Imitrex tolerance

Common Questions and Answers about Imitrex tolerance

imitrex

Avatar f tn does either imitrex or maxalt contain caffeine? I was taking Maxalt for migraines and it worked great! Now my insurance has decided I need to try Imitrex before they will approve coverage for the Maxalt. The Imitrex took about 2 hours to have any effect, but eventually my headache subsided. Since then I have had recurring headaches for 4 days.
Avatar m tn I am so glad that you asked about imitrex! I take a triptan, like imitrex, and personally I think that triptans are the best treatment for acute migraines, and they are also the most prescribed medication for acute migraines.
Avatar f tn I don't have much of a question, but wanted to introduce myself. I've periodically had migraines throughout my life, but they were never very often. However, that changed since I've been diagnosed with lupus and fibromyalgia (as well as other chronic pain issues). Especially since the fibro was discovered (about 15 years ago), my migraines have increased in frequency. The week before last, I had 3 in that week alone.
Avatar n tn Ive been taking it usually a couple times a week. Last couple times I took it it dindnt work very well. Is there a tolerance build up to viagra? For a man like me who didnt physicaly need it, could it damage my penis and make me impotent? Been taking it for 4 months 2 to 3 times a week.
Avatar f tn I know I have a low pain tolerance. But this pain was here before the pill addiction too, so I know a certain amount is really true and not just head games....but I know those head games too...trust me. I used to justify taking a perc for a flippin paper cut. Has anyone heard of Lanacaine? Lidacaine? (sp) I had injections in my knots a few weeks ago and it helped, didn't cure, but helped....wonder if they have a patch or something....
Avatar f tn It gets better everyday. Have you tried Imitrex? I suffer from killer migraines and it helps me a lot, its otc, cheap and non-narcotic. Give it a try. Just curious, do you still have the Percs? If you do, you should flush them, it's better to stay away from temptation, our mind is always looking for a good excuse. You might think, just one pill won't hurt...it will, trust me on this. Stay strong you are doing great!
341655 tn?1240368839 what is the difference between the imitrex injections and pills? Which is more effective and prescribed more?
1046692 tn?1255391835 Is it safe to take Lexapro and Imitrex? There is a warning on the package against this but I thought I would ask the professionals first.
1056589 tn?1273747102 If you suffer from some other types of medical conditions too, Imitrex should not be taken. Do not take Imitrex if you have underlying cardiovascular diseases, if you have uncontrolled hypertension, if you are taking MAO-A antidepressants or and do not take Imitrex if you have severe hepatic impairment.
Avatar f tn so there is no reason to become an addict or to crave the medication, but ones body will still become highly dependent on the medication to a point that if you take the body off the medication abruptly you can cause seizures and even death... Imitrex is NOT like that!! Imitrex does not cause any sort of high or euphoria so you cannot become addicted to it, you will not "crave" it when you are not in pain...
2017859 tn?1331098401 It seems almost as if my body either builds up a tolerance to these medications, or my migraines grow in severity and become to powerful for the medication. It could also be a combination of both. I have been on imetrex, frova, axert, (something begining with an 'r') and treximet. Right now I am on frova, and it is failing to work, what am I going to do?
Avatar f tn My husband was perscribed Cymbalta along with Imitrex and Relpax for migranes. He went into a coma and had to be on a respirator in ICU for 3 days. Is this seretonin syndrome? The doctor claimed it was just a coma brought on by an intese migrane! Weird, Huh?
Avatar f tn I am pretty loyal to Imitrex. But always at max dose of 200mg. There is a new drug from makers of Imitrex called Trixamet. It is Imitrex plus an NSAID. I got a sample from my doc. I loved it. Trixamet is supposed to be covered by any insurance that takes Imitrex, but mine doesn't cover it. Maybe yours will. Hope I helped.
518798 tn?1295212279 Good Morning guys! I woke up with another migraine this morning. This is the 3rd one this month. I usually have about 2 in a year, but never this close together and this often. I have been taking 1 imitrex when I have a headache. My question is, "Is Imitrex habit-forming?" I have researched all the websites, but they also say that ultram isn't habit forming. I was just wanting some info from someone who has taken it.
Avatar f tn Hello. I've been suffering from sever migraines for years but recently they have gotten worse.. For a week now I've had a constant pain. Ive tried imitrex and that hadn't help. I took a pain med n it help for a little while. But the pain is back ten fold. Is that because of the pain med.? Any suggestions on migraine medications?
Avatar f tn I used to get so many migraines and I was taking imitrex injections. When I moved the migraines got worse from stress and I started taking the imitrex daily, sometimes even multiple times a day. After about 3 months of this I started getting heart palpitations. They got so bad that I stopped taking my imitrex (cold turkey) on the whim that it was causing them. The palpitations started getting worse, but I had now talked myself into having a fear of imitrex (that it would kill me).
Avatar f tn examples are maxalt-MLT, zomig-ZMT, zomig nasal spray, imitrex or imitrex nasal spray. But, only your doctor can prescribe these or say if they are actually appropriate for you and your headache (not everyone can take them).
Avatar m tn What i have found in the past was a medication called Imitrex. It is non-addictive and for me worked wonders. What it does is open the blood vessels in your head to let more blood flow. Most causes of migrains are due to blood vessels becoming restricted and the Imitrex opens those vessels letting the blood flow easily. It is worth a try. It should be an easy prescription to obtain since it is not a controlled substance.
1569579 tn?1299187685 Under the treatments for migraines why isn't Imitrex or Fioranal listed?
Avatar f tn I am having trouble determining whether my migraine medication, Imitrex, is one them. Sumitriptan and naproxen are not on the list, but since this drug narrows blood vessels, I wonder if it's best not to take it before surgery.
1882524 tn?1320721345 One dr after another has dropped me once they realize they have tried all they could and nothing was working. Finally a nuerolgist told me that the body builds up a tolerance to imitrex and other preventative meds, and there are times you need to be on morphine to keep out of the ER. At the time I wholeheartedly agreed because I remember that day I was about to go the ER after the dr. visit.
Avatar n tn I nee help. My mom is 45 and she has terrible headaches everyday. She takes Imitrex. She takes it everyday. She had bad headaches since 10 years ago, but now it's everyday that she has one. It's been like that for a month? What is wrong with her? I hope it's not some kind of tumor. Would migraine pill work for headache caused by tumor?
635402 tn?1270162477 The new drug is to be called TREXIMET and according to the makers, was to be a vast improvement over Imitrex. Like Imitrex, it is made to be taken at the onset of a migraine, but is supposed to work faster and better to reduce migraine pain. GSK has spent several years and millions of dollars researching and "pre-marketing" Treximet in anticipation of FDA approval and product launch. So what's the deal? Is this really better than Imitrex alone?

