Common Questions and Answers about Imitrex medicine

imitrex

Avatar f tn 37 year old daughter has chronic headaches is on coumadin and imitrex no longer working.
Avatar f tn I don't have much of a question, but wanted to introduce myself. I've periodically had migraines throughout my life, but they were never very often. However, that changed since I've been diagnosed with lupus and fibromyalgia (as well as other chronic pain issues). Especially since the fibro was discovered (about 15 years ago), my migraines have increased in frequency. The week before last, I had 3 in that week alone.
Avatar f tn However, I am only allowed 9 pills for the month thru my health insurance. Is there another new migraine medicine out there that I could get that would be similier but would allow me more pills for the month.
1508698 tn?1360215710 hi sorry you are having the headaches...i used to get them as well....luckily i haven't had one in a long time....i've read that Imitrex isn't a narcotic so maybe ask about that?? i don't know anything about it, never taken it but a friend of mine did....and when i had them, i took Excedrin Migraine..otc...it seemed to help. hope you feel better soon!!
1056589 tn?1273747102 If you suffer from some other types of medical conditions too, Imitrex should not be taken. Do not take Imitrex if you have underlying cardiovascular diseases, if you have uncontrolled hypertension, if you are taking MAO-A antidepressants or and do not take Imitrex if you have severe hepatic impairment.
561539 tn?1216438257 I took imitrex for the second time ever over the weekend. I stopped over 24 hours ago and still might right side of nose and face from cheek up is completely numb. the medicine should be out of my system by now. i have a regular md appt tomorrow because i'm scared. is it medicine damage (which should be out of my system) or is it migraine damage?
Avatar n tn I'm not a doctor, but every time I get a migraine, which I've been getting for 16 years, I've noticed that during the most severe migraines, I'm very nauseous and even thrown up...which made my migraine so bad, that I had to got o the hospital for pain meds. The only medicine that got rid of my migraine (and the nausea) was Imitrex. I've even gotten the imitrex shot. Have you tried Imitrex?
Avatar f tn Complementary and alternative medicine like acupuncture has also been effective in some patients. It is best that you check with your attending physician for proper management. Avatar m tn I am so glad that you asked about imitrex! I take a triptan, like imitrex, and personally I think that triptans are the best treatment for acute migraines, and they are also the most prescribed medication for acute migraines.
Avatar f tn so there is no reason to become an addict or to crave the medication, but ones body will still become highly dependent on the medication to a point that if you take the body off the medication abruptly you can cause seizures and even death... Imitrex is NOT like that!! Imitrex does not cause any sort of high or euphoria so you cannot become addicted to it, you will not "crave" it when you are not in pain...
557111 tn?1219712047 Yes, i also had them...I am not sure if I had them due to detox or not, because i have had them off and on since i was 16...The only medicine that works for me is imitrex...It is non-narcotic..Also i use phenegan so i don't throw it up...I hope you get something to help!!
656111 tn?1273820739 Well, I had problem with script to fill Imitrex medicine couple years ago.... it only supplys 9 and only covers one any type of migraine medication PER month. When I ran out of it, I asked my doctor to give me script for more Imitrex and I dropped script off at Walgreens then few minutes later, pharmacist told me that insurance was not covering that...
Avatar f tn anymore! I take way too much Imitrex. I somehow need these to subside. I don't know what else to do any natural solutions for me without medication?
Avatar f tn That has been lowered to 10 mg. Have not mixed in any migraine medicine but I do have imitrex.

Avatar f tn Hi Mandy, Imitrex tablets have done wonders for my headaches/migraines. Fioricet didn't touch my pain but even if I take a half of an Imitrex tablet for the nasty headaches that aren't quite migraines yet, I feel so much better. I save a whole tablet or sometimes 2 tabs for the whopper migraines. Imitrex is in a class of medication known as sumatriptans and is not a narcotic. You definitely need insurance for it since it's expensive but the copays aren't bad at all.
Avatar f tn I use imitrex and that seems to help get rid of them sometimes. I have been to Mayos Clinic, allergy clinics, had a hysterectomy, and to a Univ. Hospital. I am at the end of the line. I am getting 2 to 3 a week. The last drug I tried, Verampamil, is what the Mayos Dr. suggested. I did find out I had sleep apnea so now I don't wake up with a migraine. I'm getting older and I'm getting tired of the pain. What else is there to try?
Avatar m tn played little league. I do take Imitrex for the Migraines (I have 4 sisters who also deal with Migraines so obviously hereditary). My question is, is there anything I can take before playing tennis or after to alleviate the migraines. Sometimes the Imitrex helps tremendously & sometimes it takes more the one 50 mg pill.
341655 tn?1240368839 what is the difference between the imitrex injections and pills? Which is more effective and prescribed more?
1046692 tn?1255391835 Is it safe to take Lexapro and Imitrex? There is a warning on the package against this but I thought I would ask the professionals first.
Avatar f tn does either imitrex or maxalt contain caffeine? I was taking Maxalt for migraines and it worked great! Now my insurance has decided I need to try Imitrex before they will approve coverage for the Maxalt. The Imitrex took about 2 hours to have any effect, but eventually my headache subsided. Since then I have had recurring headaches for 4 days.
Avatar f tn Hello, I'm 17 and I was diagnosed with migraines when I was 7. I've been getting them almost daily since that summer. Although with each new pill they put me on it stopped for a while. I was on midrin for a long while but I got used to it and started to max out and had the aide of other pills. I was put on Maxalt and it stopped working in a couple of months and I often time had to mix it with other pills.
Avatar m tn No it is not, Have you tried tordal,(not sure I srelled that right) it is also non addicting. I believe it comes in pill form now... Ask your dr...
Avatar f tn I would hold off on the imitrex for now. So your body doesn't get use to right away and you would have to keep upping the dose. Something we don't actually want as in the future if and when you may need surgery, you will want something that will help you recover. And if your body has adjusted to tthe medicine it won't help you. Imitrex I believe is taken as a last measure if nothing else helps.
Avatar m tn Alright my question is I need a cure I don’t think I have migraines maybe I can find a solution through this website or even a doctor that will work with me to find a cure(I am in Iraq right now).
