The doctors on this forum claim that vasoconstrictor overuse cannot cause permanent damage, yet the drug cuts off blood flow to certain parts of the eye. Does this mean that cutting off blood flow to certain parts of the eye cannot cause permanent damage?

I am so glad that you asked about imitrex! I take a triptan, like imitrex, and personally I think that triptans are the best treatment for acute migraines, and they are also the most prescribed medication for acute migraines.

I don't have much of a question, but wanted to introduce myself. I've periodically had migraines throughout my life, but they were never very often. However, that changed since I've been diagnosed with lupus and fibromyalgia (as well as other chronic pain issues). does either imitrex or maxalt contain caffeine? I was taking Maxalt for migraines and it worked great! Now my insurance has decided I need to try Imitrex before they will approve coverage for the Maxalt. The Imitrex took about 2 hours to have any effect, but eventually my headache subsided. Since then I have had recurring headaches for 4 days.

so there is no reason to become an addict or to crave the medication, but ones body will still become highly dependent on the medication to a point that if you take the body off the medication abruptly you can cause seizures and even death... Imitrex is NOT like that!! Imitrex does not cause any sort of high or euphoria so you cannot become addicted to it, you will not "crave" it when you are not in pain...

I am pretty loyal to Imitrex. But always at max dose of 200mg. There is a new drug from makers of Imitrex called Trixamet. It is Imitrex plus an NSAID. I got a sample from my doc. I loved it. Trixamet is supposed to be covered by any insurance that takes Imitrex, but mine doesn't cover it. Maybe yours will. Hope I helped.

I have been taking 1 imitrex when I have a headache. My question is, "Is Imitrex habit-forming?" I have researched all the websites, but they also say that ultram isn't habit forming. Hello. I've been suffering from sever migraines for years but recently they have gotten worse.. For a week now I've had a constant pain. Ive tried imitrex and that hadn't help. I took a pain med n it help for a little while. But the pain is back ten fold. Is that because of the pain med.? Any suggestions on migraine medications?

I used to get so many migraines and I was taking imitrex injections. When I moved the migraines got worse from stress and I started taking the imitrex daily, sometimes even multiple times a day. After about 3 months of this I started getting heart palpitations. They got so bad that I stopped taking my imitrex (cold turkey) on the whim that it was causing them. The palpitations started getting worse, but I had now talked myself into having a fear of imitrex (that it would kill me).

This medicaion prohibits the kidneys fro producing angiotension. Angiotension is hormone that suppresses as a vasoconstrictor. Or there can be ARB and that lowers blood pressure by binding angiotensin to a receptor. Either can be effective and the combination of the two can be an option as well. What meds have you tried.

Was using OTC Naphcon-A for just under a month to help my eyes get better, until I was doing some research today (because I realized nothing was really getting better) and found out that the reason it worked so well was that it contained a vasoconstrictor, which apparently should never be used for more than 10 days (despite the fact that the box *literally* said "can be used up to 4 times every day"... very misleading).

The new drug is to be called TREXIMET and according to the makers, was to be a vast improvement over Imitrex. Like Imitrex, it is made to be taken at the onset of a migraine, but is supposed to work faster and better to reduce migraine pain. Well, cocaine can be a vasoconstrictor and erections basically involve blood flow. So, there is actually science to affecting your penis and genital health. Cocaine is a nasty drug. Yes, it can affect your penis health permanently. I don't know if one month of heavy use would do this. But if I were you, I'd just say no to that activity. Get back to life and see if things return to normal. The truth is, the damage to blood vessels from excessive vasoconstriction can be permanent.

I use the Imitrex nasal spray and it gets rid of my headaches with no euphoria or narcotic "haze".

Now around 7 months ago I took a drug called benzedrex which probably nobody knows about because its a really shady thing to take I was just an idiot looking for a high. Anyways its very bad for you Its very cardiotoxic and a really bad vasoconstrictor. After that night I remember the next day I thought I was having a heart attack and had to go to the hospital. I got an ekg and was told everything was fine my heart looked great and they said it was probably stress which I didn't really buy.

Hello, Oh my goodness do I ever have hormone headaches. I even notice vauge head discomfort with ovulation some months. Imitrex tablets and the Imitrex injectable pen have completely helped me. I hardly ever need the pen and can usually get away with only half of an Imitrex tab. Hormone headaches are definitely for real, get yourself some pain relief and enjoy feeling better. Take care.
