536122 tn?1213486475 If this is not a tension headache, it may be a cluster headache. This type of headache is extremely painful, unilateral headaches of a piercing quality. The duration of the common attack is 15 minutes to three hours. Onset of an attack is rapid, and most often without the preliminary signs that are characteristic of a migraine. It has been also known to strike at the same time and wake a person from sleep.
Avatar n tn Hi, Yes then it is most likely a tension headache. If your headache is not being relieved by NSAIDS, it is important that you consult your doctor for other medications. Apart from medications, regular exercise, warm shower, cold packs and a vacation may help you as well. Take care!
Avatar n tn Yes, let me know what the doctor says even though I been to neurologists and headache specialists they just don't know! thank God for the imitrex i mean it goes away after 15 minutes of taking it, but how much longer do i have to take this for? It can't be that safe to keep taking this. Did you try 100mg's of imitrex? That's what works for me I had tried 50 and it didn nothing once I got 100 it was a whole new world.
Avatar n tn I have been everywhere actually I went to a headache center they gave me nerve block injections in these areas. I take imitrex for my migraines 100mg's which works great! I have 2 herniated discs in my neck I know, but I know there is something else going on. I am gonig to see a spine specialist and get a MRI done of my neck and back. I did a lot of research and many migraines come from the neck. I just hope there's an answer soon.
Avatar n tn Migraine may be combined with tension headaches or may develop neurological symptoms. Tension headache, in particular presents with dull constant pain. Rest, ice packs, medications, avoidance of trigger, and relaxation techniques such as biofeedback, may help provide relief. If it persists, you may need to have this checked by your doctor for proper evaluation. Take care and do keep us posted.
Avatar f tn If the headache lasts for less than 4 hours then it could be a chronic cluster headache or a chronic paroxysmal hemicranias. If it lasts for more than 4 hours it could be chronic tension headache, chronic migraine or altered migraine or hemicranias continua. The CDH could also be secondary to trauma, raised intracranial hypertension, high blood pressure, cervical disorders like pinched nerves, temporal arteritis etc.
Avatar n tn Extremely high BP can cause throbbing headache on top of the head. Other possibilities include chronic tension headache and migraine. The possibility of migraine is there because there is an accompanying nausea. It is best to get a neurological evaluation done and it is important to break this headache cycle. Topamax is usually prescribed to break the cycle of chronic headache. Hope this helps!
Avatar n tn Taking imitrex daily is likely setting her up for rebound headaches. I didn't take it daily, but experienced rebound headache before after taking imitrex. If she has not had an MRI (or CT scan) of her brain, her doctor should be ordering one to try to rule out brain tumor, aneurysm, or anything else that might cause headaches. You won't know if it's something like that until you test- so please urge her to get the pictures of her brain!
Avatar m tn If I miss a dose it triggers a migraine rebound headache. How can I taper off of oxycontin without triggering migraines, and without suffering the side effects of insomnia and anxiety ?
Avatar f tn Cluster headache may appear as burning, explosive in nature and tear appears from eyes. Tension headache originates with stress and anxiety disorder. Please arrange an appointment with a neurologist right away who will evaluate the further underlying disorders by clinically examine you & ordering MRI or CT scan here that may be the main reasons of your headache attacks & other symptoms and can provide you an appropriate treatment. Hope this information proves helpful to you.
Avatar n tn It has been about 11 days since my first bad headache and last night I took my first imitrex because I felt another bad headache coming on. The imitrex helped for around 4 hours to bring my headache down to a slight one but after the 4 hours I got nausea/malaise until I went to sleep. None of the symptoms have really gone away and I have also been experiencing some ringing in my ears and the vision problems seem like they may be getting worse.
Avatar n tn i been getting them to but all over my head at any time but my paint is only for 3 to 4 seconds an no more that 10 seconds i seen my neurologist and he told me its muscle tension. around my ears. i been suffering with this problem for over 6 years it come and goes. You should see your family doctor, It can be anything from stress to change in weather. But they are called Ice pick headache where a sharp pain will shoot all over your head at any time an any place.
Avatar f tn Your headache description can fit into 'cervicogenic headache' (vertebral column and structures thereto causing headache), especially since your neck and upper back hurt. See if some particular position of head and neck while lying down helps. Try to remember how the pain started. Or what do you think is the cause of the headache, neck and back pain. A neuro will be able to find out if your neck is causing the problem.
545538 tn?1295992017 t treat with anything except tylenol because of ITP which is a platelet disorder. My headaches are in the front and feel like tension or sinus infections (althought they are not).
