imitrex

Avatar f tn I am so sorry for what you have been going through. I started having migraines when I was 23. They couldn't diagnose me for 8 years because I had no migraine and had vomiting all night (only at night) and abdominal pain. The neurologist did an electroencephalogram and found it was a migraine. I was put on doxepin for a year and that helped but then it didn't work so they finally put me on Klonopin and it went away but then in my 30's it changed to severe migraine and auras.
Avatar m tn I am so glad that you asked about imitrex! I take a triptan, like imitrex, and personally I think that triptans are the best treatment for acute migraines, and they are also the most prescribed medication for acute migraines.
Avatar f tn I don't have much of a question, but wanted to introduce myself. I've periodically had migraines throughout my life, but they were never very often. However, that changed since I've been diagnosed with lupus and fibromyalgia (as well as other chronic pain issues). Especially since the fibro was discovered (about 15 years ago), my migraines have increased in frequency. The week before last, I had 3 in that week alone.
Avatar f tn But the symptoms will be enough. They can try imitrex or another sumatriptan type pill that will stop the migraines. It also may help with the dizziness and some of your other problems. I have a migraine variant. I started throwing up only at night usually after excitement or stress and couldn't stop and got abdominal pain and had to go to the ER so they could rehydrate me and give me something to stop the vomiting. I had no migraines back then. I had all the scans, blood tests etc.
Avatar n tn it could be migraines because that is kind of the natural progression after vertigo. And on the last part that you said there are many different kinds of vertigo some are related to the wheatear and some have other very serious causes i know that statement sounds a little scary but it the reality but every person is different. i was just referred to a ear nose and throat doc so maybe that can help even though I don’t see how.
198419 tn?1360242356 I was put on meclizine for the first instance of vertigo in July, though it mostly made me sleepy. In October, we tried it again, with the same effect, so they switched me to Xanax (yeah, I can still see the surprise in the pharmacist's face), and it did the same thing, only worse. Then came scopolamine patches, with minimal effect there, either, but possibly a shade better than those other two.
Avatar f tn t work for my vertigo. I am now on Topamax which helped with my migraine variant. I was getting double vision, auras, vertigo, migraine headaches, and lights that skip across my vision. most of this is gone. I also take Imitrex or one of the triptan drugs if the migraine comes on. If that doesn't work a couple of Ibupropin.
1415174 tn?1453243103 I have heard many people say it works great on migraine prevention and all the effects such as aura and vertigo. If the vertigo or dizzyness is due to migraine. I would love to hear your story. I'll try to go on your webpage if it is there. Lightheadedness can be from low blood pressure too as I get that sometimes too. Have you seen a migraine specialist? Are you on a daily drug for migraines or the lightheadedness? If not you may want to try something.
Avatar n tn I have the same thing migraine headaches and lights that fly across my vision. The neurologist said it was migraine related visuals like an aura. Have you been tested for migraines? I would see a neurologist first and they can do an electroencephalogram to see the brain waves and if they have the pattern of a migraine they can give you meds for this. But I would also see an opthamologist to rule out that it isn't retinal related.
1100598 tn?1413127426 one every month or so with the aura, which was treated with Imitrex. After a concussion last summer, I started getting them almost daily, where I would get blurry vision, tremors in my hands, nausea, difficulty speaking, pain in the left temple, and falling. My doctor started me on Topamax, 100mg, which has helped with the symptoms, although I still fall occassionally. She was able to rule out epilepsy. I was wondering if anyone else has these symptoms when they have a migraine?
Avatar f tn s that help me are using an ice pack at the base of my head and neck. I am also taking topamax though my body took a long time to adjust to. Imitrex as been a real blessing lately. And I take IBU everyday along with the topamax. The imitrex is only to be used on my extremely bad days. I also find that destressing each day with a long hot bubble bath using lavender and candle light is very helpful. I hope you can use some of my tips.
341655 tn?1240368839 what is the difference between the imitrex injections and pills? Which is more effective and prescribed more?
1046692 tn?1255391835 Is it safe to take Lexapro and Imitrex? There is a warning on the package against this but I thought I would ask the professionals first.
1056589 tn?1273747102 If you suffer from some other types of medical conditions too, Imitrex should not be taken. Do not take Imitrex if you have underlying cardiovascular diseases, if you have uncontrolled hypertension, if you are taking MAO-A antidepressants or and do not take Imitrex if you have severe hepatic impairment.
489786 tn?1255692879 ve taken many of the triptans and had good luck with all except Imitrex (got terrible rebound headaches!!!). Excedrin migraine, if I take it right away, works OK now that I take the topamax daily. I hope you get some relief soon.
