duct sclerosis. I have systemic sclerosis and have chronic gastric ulcers (no H-pyloric) and food bezoars for 10 years. I am supposed to be on liquid diet (I am not) and have gastroparesis and have gained 40 pounds in past two years. I have hypothyroidism for 33 years and empty sella syndrome.
768044 tn?1294223436 In the comments below, let us know if your triptan is a tablet, an orally disintegrating tablet, a nasal spray or an injection, especially if the triptan is Imitrex, Zomig or Maxalt (as these medications come in multiple delivery methods). Feel free to discuss how satisfied you are with your current triptan medication and if you have any specific complaints, compliments or comments about the treatment.
2017859 tn?1331098401 I am a 25 year old female with chronic migraines. I am on preventive medication for my migraines but I still get several migraines a week. Since I was diagnosed in 2008, I have used many different abortive medications for when I get a migraine. It seems almost as if my body either builds up a tolerance to these medications, or my migraines grow in severity and become to powerful for the medication. It could also be a combination of both.
Avatar f tn I have had a migraine all day today. The pain is awful. I've never heard of alkaline water! I'll try it. I can't take any type of migraine meds such as imitrex Maxalt treximet etc because of the anxiety meds I'm on. They interact. So we are trying amitriptyline at night. Hopefully it helps! I still feel like I want to give up. Like I'll never have the energy and upbeat feelings I did when I had the pills. I'm sad all the time, moody, tired and grumpy.
Avatar f tn what medicine have you tired? I find my Treximet to be pretty effective. When its not I have an Imitrex to shot to use.
Avatar m tn I am so glad that you asked about imitrex! I take a triptan, like imitrex, and personally I think that triptans are the best treatment for acute migraines, and they are also the most prescribed medication for acute migraines.
Avatar f tn I don't have much of a question, but wanted to introduce myself. I've periodically had migraines throughout my life, but they were never very often. However, that changed since I've been diagnosed with lupus and fibromyalgia (as well as other chronic pain issues). Especially since the fibro was discovered (about 15 years ago), my migraines have increased in frequency. The week before last, I had 3 in that week alone.
Avatar n tn t get imitrex tablets, get the imitrex or generic nasal spray or imitrex or generic injection OR treximex tablets but NOT imitrex tablets. - Zolmitriptan. brand name Zomig. this is what i use. (although i have used all of them at some point) don't get the tablets... like imitrex, the tablets don't work. But, the nasal spray DOES work incredibly well and this is what is usually prescribed anyway. - Almotriptan. brand name Axert. a very powerful triptan tablet.
Avatar f tn They changed me to Imitrex instead of the Maltax and added Amitriptyline at night. Still...no relief. So far I have had an MRI and an MRA but nothing showed up that would explain the headaches. About three days ago I started getting really bad neck pains that gradually would get worse throughout the day (just like my headaches / migraines). Last night it was the right side, from my temple to my jaw and down to the base of my skull and tonight it's the left side.
Avatar n tn t take away the migraine but if I took one early enough, it might make it possible for me to go a bit longer before taking an Imitrex, thereby making the expensive Imitrex last longer. But, like you, I started taking them too often. Luckily, I have a doctor who does not like to prescribe pain pills so he shut me down. Then my new doctor refuses to prescribe them. So I haven't taken them for years. I am so sorry that you have this problem. Migraines are not something I would wish on anyone.
Avatar m tn I also was taking Maxalt and/or Imitrex at the time. Hydromorphone sends me into anaphalaxis shock within 5 minutes even at the smallest of dosages.... i'm really concerned as to why this has showed up on my urine test...and how?!?!?!?
Avatar m tn Its just these damn headaches that progress into nauseating migraines! Triptans. Frova, Zomig, Imitrex, Treximet.............no relief. That is how the vicious cycle started, nothing other than pain relievers worked. Fear not, that path of travel is closed! Which reminds me, I need to clear my closet of all the anti-psychotics that I have tried as well. I've also taken beta-blockers, calcium blockers blah blah blah. This is an ongoing struggle.
Avatar m tn So, what other options are there. I have tried Treximet and Relpax…..they are non-narcotic/barbiturate/opiate, but they are MAJOR expensive…and only take the edge off. p.s. I did a very fun thing today. I went through my house and found all other prescription meds that I don’t want/need or that I fear will be addictive. I put them in a small box and had a little fire in my back yard. Sounds kind of weird, but it was very therapeutic for me!
341655 tn?1240368839 what is the difference between the imitrex injections and pills? Which is more effective and prescribed more?
1046692 tn?1255391835 Is it safe to take Lexapro and Imitrex? There is a warning on the package against this but I thought I would ask the professionals first.
1056589 tn?1273747102 If you suffer from some other types of medical conditions too, Imitrex should not be taken. Do not take Imitrex if you have underlying cardiovascular diseases, if you have uncontrolled hypertension, if you are taking MAO-A antidepressants or and do not take Imitrex if you have severe hepatic impairment.
Avatar f tn does either imitrex or maxalt contain caffeine? I was taking Maxalt for migraines and it worked great! Now my insurance has decided I need to try Imitrex before they will approve coverage for the Maxalt. The Imitrex took about 2 hours to have any effect, but eventually my headache subsided. Since then I have had recurring headaches for 4 days.
Avatar f tn What type of headaches did the doctors say you had? This sounds like you might be suffering from "cluster headaches". Cluster headaches are the worst pain that exists pretty much... so, your description of being shot makes me think of that. Also, they are on one side of the head, and usually around the eye. So... the starting point of your headache sounds like it is in the right place for a cluster headache. Also, them waking you up in the night sounds like cluster headaches too.
Avatar f tn so there is no reason to become an addict or to crave the medication, but ones body will still become highly dependent on the medication to a point that if you take the body off the medication abruptly you can cause seizures and even death... Imitrex is NOT like that!! Imitrex does not cause any sort of high or euphoria so you cannot become addicted to it, you will not "crave" it when you are not in pain...
Avatar f tn I am pretty loyal to Imitrex. But always at max dose of 200mg. There is a new drug from makers of Imitrex called Trixamet. It is Imitrex plus an NSAID. I got a sample from my doc. I loved it. Trixamet is supposed to be covered by any insurance that takes Imitrex, but mine doesn't cover it. Maybe yours will. Hope I helped.