Anything, yes, anything - that changes your mood, alters your personality, or changes the way you feel, or sense pain - will, can and is addicting.
Avatar n tn I have been put on everything from narcotics (which I refuse and hate) to Beta Blockers. (Which Do help) Currently on Propanol. But my very FIRST and ONLY time using Imitrex Oral Capsule. I took the medication and I was sitting in my reclining chair and in about 15 mins I became paralyzed for 2.5-3 hours. I had no other medications in my system. I DO NOT use drugs or drink alcohol. Only Imitrex. My husband honestly thought I was joking. I could not lift my head.
Avatar n tn I'm not a doctor, but every time I get a migraine, which I've been getting for 16 years, I've noticed that during the most severe migraines, I'm very nauseous and even thrown up...which made my migraine so bad, that I had to got o the hospital for pain meds. The only medicine that got rid of my migraine (and the nausea) was Imitrex. I've even gotten the imitrex shot. Have you tried Imitrex?
Avatar m tn I have been on MS Contin, and Percocet for about 3 years, and over that time I have gotten increases to where I am now which is 300MGs MS Contin and 60MGs percocet. My question is,if I take my meds as directed can I keep my tolerance where it is?Or is there a way to keep it from going up?Maybe taking a little less once in a while? I don't want to go any higher on the dosage, what I am on now makes certain activities difficult as it is.Thanks for any help.