705969 tn?1229491814 ve had migraines 3-4 times a week ever since I can remember. I am on Imitrex now for the occasional migraines, and I was on Topamax, but I stopped taking it due to some financial troubles. Anyways, I have experienced over the past few months some balance problems. Now, this is not dizziness, my vision doesn't swim or anything. I'll just be walking along, and suddenly I'm nearly falling over, totally aware of the situation but not in control of what's going on.
Avatar f tn s I got migriane headaches and aura, sometimes aura only or both or just migraine. So I was put on Imitrex. This has helped a lot with the pain. But you can't take it more than twice a week or you get rebound migraine. This year I have started to get a lot of visuals, double vision, vertigo that comes on suddenly and I fall, part of my vision was black out for about 30 seconds and flying yellow lights in addition to the migraine headaches.
Avatar f tn does either imitrex or maxalt contain caffeine? I was taking Maxalt for migraines and it worked great! Now my insurance has decided I need to try Imitrex before they will approve coverage for the Maxalt. The Imitrex took about 2 hours to have any effect, but eventually my headache subsided. Since then I have had recurring headaches for 4 days.
Avatar m tn I had a mild traumatic brain in May 2009 and the Post Concussion Syndrome followed. I have had dull headaches, dizziness (not vertigo), fatigue etc., all along. Been to all the specialists, tried many meds, therapies etc., with not much success. TBI headaches are difficult to treat. But there are lots migraine medication and even shots which seems to be working good for some head injured sufferers. (Imitrex, intravenous magnesium etc.
Avatar m tn Hi and so very sorry you are having all this trouble. I have a migraine variant that in my 20's just gave me vomiting and no headache. It only came on at night. They gave me Klonopin and I haven' t had that since. But I don't recommend Klonopin for the vertigo. So, then I started getting the migraine headaches and aura in my 30's and took Imitrex and that worked some for the migraine headaches. Only this last year and a half I started getting double vision then severe vertigo.
Avatar n tn I also developed Migraines about 10 years ago and the solution was to try a parade of instant remedies (Imitrex, Relpax, etd.) of which NONE worked. 2 years ago I caught Viral Meningitis and had ridiculous headaches, so was put first on Elavil (didn't help) and then on Topamax (somewhat helped). Shortly thereafter, my GP put me on year-round birth control thinking perhaps my hormones were causing my headaches. That seemed to help a little bit. Fast forward to October 2008.
Avatar f tn so there is no reason to become an addict or to crave the medication, but ones body will still become highly dependent on the medication to a point that if you take the body off the medication abruptly you can cause seizures and even death... Imitrex is NOT like that!! Imitrex does not cause any sort of high or euphoria so you cannot become addicted to it, you will not "crave" it when you are not in pain...

Avatar f tn I am pretty loyal to Imitrex. But always at max dose of 200mg. There is a new drug from makers of Imitrex called Trixamet. It is Imitrex plus an NSAID. I got a sample from my doc. I loved it. Trixamet is supposed to be covered by any insurance that takes Imitrex, but mine doesn't cover it. Maybe yours will. Hope I helped.
518798 tn?1295212279 Good Morning guys! I woke up with another migraine this morning. This is the 3rd one this month. I usually have about 2 in a year, but never this close together and this often. I have been taking 1 imitrex when I have a headache. My question is, "Is Imitrex habit-forming?" I have researched all the websites, but they also say that ultram isn't habit forming. I was just wanting some info from someone who has taken it.
Avatar f tn Hello. I've been suffering from sever migraines for years but recently they have gotten worse.. For a week now I've had a constant pain. Ive tried imitrex and that hadn't help. I took a pain med n it help for a little while. But the pain is back ten fold. Is that because of the pain med.? Any suggestions on migraine medications?
Avatar f tn I used to get so many migraines and I was taking imitrex injections. When I moved the migraines got worse from stress and I started taking the imitrex daily, sometimes even multiple times a day. After about 3 months of this I started getting heart palpitations. They got so bad that I stopped taking my imitrex (cold turkey) on the whim that it was causing them. The palpitations started getting worse, but I had now talked myself into having a fear of imitrex (that it would kill me).
Avatar f tn They did a CT-Scan and all came back ok so did my heart monitor (I feel like the blood from my brain drains) when I have the headache and they said I have Vertigo. I tried Imitrex/shot, OTC, Topomax, Ativan..ect and now have me on Valium. I have had migraines for years and was able to take 2 Aleve and it will go away. Now I cant even function on a day to day been out of work since this started.
