Imitrex nasal dosage

Common Questions and Answers about Imitrex nasal dosage

imitrex

Avatar m tn t try to give you a generic version of the sumatriptan in a non-quick dissolve tablet instead of the brand-name imitrex version which automatically comes in a quick dissolve tablet. Imitrex ALSO comes in a nasal spray and an injection. The imitrex tablet should work in HALF AN HOUR. The imitrex nasal spray can work in 10-20 minutes.... same with the injection pretty much.
1125820 tn?1265284446 The bioavailability of Imitrex tablets is pretty pathetic, honestly, so Imitrex Injection is VERY different then Imitrex tablets or Imitrex Nasal Spray. Also, which Maxalt did you try? Did you try the regular Maxalt tablets or the Maxalt-MLTs? The Maxalt-MLTs are the orally disintegrating tablets. The Maxalt-MLTs work better than the regular Maxalt tablets. If you haven't tried Maxalt-MLTs yet, I would suggest giving those a try too. Which Zomig did you try?
507619 tn?1211845850 I use the Imitrex nasal spray and it gets rid of my headaches with no euphoria or narcotic "haze".
Avatar f tn I feel for you, I have them also and have tried almost everything, Imitrex Nasal is the only thing I've found that works for me, I can't take the other meds listed above either.
Avatar m tn That is why you need to get a triptan in either a nasal spray or a quick dissolve tablet, such as zomig nasal spray or imitrex nasal spray or maxalt quick dissolve tablets. There is also a injection that would be fast acting too... but, they only prescribe the injection in very severe cases since no one wants to use an injection, but it is called a sumatriptan pen (because the needle sort of looks like a pen). The fastest that Zomig Nasal Spray can work is 10 minutes.
Avatar f tn examples are maxalt-MLT, zomig-ZMT, zomig nasal spray, imitrex or imitrex nasal spray. But, only your doctor can prescribe these or say if they are actually appropriate for you and your headache (not everyone can take them).
Avatar f tn I am normally a healthy 60 yr old woman;walk 3 mi. every day; do not smoke or drink; good BP and blood tests good; recently since Oct. smells (fragrances, candles, gas or petro products) produce instant migraines and inner ear fullness/dizzyness/equalibrium problems. Neuro Dr. put me on a 5 day prednesone regime (10mg starting w/5 first day, 4 sec day and so on). still have headache and dizzyness.
Avatar f tn What is the correct dosage of sudafed child nasal decongestant to give a child that weighs 27 lbs?
Avatar f tn My dr recently told me that they are changing one of my meds from lortab to norco, same dosage but less acetaminophen. They also said they would be changing from 3x to 4x per day. I had a migraine during visit and wasn't thinking very clearly, so I didn't think to ask why the increase. I will ask this during my next visit, but in the meantime am wondering if anyone had had a similar situation or may offer any info. Thank you and best wishes for a great day.
768044 tn?1294223436 I currently use zomig nasal spray. I give it two thumbs up! In the past I have also used Maxalt (the dissolving kind) and Axert. I like zomig. The taste of the nasal spray isn't great (okay, it's TERRIBLE), but it works better than the tablets (in my personal experience and also this is true in terms of the chemical interaction of the medication in the various forms as they've found via scientific trials...
Avatar f tn I don't have much of a question, but wanted to introduce myself. I've periodically had migraines throughout my life, but they were never very often. However, that changed since I've been diagnosed with lupus and fibromyalgia (as well as other chronic pain issues). Especially since the fibro was discovered (about 15 years ago), my migraines have increased in frequency. The week before last, I had 3 in that week alone.
635402 tn?1270162477 The new drug is to be called TREXIMET and according to the makers, was to be a vast improvement over Imitrex. Like Imitrex, it is made to be taken at the onset of a migraine, but is supposed to work faster and better to reduce migraine pain. GSK has spent several years and millions of dollars researching and "pre-marketing" Treximet in anticipation of FDA approval and product launch. So what's the deal? Is this really better than Imitrex alone?
Avatar n tn t get imitrex tablets, get the imitrex or generic nasal spray or imitrex or generic injection OR treximex tablets but NOT imitrex tablets. - Zolmitriptan. brand name Zomig. this is what i use. (although i have used all of them at some point) don't get the tablets... like imitrex, the tablets don't work. But, the nasal spray DOES work incredibly well and this is what is usually prescribed anyway. - Almotriptan. brand name Axert. a very powerful triptan tablet.
1079216 tn?1258200805 Usually the bioavailability of a nasal spray will be higher than the bioavailability of a oral tablet, such as with the triptan Zomig, where the bioavailability of the oral tablets is 40% and the bioavailability of the nasal spray is 102% (when the bioavailability is higher than 100% it means that the medication by that route works better then it would by intravenous injection), although this sort of increase between oral administration and nasal administration is not the case with Imitrex.
518798 tn?1295212279 I usually use the imitrex nasal spray, but they didn't have any and couldn't get it in for a couple of days. I couldn't wait that long so they gave me the pills. I don't think the pills work as well as the spray. I, too, only have a couple a year, but this is the 3rd one this month. I try not to take it unless I absolutely have to because they cost so much.
Avatar n tn Now on 300mg of Topamax, 240 mg Varapamil , 10mg Lexapro , Birthcontrol ( Hormone Control ) , OTC Clariton , Prednisone , Daily Nasal Spray . I have tried Chiropractor and Accupuncture. Nothing is working to get ride of daily head ache and I am back up to 3-4 severe migraines a week where I need Fioricet because Imitrex has stopped working . Last week I has an attack where it took them two Tortal shots , an Imitrex shot and a phenergan shot plus three oxycoten .
Avatar n tn I've had what the doctors call cluster migraines for about 15 years. I've been many times to the doctor, although when I was younger they said there was no pills for this type of thing. They will come often, mostly a constant pressure that will build up now and again for weeks or months at a time, with short reprieves for a month or two.
1102283 tn?1257817472 Hi Juniper! First-line acute migraine medications are triptans. There are currently 7 triptans on the market, plus one triptan that is also mixed with an NSAID called Naproxen. I believe that fast acting triptans are the best in most situations because they work the fastest. Fast acting triptans come in orally disintegrating tablets or nasal sprays. I personally use Zomig Nasal Spray and find it works extremely well. I also have found great success with Maxalt-MLTs.
Avatar f tn Hi Mary. I can totally understand your frustration with your health. I am much like you in that I am most often in those same rooms. I am still adjusting to the idea that I can no longer do many of the things I loved to do and that my life has changed dramatically because of my illness. It is isolating and definitely can cause one to be depressed. You aren't alone. I was also a Type A and i'm finding that most who have fibro were also.
397977 tn?1201264847 So, also reluctant to try the Imitrex nasal I did it! And for the first time ever in my life it warded off the migraine. I am in complete shock as I was such an nonbeliever. Maybe because I have lived with migraines so long I almost expect them and think there is no way around them.
Avatar f tn t do anything until recently and even with pain killers such as vicodin and morphine(which was via i.v.) and imitrex there was no relief.I normally go about 3 weeks with a migraine get a couple days free but then it comes back normally in the middle of the night to where I wake up crying from the pain.I have had this current one without break for 5 weeks and 3 days.Is it normal to suffer for this long and for this many years with few breaks in between?
Avatar f tn ) I stopped taking it. I would use it if the headache/migraine wasnt bad enough to take Imitrex. It worked well for me.... but dont take too much...it did not make me feel "high" either....
