Imitrex memory loss

Common Questions and Answers about Imitrex memory loss

imitrex

I have been nauseated everyday. I took Imitrex lastnight at 5 it subsided enough to be tolerated and then came back again at midnight so I took another Imitrex. I woke up this morning with the same headache still. Feeling like my eyes are going to explode. I went into the doctor and they scheduled me for an MRI next week. Any helpful ideas of what might be going on would be great.
It should take about 2 months to get to that dosage but I'm getting kinda excited hearing about the benefit of weight loss especially since it was weight loss pills (metabolife and xenedrine) that caused me to find out that I was epileptic in the first place! The doctor told me that i might get tingling in my fingers and i might feel a little dopy but happy dopy he described it as, so I figure i can deal with that! If I start losing weight at a rapid pace i'll definitely post again!
Other than the memory loss, I feel great. The headaches are already mostly gone. But I am scared to death of causing long term damage with this drug - whether it is permanent hair loss (I'm 35) or damaging my memory/brain forever. Anyone have any experience with the medicine at this low a dose? I hate to go off of it, but with all the warning signs, it is hard to keep taking it. By the way, haven't noticed hair loss yet, but maybe it does feel thinner.
I am a 40 yr old female with a history of migraines. I've always used Topamax as a maintenance rx & Imitrex injections as a rescue rx. My migraines have been under control for over a yr. In the last 3 months, my headaches have returned. I have also noticed that memory (short & long term) & my cognitive skills have been affected. I.E. I can't remember parts of conversations that I only had 5 minutes ago.
Eventually I gradually started to get regular headaches again and I experienced a fairly severe memory loss issue which has not resolved yet. I was taken off the Topomax (this was about 5 years ago, I don't remember the replacement med) I'm currently on Fentanyl trying to break the cycle of pain. I have another series of MRI's both head and neck booked for the beginning of April to check again if there is something wrong.
I have few side effects. Memory was a problem before, I don't see a lot of difference now. Searching for a word is a problem some times these days. I still eat, but much less, which is wonderful. I think total loss since March 5th is 8 lbs. I get hungry but get full much sooner and don't want/need a snack in the evening or mid-afternoon. No cravings and some things don't taste 'wonderful'. I.E. a Hershey bar tastes like chocolate, but just doesn't taste GREAT, just 'OK'. Nothing special.
I was hoping someone would respond to my most recent and starange stymptoms which the doctors have yet to finalize their diagnosis. I saw double and some memory loss all while driving. luckily a cop pulled me over. I ended up in the ER where they did every neurological test but have yet to make a determination. i am a migraine sufferer who never had any symptoms like this.
I have memory loss, speech problems, personality change, fatigue, and problems concentrating. He had some labe test done witch I have yet to recieve, an EEG, and MRI and MRA yesterday. Here are my results of the MRA. Findings:The included portions of the distal internal carotid arteries are patent to the point where they divide into anterior and middle cerebral artery A1 and M1 segments.
I was signifcantly overmedicated (400mg daily) and suffered memory loss and other cognitive impairments (couldn't spell, processed info really slowly, word loss, etc) for about 2 years. My doc didn't take my complaints seriously. It got to the point that it was dangerous for me to drive. I now take 50mg of Topamax daily and have good migraine control without side effects. I only need OTC meds for the occassional breakthrough migraine. I also went to a chiropractor who worked on my jaw.
Hello Dear, There Could be different causes for the headache like trigeminal neuralgia, tension headache, head injury, sinusitis etc What is your age?Was there any head injury? Is there any memory loss? Are you hypertensive? You should get your blood pressure levels monitored to rule out hypertension. If the pain is periodic with nausea, vomiting ,it might be a migraine headache. You should consult a physician and find out the cause so that the treatment can be decided.
Topamax is supposed to cause weight loss not gain. I noticed when the Zoloft was increased, so did the pounds. It's not really doing anything anyway, I should throw it out. I haven't been pigging out, I eat once a day usually. I know, I eat at night which is bad, but calories are calories. Ugh. I'm furious. In other news, as far as the bad thirst I was having right before Thanksgiving, that's gone now. The funny taste in my mouth is gone.
), nausea, general unwelless, loss of feeling in toes, tingles in face and arms, joint stiffness, jaw soreness, blurry vision, mood swings, memory loss, mental changes - CT-scan in August revealed colloid cyst between third and fourth vetricle - MRI confirmed cyst; cyst is 7mm, intermittent hydrocephalus I believe although MRI doesn't show any hydrocephalus.
Since these headaches started other symptoms have been popping up such as memory loss, trouble getting words out right, trouble focusing, I've stopped driving because I kept getting lost driving my 2 year old to and from her pre-school that's less than 3 miles away. So far the Dr's have tested me for lupus which came back negative and done one ct scan and one mri with no contrast. They have done no other blood work and no spinal taps.
But the symptoms will be enough. They can try imitrex or another sumatriptan type pill that will stop the migraines. It also may help with the dizziness and some of your other problems. I have a migraine variant. I started throwing up only at night usually after excitement or stress and couldn't stop and got abdominal pain and had to go to the ER so they could rehydrate me and give me something to stop the vomiting. I had no migraines back then. I had all the scans, blood tests etc.
This has went on for two years now. I have had problems with memory loss, I cannot remember how to spell anything or I would try to type a word and type the wrong word. An example would be trying to type memory and type money. Always with the same first letter just the wrong word. I have been diagnosed with migraines and nothing more. I have seen two neurologists who both have told me it is stress and will not run any tests (other than an MRI). In the past two weeks a new symptom has shown up.
They are suspicious and this is one of the reasons the mri was done, the other was the migraines. My other symptoms include parasthesis in feet, falling often,( broke hip last year), memory loss, severe depression. I should mention the problems started prior to the topamax. Any insight you have you have is kindly appreciated. Thanks, Sandy in Florida.

