341655 tn?1240368839 what is the difference between the imitrex injections and pills? Which is more effective and prescribed more?
Avatar f tn I don't have much of a question, but wanted to introduce myself. I've periodically had migraines throughout my life, but they were never very often. However, that changed since I've been diagnosed with lupus and fibromyalgia (as well as other chronic pain issues). Especially since the fibro was discovered (about 15 years ago), my migraines have increased in frequency. The week before last, I had 3 in that week alone.
Avatar f tn does either imitrex or maxalt contain caffeine? I was taking Maxalt for migraines and it worked great! Now my insurance has decided I need to try Imitrex before they will approve coverage for the Maxalt. The Imitrex took about 2 hours to have any effect, but eventually my headache subsided. Since then I have had recurring headaches for 4 days.
518798 tn?1295212279 Good Morning guys! I woke up with another migraine this morning. This is the 3rd one this month. I usually have about 2 in a year, but never this close together and this often. I have been taking 1 imitrex when I have a headache. My question is, "Is Imitrex habit-forming?" I have researched all the websites, but they also say that ultram isn't habit forming. I was just wanting some info from someone who has taken it.
Avatar f tn depression, anxiety, thyroid, cholesterol, now osteoporosis, pain pills and artritus pills. feels like a walking pill. he wants me to wait until it is time to go in for my mammogram and my bone density test. thank you. I have the name written down in my purse.
Avatar f tn One day soon you see that you popped way too many pills for the little of pain your body really has. The pills trick you into beleiving that you have more than you really do. You'll see. At 13 days, try a cool menthol rub. Put on paper towel & drape over area or all overnbody. Even rub on forehead. It was almost 4 weeks before most of my pain went away, but now I feel like such an idiot for taking 20 pills a day for almost nothing.
Avatar m tn I am so glad that you asked about imitrex! I take a triptan, like imitrex, and personally I think that triptans are the best treatment for acute migraines, and they are also the most prescribed medication for acute migraines.
314128 tn?1226857620 Have you tried Imitrex, either on 100mg pills or injections for the migraine? To me it works wonders, combined w/a daily pill of Depakote ER 500mg to prevent migraines, they will occur less often.
Avatar f tn Hello, I'm 17 and I was diagnosed with migraines when I was 7. I've been getting them almost daily since that summer. Although with each new pill they put me on it stopped for a while. I was on midrin for a long while but I got used to it and started to max out and had the aide of other pills. I was put on Maxalt and it stopped working in a couple of months and I often time had to mix it with other pills.
Avatar n tn Has anybody found relief from migraines? I've tried everything from herbs to Imitrex. Started having rebound headaches with the imitrex and hated taking it anyway.
Avatar f tn Has the Dr ever prescribed imitrex? I suffer migraine headaches. As well. Just a question, your Dr has you on pain pills for another ailment, right?
557111 tn?1219712047 Yes, i also had them...I am not sure if I had them due to detox or not, because i have had them off and on since i was 16...The only medicine that works for me is imitrex...It is non-narcotic..Also i use phenegan so i don't throw it up...I hope you get something to help!!
656111 tn?1273820739 Anyway, I am taking Imitrex for my migraines. Well, I had problem with script to fill Imitrex medicine couple years ago.... it only supplys 9 and only covers one any type of migraine medication PER month. When I ran out of it, I asked my doctor to give me script for more Imitrex and I dropped script off at Walgreens then few minutes later, pharmacist told me that insurance was not covering that...
Avatar m tn //www.medhelp.org/posts/Addiction-Substance-Abuse/Imitrex---addicting-or-not/show/626880 ______________________________________________________ Here's a couple of the responses in the thread: By: masteele80 here is the lay of the land by someone who has taken almost everything. Anything, yes, anything - that changes your mood, alters your personality, or changes the way you feel, or sense pain - will, can and is addicting.
Avatar f tn As another chronic pain patient about all that i can tell you is that by the time that I quit the analgesics the pain really wasnt much worse either on or off the pills.........the pills can play tricks on you and they do.........I have had moderate success with lots of hot water - capsiacan, a pepper juice that Walgreens carries (works with exothermic heat - the "ben gay" effect) - and muscle stretching exercises...............
1508698 tn?1360215710 The migraines are the reason I started taking pills. I was wondering if anyone knew a good non narcotic pain medication.
Avatar n tn 00 for 9 pills yesterday. I get the 100mg. so that I can cut them in half and make eighteen 15 mg. pills. If I am wise and take one as soon as I feel one coming on, I can stop it with one half of the pill. Sometimes it doesn't work and I have to take the other half. That's just one way of stretching them. Also, I have my Dad buy them for me in Mexico where you don't need a prescription and they are about $50.00 for 9 pills. ig_me: I feel you with the Fiorinal.
1046692 tn?1255391835 Is it safe to take Lexapro and Imitrex? There is a warning on the package against this but I thought I would ask the professionals first.
Avatar n tn ve been many times to the doctor, although when I was younger they said there was no pills for this type of thing. They will come often, mostly a constant pressure that will build up now and again for weeks or months at a time, with short reprieves for a month or two. It's like a jabbing pain over my right eye that quickly becomes like a vise around my head, like my brain is swelling and my head can't contain it.
Avatar f tn The frequency of side effects, such as headache, decreased in those who took birth control pills containing lower doses of estrogen and did not occur in those who took birth control pills containing progesterone. Treatments: The medications of choice to stop a menstrual migraine are nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications (NSAIDs).
1056589 tn?1273747102 If you suffer from some other types of medical conditions too, Imitrex should not be taken. Do not take Imitrex if you have underlying cardiovascular diseases, if you have uncontrolled hypertension, if you are taking MAO-A antidepressants or and do not take Imitrex if you have severe hepatic impairment.
Avatar f tn I have migraines a few times a month (2-3) and take 50mg generic imitrex with an OTC NSAID. So after having two different doctors tell me that I need to get an "official diagnosis" of migraines from a neurologist, I finally saw a neuro. yesterday. To say that I am confused and angry is an understatement! For $250 he told me that I have mixed migraines/tension headaches and to reduce my stress and that my migraines would improve or lessen.
791533 tn?1309745344 He gave me a lot of different samples to try. None of which made a dent. So he prescribed me imitrex pills. They made me feel worse. Imitrex pills actually made me feel like someone was crushing my chest and my heart was about to stop--plus nausea. I knew that the injections would still be worthless to me, because I was terrified of the needle. I don't know why, but I feel like I'm more of a wimp now.
Avatar f tn I am so sorry for what you have been going through. I started having migraines when I was 23. They couldn't diagnose me for 8 years because I had no migraine and had vomiting all night (only at night) and abdominal pain. The neurologist did an electroencephalogram and found it was a migraine. I was put on doxepin for a year and that helped but then it didn't work so they finally put me on Klonopin and it went away but then in my 30's it changed to severe migraine and auras.
