Common Questions and Answers about Imitrex not working

imitrex

518798 tn?1295212279 It's not addictive BUT I will say that I heard from a neurologist that if you take it too often, it can definitely cause a "rebound" situation. He said your body knows you are going to take it. I used to take it almost daily and after I heard this (that combined with the cost) I went cold turkey for about two weeks. I had some rough days but the headaches I did have were contained with ice, laying down, dark room, etc.
Avatar f tn do you where glasses , you might needs glasses if not your pc needs to give youa check up.
Avatar m tn I get migraines as well and although I do not take imitrex, I to take a triptan, which is what imitrex is. The triptan that I take is called zomig, and I take a nasal spray version. There are lots of triptans on the market and imitrex is one of the first, the generic name is called sumatriptan and it is what they will give you in the hospital, but by injecteion, if you ever go in for a migraine...
Avatar f tn Im now on Butorphanol spray, demerol, ativan and sleeping pills, all for pain management, ,i have also been on preventatives for years,i have not worked for 20 yrs from my intense migraines. Although Imitrex im sure works for alot of people which is great if your body reacts well to it, unfortunately for me it didnt. Wishing you well in your journey.
Avatar f tn so there is no reason to become an addict or to crave the medication, but ones body will still become highly dependent on the medication to a point that if you take the body off the medication abruptly you can cause seizures and even death... Imitrex is NOT like that!! Imitrex does not cause any sort of high or euphoria so you cannot become addicted to it, you will not "crave" it when you are not in pain...
1590979 tn?1302006835 Imitrex is working great for me! I was battling with this horrible! I was miserable! I still am working on getting the neck muscles to stop trigger the head pressure. I keep a diary and have pin pointed that my neck is the root cause of my pain! I have so much pressure I feel like my head is going to push through my ears! If the imitrex does not work they put me on prendisone. I have even gone on infusion treatments.
1056589 tn?1273747102 If you suffer from some other types of medical conditions too, Imitrex should not be taken. Do not take Imitrex if you have underlying cardiovascular diseases, if you have uncontrolled hypertension, if you are taking MAO-A antidepressants or and do not take Imitrex if you have severe hepatic impairment.
Avatar f tn That has been lowered to 10 mg. Have not mixed in any migraine medicine but I do have imitrex.
507619 tn?1211845850 I use the Imitrex nasal spray and it gets rid of my headaches with no euphoria or narcotic "haze".
Avatar n tn I could not move my arms or legs. I could not swallow my drool. I swear if my breathing and blinking where not involuntary I would not have been doing either of those. I have met someone else that this has happened before to them as well. But the time it took their body to recover was about 30-45 mins much shorter then my own. I was panicking. I couldn't do anything for myself and I feel as if I should not have to state this but I could do NOTHING for myself.
Avatar n tn t take it daily, but experienced rebound headache before after taking imitrex. If she has not had an MRI (or CT scan) of her brain, her doctor should be ordering one to try to rule out brain tumor, aneurysm, or anything else that might cause headaches. You won't know if it's something like that until you test- so please urge her to get the pictures of her brain! Is she working with a neurologist on her headaches?
Avatar f tn Are they migraines, which is what imitrex is for (not sure of the relevance of coumadin for headaches)? There are natural remedies for migraines, but they'd be different than treating headaches, for which one would need to know what kind of headache.
Avatar m tn Ric is right. Imitrex is not addictive. Have you tried botox for migraines? I have friends that have had AMAZING success with that.
1046692 tn?1255391835 Is it safe to take Lexapro and Imitrex? There is a warning on the package against this but I thought I would ask the professionals first.
Avatar f tn Hi, How are you? Try not to take more than the prescribed pills. Three or four pills every two hours is not advisable. It may even cause you more harm than good. If these prescription medications do not work, you can also consider the complimentary and alternative medicine such as biofeedback therapy. Talk to your doctor about this. It is also important to determine the possible triggers that may be causing your migraines. Take care and do keep us posted.
341655 tn?1240368839 what is the difference between the imitrex injections and pills? Which is more effective and prescribed more?
1079216 tn?1258200805 Hi, Hope that the B12 helps. Does the Imitrex help? Don't be shy if something isn't working let the dr's know. I sure know how it feels not to know where to turn, I am still at Mayo clinic and it is going good so far. Remind me what preventative you take now? And the Imitrex. What preventatives have they tried? So sorry I am repeating things probably but then I can think it out better. Keep us posted, Thinking of you.
Avatar f tn does either imitrex or maxalt contain caffeine? I was taking Maxalt for migraines and it worked great! Now my insurance has decided I need to try Imitrex before they will approve coverage for the Maxalt. The Imitrex took about 2 hours to have any effect, but eventually my headache subsided. Since then I have had recurring headaches for 4 days.
Avatar m tn I am a 50 yr old male in decent but not great shape. I like to play tennis in the summer but one of the drawbacks is a migraine after playing in the sun/heat/humidity. I have since realized that I've gotten sick from prolonged exertion to the sun/heat since I was a kid & played little league. I do take Imitrex for the Migraines (I have 4 sisters who also deal with Migraines so obviously hereditary).
Avatar n tn Nothing is working to get ride of daily head ache and I am back up to 3-4 severe migraines a week where I need Fioricet because Imitrex has stopped working . Last week I has an attack where it took them two Tortal shots , an Imitrex shot and a phenergan shot plus three oxycoten . I think I am in rebound headaches from over medication but my doctor does not want to listen . Help do I need a second opinion ?!?!
Avatar n tn That plan sounds like it will be very time consuming and expensive with very low success rate. Also astigmatism should not cause headaches that last to the next day and require imitrex. I suggest you see a neuro-ophthalmologist as you may have an eye muscle disorder like convergence insufficiency. You can find one near you at www.geteyesmart.
Avatar m tn ve been on 3 different medications including, inderal 10 milligrams which stopped working, inderal 25 milligrams which caused me to black out and get dizzy, and amitriptyline 25 milligrams, which stopped working. I'm concerned because after talking to my doctor he looked at my charts and noted that I relapse with migraines every three months. These migraines are so severe it keeps me from doing my every day activities.
Avatar f tn One night to avoid the ER with a terrible migraine I broke down and took the imitrex shot. Within seconds the palpitations stopped, and did not pick back up again for about 3 days. That was the last time I had taken imitrex and it's been 3 full months now with no migraine medications, only Advil. Thankfully I started Cranio Sacral which reduced the migraines. 5 months ago I got my first panic attack, out of no where.
Avatar f tn I am having trouble determining whether my migraine medication, Imitrex, is one them. Sumitriptan and naproxen are not on the list, but since this drug narrows blood vessels, I wonder if it's best not to take it before surgery.
390338 tn?1206462648 I really can't say that the Topamax is helping yet. I have been slowly increasing the dosage. I guess maybe if I stretch the positive a little I was at the point of getting migraines that were lasting at least 3 days sometimes 4 with only a few days break before getting another. Now I have been having a full week in between but some pretty good headaches that others still might consider a migraine. So, he did increase from 100mg to 125mg today. So, I'm not sure yet.