The symptoms continued intermittently for weeks along with nausea, reflux, verdigo and severe memory loss (i got lost on a college campus that I knew like the back of my hand). I went to Johns Hopkins to see a specialist (Jon Weingart) who did a spinal fluid flow test.I had zero spinal fluid flowing to the back side of my brain and very little to the front. I needed the surgery!
I get the tingling too(fingers, toes, heels), mostly right after I've taken it. It makes my stomach hurt, makes me feel anxious and kinda irritated and when I take my night dose (50 mg), sometimes I have trouble breathing. I also take Neurontin 3 x day-started taking it 3 years ago after I had a root canal and developed jaw pain that never has gone away. My oral surgeon did an MRI to rule out TMJ, and gave me Neurontin b/c they thought I might have a nerve causing pain in my jaw.
I went into the doctor and they scheduled me for an MRI wich I will put the results of at the bottom. I failed to mention my loss of concentration, memory loss, and I cant seem to find words. I have had this for the past 5 months or so. I have this pressure that is constant but hurts more sometimes when I bend over or walk the first few steps after getting of the sofa. Also about 4 years ago I developed this rash that would come and go for about a year.
I'm also experiencing memory fog, memory loss, and confusion. (I take PROZAC for depression) I had a complete hysterectomy 15+ years ago--yet I experience " hot flashes" several times a day (accompanied by nausea, dizziness, extreme sweating, and muscle weakness). I had barr-epstein mononucleosis last year for months. The accompanying extremely sore mouth has not healed but continues to burn and has deep"fissures" in it --with chronic bad breath!
The bioavailability of Imitrex tablets is pretty pathetic, honestly, so Imitrex Injection is VERY different then Imitrex tablets or Imitrex Nasal Spray. Also, which Maxalt did you try? Did you try the regular Maxalt tablets or the Maxalt-MLTs? The Maxalt-MLTs are the orally disintegrating tablets. The Maxalt-MLTs work better than the regular Maxalt tablets. If you haven't tried Maxalt-MLTs yet, I would suggest giving those a try too. Which Zomig did you try?
I have also experienced tingling in my head and recently i have been experienceing memory and cognitive problems. Also I have floaters and flashes about 40% of the day that are totally unrelated to my migraines.I am scheduled to see a nueroligist but my doctor looks at me as if I am crazy. I feel like a hypocondriac, I had blood tests done and everythng appears normal.
This chiari thing, just happened dx that is, because I have had memory loss. So pain mgmt. doc sent me for a MRI. That's when they found it.

The American Academy of Neurology scale is graded on a scale of 1 to 3, where grade 3 has any loss of consciousness. Grade 2 is with any symptoms lasting more than 15 minutes. If there is any loss of consciousness or alteration in mentation or neurological deficit, labeling the injury as traumatic brain injury would also be appropriate.

In my 30's I got migriane headaches and aura, sometimes aura only or both or just migraine. So I was put on Imitrex. This has helped a lot with the pain. This year I have started to get a lot of visuals, double vision, vertigo that comes on suddenly and I fall, part of my vision was black out for about 30 seconds and flying yellow lights in addition to the migraine headaches.
They will cause seizures, memory loss, accidents, loss of fine motor skills, inability to speak and more. They are not your friend. You need to focus on THAT. They are not good at all and really should be taken off the market... I do know how you feel. I couldn't let them go for a very long time and when I finally did I had a lot of help. I don't think I could have done it on my own even though they were makig me so sick. I kept trying to conquer the sick feeling.