411939 tn?1281598444 Thank you for your replies! I am half American Indian and the other half is mainly German. My "family history" on both sides only goes back three generations before me as my great grandparents were removed from Nebraska and my German ancestors are immigrants (I believe). Nobody that I, or my mom, can think of has a history of migraines in these three generations - immediate AND extended family. My dad, who died a few years ago, was adopted and his biological mom is uncooperative.
Avatar n tn I have tried several different preventative medications including Inderal LA, which I no longer take. I now take Imitrex 100mg PRN- but have noticed a few changes in my symptoms. I have never experienced an aura-I usually get the pain on one side(usually my left) that generates to behind my left eye. The headaches pretty much incapacitate me- I am nauseated-feel dizzy-overall malaise. Imitrex and 3 excedrin usually helped.
Avatar n tn A muscle spasm is an involuntary contraction of a muscle which can occur suddenly, usually resolve quickly, and are often painful. This can be associated with tension headaches and can be confirmed by palpating tenderness in the neck or occipital muscles. Also, tension headaches are often associated with migraine headaches, with no evidence of a vascular etiology. Prescription medications may be indicated for such conditions. Talk to your doctor also about this to ease any anxiety.
Avatar f tn Hi there! I don't know where you live... so I'm not really sure what to suggest... In Canada, where I live... they usually only refer you to a neurologist for headaches if an X-RAY/CT/MRI comes back irregular, if your GP thinks your case is too complicated, if you suffer from 15+ headache days per month OR if you have been to the ER for severe head pain (regardless of what the scans showed).
Avatar f tn In my opinion, that is a very odd medication for a migraine. Usually triptans like Imitrex or Maxalt are given for migraines and work very well. Usually the Fiorinal is given for tension headaces. Good luck and I hope you can find the perfect medication for you.
Avatar f tn I know I have Imitrex and I'm on Topamax for preventative. This is more tension than migraine...it's almost as painful, but different type of pain. And the Imitrex only works if it's a true migraine and I've wasted the last 3 Imitrex hoping it would help, and those suckers aren't cheap!!! But I REALLY appreciate the advice....I really do.
Avatar f tn Hi Mandy, Imitrex tablets have done wonders for my headaches/migraines. Fioricet didn't touch my pain but even if I take a half of an Imitrex tablet for the nasty headaches that aren't quite migraines yet, I feel so much better. I save a whole tablet or sometimes 2 tabs for the whopper migraines. Imitrex is in a class of medication known as sumatriptans and is not a narcotic. You definitely need insurance for it since it's expensive but the copays aren't bad at all.
2069693 tn?1331365365 They tried every migraine med, pain med, they could think of and then realized i was having a bad tension headache and all of the migraine meds were actually making it worse, something about making the muscles more ridged. anyway they finally gave me a muscle relaxer and lots of pheneragan, cuz doc also said sometimes the only way to break the cycle of these damn things is with sleep....... i was going to tell you to try the ibuprofen, aspirin, an caffeine thing but seems like you already have.
Avatar f tn Sinusitis, refractive errors of the eye, migraine, cluster headaches, brain tumors, high blood pressure, temporal arteritis, pinched cervical spinal nerve, tension headaches, poor or disturbed sleep etc are several causes of headaches. Dental pain and ear ache can cause similar symptoms. Please consult a headache and migraine specialist to rule out these causes one by one. Take care!
Avatar m tn I know that some doctors consider all forms of headache without an underlying disease as migraine. So migraine is not just the usual half sided three day long pulsating headache with nausea and noise and light sensitivity. It can give you very strange symptoms. I am sure a lot of you know that. My question is if triptans help against these strange chronic forms of migraine as well? And could they then be used for diagnostical purposes? Anyone knows? What are your experiences with triptans?
Avatar m tn January & February 2009 are relatively the same. Daily headache and spaciness feeling, but tolerable where I can function, but get fatigues easily doing so. Referred to hematologist and ferritin still high, but other markers do not correlate. Full work up thereafter is normal and hemo states 6 month f/u. Huge swollen lymph node on left groin, but PCP states due to ear infection and rx’s Zpak. My eyes also act like they do not want to function properly and feel strained almost non-stop.
Avatar f tn about 1-2 times/month and I would take an Imitrex and try and sleep it off. Over winter break, I got a headache and it stuck with me ever since. Here is a bit of history...I first noticed a knot in my neck during high school (7 years ago) and had my soccer trainer feel it, she never mentioned anything about it so I always thought it was just part of my head. Recently, I have had pain in the front left side of my head that I thought was stemming from the knot in my neck.
