I am having trouble determining whether my migraine medication, Imitrex, is one them. Sumitriptan and naproxen are not on the list, but since this drug narrows blood vessels, I wonder if it's best not to take it before surgery.

so, you could maybe, if your doctor thought it was a good idea, mix up your treatment plan by using Imitrex sometimes and Naproxen sometimes, IF the Naproxen worked. Otherwise... talk to your doctor about other non-triptan options for pain control. AND... most important, get your doctor to switch you to a new preventative, because the ELATROLET isn't working for you (it didn't work for me either!).

The medication Treximet is a combination of Imitrex and Naproxen so that is what gave me the idea to start taking the naproxen at the same time as my Zomig... well, actually it was my doctor's idea, because I asked him about Treximet and he told me I could just take my regular triptan and naproxen at the same time. Also, oh, I didn't put Treximet down as an option, I am so sorry!! It's so new that I completely forgot about it! Oops, umm...

i have migrain problem today i went to see my doctor. she prescribed naproxen 500 mg to me. in this past i had been addicted to opiates(no pills) i don't want mess up this time with pills.i just want to know if the the above mentioned medicine is of addictive nature in the long run.

The bioavailability of Imitrex tablets is pretty pathetic, honestly, so Imitrex Injection is VERY different then Imitrex tablets or Imitrex Nasal Spray. Also, which Maxalt did you try? Did you try the regular Maxalt tablets or the Maxalt-MLTs? The Maxalt-MLTs are the orally disintegrating tablets. The Maxalt-MLTs work better than the regular Maxalt tablets. If you haven't tried Maxalt-MLTs yet, I would suggest giving those a try too. Which Zomig did you try?

The most effective triptans are the quick-absorbing triptans, such as Zomig Nasal Spray, Maxalt-MLTs, or Imitrex Injection. Imitrex Injection is rarely used since it is an injection, but Zomig Nasap Spray or Maxalt-MLTs are simple to take and usually work for most people. Sometimes people use a medication called Naproxen in combination with their triptans, and that works very well.

t get imitrex tablets, get the imitrex or generic nasal spray or imitrex or generic injection OR treximex tablets but NOT imitrex tablets. - Zolmitriptan. brand name Zomig. this is what i use. (although i have used all of them at some point) don't get the tablets... like imitrex, the tablets don't work. After a concussion last summer, I started getting them almost daily, where I would get blurry vision, tremors in my hands, nausea, difficulty speaking, pain in the left temple, and falling. I am so glad that you asked about imitrex! I take a triptan, like imitrex, and personally I think that triptans are the best treatment for acute migraines, and they are also the most prescribed medication for acute migraines.

I don't have much of a question, but wanted to introduce myself. I've periodically had migraines throughout my life, but they were never very often. However, that changed since I've been diagnosed with lupus and fibromyalgia (as well as other chronic pain issues). Especially since the fibro was discovered (about 15 years ago), my migraines have increased in frequency. The week before last, I had 3 in that week alone.

You are sort of already doing something similar to this when you take Imitrex and Excedrin at the same time. Since your migraines are chronic, Naproxen may be a safer medication to use as it will not cause rebound headaches even though it is an NSAID. Taking over-the-counter medication can cause rebound headaches. You may want to ask your doctor if taking a fast-acting triptan in combination with naproxen would be helpful in your case.

on day 10....today my doctor prescribed me Naproxen for my chronic back pain. I know I could search this, but would rather ask anyone with any experience with it's use. Good idea or not to use after 10 days clean. I dont even know if it's a "mild" narcotic or not, however I believe it's similar to Aleeve. Advice? thanks in advance.

Hi Juniper! First-line acute migraine medications are triptans. There are currently 7 triptans on the market, plus one triptan that is also mixed with an NSAID called Naproxen. I believe that fast acting triptans are the best in most situations because they work the fastest. Fast acting triptans come in orally disintegrating tablets or nasal sprays. I personally use Zomig Nasal Spray and find it works extremely well. I also have found great success with Maxalt-MLTs.

Now I find that I am sensitive to it along with just aspirin, acetaminophen, ibuprofen, and naproxen sodium. My physician prescribed Tramadol to try, but that also makes me feel bum. Does anyone know of any medication that might work? I don't really want to go into the heavy-duty meds, as I've never liked feeling "medicated". Otherwise, the heating pad, ice pack, and self-massage help. Accupuncture?

Thanks for telling me about this group. I have these headaches everyday and can use all the help I can get. It looks like I'll have to stop using Naproxen all together. It's not really super effective on these headaches anyway. I just had an endoscopy and the GI said that he found a couple of areas of concern and took a couple of gastric biopsies. It's too soon to know what the results will be, since I was told it could take at least a week and a half to get the results back.

what is the difference between the imitrex injections and pills? Which is more effective and prescribed more?

Is it safe to take Lexapro and Imitrex? There is a warning on the package against this but I thought I would ask the professionals first.

If you suffer from some other types of medical conditions too, Imitrex should not be taken. Do not take Imitrex if you have underlying cardiovascular diseases, if you have uncontrolled hypertension, if you are taking MAO-A antidepressants or and do not take Imitrex if you have severe hepatic impairment.

Usually the bioavailability of a nasal spray will be higher than the bioavailability of a oral tablet, such as with the triptan Zomig, where the bioavailability of the oral tablets is 40% and the bioavailability of the nasal spray is 102% (when the bioavailability is higher than 100% it means that the medication by that route works better then it would by intravenous injection), although this sort of increase between oral administration and nasal administration is not the case with Imitrex.

does either imitrex or maxalt contain caffeine? I was taking Maxalt for migraines and it worked great! Now my insurance has decided I need to try Imitrex before they will approve coverage for the Maxalt. The Imitrex took about 2 hours to have any effect, but eventually my headache subsided. Since then I have had recurring headaches for 4 days.

I have come to the conclusion that it might be tied to the naproxen. I think that due to 5+ yrs of vicodin use that he might have compromised his liver & kidneys so that the naproxen is causing his kidneys to be effected. Has anyone else ever experienced any side effects like this from anything containing the naproxen?

I am not diagnosed as rheumatoid arthritis yet sice all the test results are negative, but the doctor thinks i might be catching the early stage of the one. My doctor prescribed Naproxen. I took it and it works for the meantime but does it actually prevent from arthritis to stop the development of the disease or the symptom, or it's just a temporary pain relief?

I am pretty loyal to Imitrex. But always at max dose of 200mg. There is a new drug from makers of Imitrex called Trixamet. It is Imitrex plus an NSAID. I got a sample from my doc. I loved it. Trixamet is supposed to be covered by any insurance that takes Imitrex, but mine doesn't cover it. Maybe yours will. Hope I helped.

Good Morning guys! I woke up with another migraine this morning. This is the 3rd one this month. I usually have about 2 in a year, but never this close together and this often. I have been taking 1 imitrex when I have a headache. My question is, "Is Imitrex habit-forming?" I have researched all the websites, but they also say that ultram isn't habit forming. I was just wanting some info from someone who has taken it.

But then I was taking 6 tablets per migraine (max dose in 24 hours is 6 tabs). My neuro switched me to Imitrex and since then life has been so much better. I do have to watch for rebound headaches but I can always fix them with Advil or Naproxen.
