OmyGosh..I'm Margie. Many years ago, I had chronic migrains. Bad ones that were debiliating to my marriage and career. For years, I used the nasel or pill form of Imitrex. I, at the time in my life, was also going through a bunch of "Garbage" as I call it.. e.i., multiple tragedies back to back. I believed, at the time, that the onslaught of such stress was the reason for my memory loss in my years of 41-52ish.
This has went on for two years now. I have had problems with memory loss, I cannot remember how to spell anything or I would try to type a word and type the wrong word. An example would be trying to type memory and type money. Always with the same first letter just the wrong word. I have been diagnosed with migraines and nothing more. I have seen two neurologists who both have told me it is stress and will not run any tests (other than an MRI). In the past two weeks a new symptom has shown up.
I have had migraines for many years and want to share my experience with Imitrex. It worked great for me until I went through period when I got lots of migraines in a short period of time. I had a rebound effect from the Imitrex. I have had better luck alternating the meds....Imitrex for one then Relpax for example. I also had better results with Axert and Frova which I also alternated to avoid the rebound problem.
I am so sorry for what you have been going through. I started having migraines when I was 23. They couldn't diagnose me for 8 years because I had no migraine and had vomiting all night (only at night) and abdominal pain. The neurologist did an electroencephalogram and found it was a migraine. I was put on doxepin for a year and that helped but then it didn't work so they finally put me on Klonopin and it went away but then in my 30's it changed to severe migraine and auras.
I've had memory loss due to vitamin B12 malabsorption, hypothyroidism, and severe stress. Alzheimer's is also called Diabetes Type 3. A book you might want to read is called Brain Grain by David Perlmutter M.D.

re in an alcohol/substance related group - memory loss can be associated with drinking. It can be associated with many other things, too - from different medications, mental or cognitive health conditions, and even sometimes stress. I think it is very important that you speak to a doctor who can survey your health & lifestyle profile to work with what is known - and other factors that may not be known.

you might need to forget some of your most valuable memories to be able to regain your short term memory... Thats how computers work... when my computer starts running out of memory it gets a case of short term memory loss on a monthly basis!
I have had sleep apnea for many years and recently I have been experiencing short periods of memory loss . I will be doing something then I will forget what I was doing or where I am . It only lasts for 5 to 15 seconds then I am back to normal and I remember what I was doing and where I am. I am able to function during these episodes .
