Avatar f tn I don't have much of a question, but wanted to introduce myself. I've periodically had migraines throughout my life, but they were never very often. However, that changed since I've been diagnosed with lupus and fibromyalgia (as well as other chronic pain issues). Especially since the fibro was discovered (about 15 years ago), my migraines have increased in frequency. The week before last, I had 3 in that week alone.
Avatar f tn I have been suffering from migranes for 25 years now and have been using Imitrex successfully to relieve the attacks (usually several times a monthy, primarily around the time of my menstrual period). in the past year, i have been suffering EVERY day (for weeks now) and have had to take IMITREX every day to relieve the pain.
518798 tn?1295212279 I was wondering if like many other headache and migraine medication. Do you get immune to Imitrex (quits working because you get used to them) I'd greatly appreciate any feedback thanks a bunch . . Jim B.
Avatar f tn Yes, don't use the Sumitriptan or the Naproxen or any NSAIDs before surgery. If the Naproxen wasn't on the list, it should be, because it's an NSAID. With the Imitrex, it would be better to be safe than sorry. I'm not entirely sure, but it seems like it would be a safer bet to struggle through those migraines for the next couple of weeks. I do know for sure with the Naproxen, because it's an NSAID.
Avatar f tn I believe Imigran is the same as Imitrex in the states - I live in Bangkok so we get different brand names here in Thailand. Have any of you had success with this drug? I sure hope it works for me. Also, I need to start keeping a food journal. I think coffee (which I love!) may be a trigger. Splenda and other various forms of aspartame I think might be causing them as well, but not 100% sure just yet.
Avatar f tn I am so sorry for what you have been going through. I started having migraines when I was 23. They couldn't diagnose me for 8 years because I had no migraine and had vomiting all night (only at night) and abdominal pain. The neurologist did an electroencephalogram and found it was a migraine. I was put on doxepin for a year and that helped but then it didn't work so they finally put me on Klonopin and it went away but then in my 30's it changed to severe migraine and auras.
Avatar n tn I will get a migraine headache every once in a blue moon and I take the regular OTC stuff for it. I used to get them everyday in high school (15 years ago) but I found out it was due to TMJ and I started wearing a splint to correct my jaw and after my jaw was corrected, the migraines disappeared. But if you are having them on a daily basis along with rebound headaches (those are the absolute worst I know!), you might want to ask your doctor about Maxalt.
Avatar n tn Taking imitrex daily is likely setting her up for rebound headaches. I didn't take it daily, but experienced rebound headache before after taking imitrex. If she has not had an MRI (or CT scan) of her brain, her doctor should be ordering one to try to rule out brain tumor, aneurysm, or anything else that might cause headaches. You won't know if it's something like that until you test- so please urge her to get the pictures of her brain!
1046692 tn?1255391835 yeah...you should really ask your doctor what they think. it can interact, as was stated above...and it can be a very nasty interaction thats really not worth the risk if there are other alternatives. migraine pain is horrible and so is anxiety, so you're kind of stuck between a rock and a hard place. as far as i know (and i'm certainly not a medical professional)....the interaction between the 2 isn't common.
768044 tn?1294223436 t feel as afraid anymore now that I at least have the Imitrex Injection to try next time I get one of those really scary migraines and even if it doesn't work I still have the hospital as my back up plan but it's just nice to know that I at least have something at home that might work now. Has anyone else here tried Imitrex Injection? How did you find using the injection pen? Was it easy to learn how to use? Did you find it worked better then the other triptans?
Avatar f tn I was taking Maxalt for migraines and it worked great! Now my insurance has decided I need to try Imitrex before they will approve coverage for the Maxalt. The Imitrex took about 2 hours to have any effect, but eventually my headache subsided. Since then I have had recurring headaches for 4 days.
979080 tn?1323433639 I have suffered exploding head syndrome (also known as migraines) for many, many years. I found that Imitrex didn't work and when they were severe would have to go to the hospital and be shot full of demerol and vistaril (an antihistamine that made me sleep). It was not until I could sleep would they go away. That sometimes was several rounds from bounceback migraines and I'd be in the ER for days (happened about 4 - 6 months ago).
