I don't have much of a question, but wanted to introduce myself. I've periodically had migraines throughout my life, but they were never very often. However, that changed since I've been diagnosed with lupus and fibromyalgia (as well as other chronic pain issues). Especially since the fibro was discovered (about 15 years ago), my migraines have increased in frequency. The week before last, I had 3 in that week alone.
That is why you need to get a triptan in either a nasal spray or a quick dissolve tablet, such as zomig nasal spray or imitrex nasal spray or maxalt quick dissolve tablets. There is also a injection that would be fast acting too... but, they only prescribe the injection in very severe cases since no one wants to use an injection, but it is called a sumatriptan pen (because the needle sort of looks like a pen).
The fastest that Zomig Nasal Spray can work is 10 minutes.
I always kept Imitrex in a pill or spray form, so I could be ready. Keep a headache diary and look for clues as to what might trigger your migraines. My son is 9 and he was getting them very frequently. We learned that the drive to school, where he was facing the sunrise, and his not really eating his breakfast together triggered his pretty quickly. This school year we are doing a different routine and his are much less frequent.
I am so sorry for what you have been going through. I started having migraines when I was 23. They couldn't diagnose me for 8 years because I had no migraine and had vomiting all night (only at night) and abdominal pain. The neurologist did an electroencephalogram and found it was a migraine. I was put on doxepin for a year and that helped but then it didn't work so they finally put me on Klonopin and it went away but then in my 30's it changed to severe migraine and auras.
ve tried Imitrex tablets (no help since I threw them up), Imitrex Nasel Spray (once again, no help because I threw it up), Imitrex Injection (have you tried this? I couldn't keep taking because of an allergic reaction). Another good option is Relpax. It is a tablet BUT one of the benifits is that it helps with vomiting also. I did fine on this and I'm a huge vomiter (yuck, lack of a better word). Sure wish I had insurance still...

- Zolmitriptan. brand name Zomig. this is what i use. (although i have used all of them at some point) don't get the tablets... like imitrex, the tablets don't work. But, the nasal spray DOES work incredibly well and this is what is usually prescribed anyway.
- Almotriptan. brand name Axert. a very powerful triptan tablet.
I have always had this pain due to a car accident, my doctors have me on propolanol to take in the morning to prevent my headaches, and imitrex for when I do get them, but lately nothing is cutting it. Now with my headache, everytime I take a step when I am walking or turn my head I get very dizzy and light headed. Sunday night was so bad I had to take 2 imitrex and that didnt work, a pain pill, nothing seemed to help, all I could do was cry.
I am normally a healthy 60 yr old woman;walk 3 mi. every day; do not smoke or drink; good BP and blood tests good; recently since Oct. smells (fragrances, candles, gas or petro products) produce instant migraines and inner ear fullness/dizzyness/equalibrium problems. Neuro Dr. put me on a 5 day prednesone regime (10mg starting w/5 first day, 4 sec day and so on). still have headache and dizzyness.
What about Aleve, indomethacin, and the triptans (Zomig, Imitrex, Maxalt, Relpax) in the event that I do end up getting a migraine during this time? I was told I could take tylenol, not that it would dent one of my headaches. I asked the audiologists office but apparently they forgot to ask and now the audiologist is out of town. Now on 300mg of Topamax, 240 mg Varapamil , 10mg Lexapro , Birthcontrol ( Hormone Control ) , OTC Clariton , Prednisone , Daily Nasal Spray . I have tried Chiropractor and Accupuncture. Nothing is working to get ride of daily head ache and I am back up to 3-4 severe migraines a week where I need Fioricet because Imitrex has stopped working . Last week I has an attack where it took them two Tortal shots , an Imitrex shot and a phenergan shot plus three oxycoten .
What can cause a headache at bridge of nose? It happens 2-3 times per month and always lasts 24 hours. I've seen two ENT's and a neurologist but no answers. I've had septoplasty and turbinate reduction but got no relief. Imitrex for migraine helps if I take it at the onset but I don't believe it's a migraine. If I press on the top of my nose it relieves the pain but it comes back as soon as I release.

I was originally prescriped Stadol NS for migraines during my two pregnancies since I could not take Imitrex. I'm currently taking imitrex spray 20 mgs. I'm concern because nothing helps and I always end up with more pain and side affects. Is there anything natural I can do?
does either imitrex or maxalt contain caffeine? I was taking Maxalt for migraines and it worked great! Now my insurance has decided I need to try Imitrex before they will approve coverage for the Maxalt. The Imitrex took about 2 hours to have any effect, but eventually my headache subsided. Since then I have had recurring headaches for 4 days.