341655 tn?1240368839 However an injection will provide quick relief from migraine pain as it reaches faster into the blood stream as compared to pills. Imitrex injection provides relief in about 10 minutes. Injections are usually prescribed in people who want quick relief from rapid onset migraine or suffer from morning migraines. Hope this answers your question.
Avatar f tn I am pretty loyal to Imitrex. But always at max dose of 200mg. There is a new drug from makers of Imitrex called Trixamet. It is Imitrex plus an NSAID. I got a sample from my doc. I loved it. Trixamet is supposed to be covered by any insurance that takes Imitrex, but mine doesn't cover it. Maybe yours will. Hope I helped.
1079216 tn?1258200805 So, now I only take it for non-migraine issues like if I have a fever or something... I am very careful to avoid advil because it caused me to get rebound headaches when I used to take it for my chronic migraines. It is nice to meet you!! Thank you again for joining this group!
Avatar f tn I am 22 years old, female, recently moved out of my parents house to another state. I used to get so many migraines and I was taking imitrex injections. When I moved the migraines got worse from stress and I started taking the imitrex daily, sometimes even multiple times a day. After about 3 months of this I started getting heart palpitations. They got so bad that I stopped taking my imitrex (cold turkey) on the whim that it was causing them.
Avatar f tn Hi There, I am a new member to this forum. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia after two horseback riding accidents in 2005. I also had 2 concussions, whiplash and a neck injury (disc rupture) Before the accidents I was so healthy! I was a Type A person who could basically do anything, anytime. Now, my life is reduced to the confines of my bedroom, and sometimes the kitchen and greatroom. Thank God I have a wonderful husband and supportive friends.
435241 tn?1208575531 I have been having a headache the past 4 days and I am scared to take my Imitrex. Someone please explain this to me. I tried calling my neurologist today but they never returned any of my calls.
Avatar f tn Congratulations on 10 days!!! Today is day 5 for me but I haven't had to go to work yet, I will tomorrow. I am curious to know what anyone say about headaches too because I suffer from migraines which is how I got into my mess, but these ones lately aren't as bad as before but everyday is getting to be a bit much!
1125820 tn?1265284446 Statistically, compared to the other triptans, Imitrex Injection, Zomig Nasal Spray and Maxalt-MLTs have the highest success rates for total pain relief in the shortest amount of time. Although, everyone is different and all of the triptans on the market have been proven effective in clinical trials, so which one is best for you is really a personal choice that should be made by you and your doctor.
172336 tn?1202254641 My doctor said not to worry, just that she would monitor to be sure my hgb did not get too high and put me at risk for clots. Too high! HAHAHAHAHA! no danger of that but it did get me back up above 10.
397977 tn?1201264847 I had to chuckle at your name-migraine mom. That is how my kids would describe me. I have had migraines similar to yours all my life. Beginning at age 12 with my first period. When I was young generally they were monthly and I could count on them for sure with each period. They were very debilitating. My mother got them also. Of course for the times, ie; the 70's, there wasn't much help especially for kids.
518798 tn?1295212279 No headache though. I guess I will go to the doctor again after work and get them to check it. She told me I would be able to notice a change immediately in the blood pressure meds. I guess I could be rushing the meds.
Avatar n tn I'm not a doctor, but every time I get a migraine, which I've been getting for 16 years, I've noticed that during the most severe migraines, I'm very nauseous and even thrown up...which made my migraine so bad, that I had to got o the hospital for pain meds. The only medicine that got rid of my migraine (and the nausea) was Imitrex. I've even gotten the imitrex shot. Have you tried Imitrex?
Avatar m tn Most insurance only allows a very small amount per month, so rebound headaches would be hard to come by. To get Botox for migraine (which has been even a better solution for me), you must have tried at least 3 or 4 different solutions for migraines, for years, have over a certain amount per month, and whatever other qualifications your insurance company has (certain # of migraines/month). Not easy to get approved. But now I can take 1/3 an Imitrix tablet and have the migraine vanish.
507619 tn?1211845850 I use the Imitrex nasal spray and it gets rid of my headaches with no euphoria or narcotic "haze".
