Common Questions and Answers about Imitrex just came

imitrex

Avatar f tn I don't have much of a question, but wanted to introduce myself. I've periodically had migraines throughout my life, but they were never very often. However, that changed since I've been diagnosed with lupus and fibromyalgia (as well as other chronic pain issues). Especially since the fibro was discovered (about 15 years ago), my migraines have increased in frequency. The week before last, I had 3 in that week alone.
Avatar m tn Now... just if you're wondering how the stuff works at all... I can let you know that too. Well, during a migraine... a bunch of stuff happens in your brain that causes all the symptoms of a migraine.
1056589 tn?1273747102 If you suffer from some other types of medical conditions too, Imitrex should not be taken. Do not take Imitrex if you have underlying cardiovascular diseases, if you have uncontrolled hypertension, if you are taking MAO-A antidepressants or and do not take Imitrex if you have severe hepatic impairment.
Avatar f tn I have FM and Migraines. I have not had the extended damage to my neck that you have but I have had damage several times in the form of dislocation, subluxations and worn cushion (?) between two vertebrae in my neck. I've had migraines since I was young from hormonal changes, then pregnancy, in my 30's they came with more frequency and now with the FM they came at least 4 times a week avg. I am post menopause 6 years so it is definitely not hormonal. I have FM now diagnosed 12 years.
1046692 tn?1255391835 Is it safe to take Lexapro and Imitrex? There is a warning on the package against this but I thought I would ask the professionals first.
Avatar n tn I have the EXACT same thing. I've tried Imitrex tablets (no help since I threw them up), Imitrex Nasel Spray (once again, no help because I threw it up), Imitrex Injection (have you tried this? I couldn't keep taking because of an allergic reaction). Another good option is Relpax. It is a tablet BUT one of the benifits is that it helps with vomiting also. I did fine on this and I'm a huge vomiter (yuck, lack of a better word). Sure wish I had insurance still...
768044 tn?1294223436 Thanks to anyone that answers who has any experience... or even anyone who has just been given a shot of Imitrex in the hospital before, how was that? Because I think getting Imitrex injections at the hospital is either the same thing or probably very similar to a prescription for Imitrex Injection, although I guess the difference is that by the time you get to the hospital it has already been a very long time so it might not work as well...
341655 tn?1240368839 what is the difference between the imitrex injections and pills? Which is more effective and prescribed more?
Avatar f tn Hi jcovaliu, Lots of us here on the forum suffer from chronic migraines, so we can really sympathize with you. Many of us have tried multiple preventative medications before finding the right preventative medication that worked for us. The Elatrolet you are taking is a preventative medication, it's generic name is Amitriptyline.
Avatar f tn I am pretty loyal to Imitrex. But always at max dose of 200mg. There is a new drug from makers of Imitrex called Trixamet. It is Imitrex plus an NSAID. I got a sample from my doc. I loved it. Trixamet is supposed to be covered by any insurance that takes Imitrex, but mine doesn't cover it. Maybe yours will. Hope I helped.
Avatar f tn does either imitrex or maxalt contain caffeine? I was taking Maxalt for migraines and it worked great! Now my insurance has decided I need to try Imitrex before they will approve coverage for the Maxalt. The Imitrex took about 2 hours to have any effect, but eventually my headache subsided. Since then I have had recurring headaches for 4 days.
518798 tn?1295212279 It's not addictive BUT I will say that I heard from a neurologist that if you take it too often, it can definitely cause a "rebound" situation. He said your body knows you are going to take it. I used to take it almost daily and after I heard this (that combined with the cost) I went cold turkey for about two weeks. I had some rough days but the headaches I did have were contained with ice, laying down, dark room, etc.
1508698 tn?1360215710 hi sorry you are having the headaches...i used to get them as well....luckily i haven't had one in a long time....i've read that Imitrex isn't a narcotic so maybe ask about that?? i don't know anything about it, never taken it but a friend of mine did....and when i had them, i took Excedrin Migraine..otc...it seemed to help. hope you feel better soon!!
Avatar f tn I used to get so many migraines and I was taking imitrex injections. When I moved the migraines got worse from stress and I started taking the imitrex daily, sometimes even multiple times a day. After about 3 months of this I started getting heart palpitations. They got so bad that I stopped taking my imitrex (cold turkey) on the whim that it was causing them. The palpitations started getting worse, but I had now talked myself into having a fear of imitrex (that it would kill me).
Avatar m tn Id suggest you read through this old thread on Imitrex. It was very interesting. http://www.medhelp.org/posts/Addiction-Substance-Abuse/Imitrex---addicting-or-not/show/626880 ______________________________________________________ Here's a couple of the responses in the thread: By: masteele80 here is the lay of the land by someone who has taken almost everything.

Avatar n tn I nee help. My mom is 45 and she has terrible headaches everyday. She takes Imitrex. She takes it everyday. She had bad headaches since 10 years ago, but now it's everyday that she has one. It's been like that for a month? What is wrong with her? I hope it's not some kind of tumor. Would migraine pill work for headache caused by tumor?
Avatar f tn Hello. I've been suffering from sever migraines for years but recently they have gotten worse.. For a week now I've had a constant pain. Ive tried imitrex and that hadn't help. I took a pain med n it help for a little while. But the pain is back ten fold. Is that because of the pain med.? Any suggestions on migraine medications?
Avatar n tn I have been put on everything from narcotics (which I refuse and hate) to Beta Blockers. (Which Do help) Currently on Propanol. But my very FIRST and ONLY time using Imitrex Oral Capsule. I took the medication and I was sitting in my reclining chair and in about 15 mins I became paralyzed for 2.5-3 hours. I had no other medications in my system. I DO NOT use drugs or drink alcohol. Only Imitrex. My husband honestly thought I was joking. I could not lift my head.
635402 tn?1270162477 The new drug is to be called TREXIMET and according to the makers, was to be a vast improvement over Imitrex. Like Imitrex, it is made to be taken at the onset of a migraine, but is supposed to work faster and better to reduce migraine pain. GSK has spent several years and millions of dollars researching and "pre-marketing" Treximet in anticipation of FDA approval and product launch. So what's the deal? Is this really better than Imitrex alone?
561539 tn?1216438257 I took imitrex for the second time ever over the weekend. I stopped over 24 hours ago and still might right side of nose and face from cheek up is completely numb. the medicine should be out of my system by now. i have a regular md appt tomorrow because i'm scared. is it medicine damage (which should be out of my system) or is it migraine damage?

Avatar f tn After taking 100mg of Imitrex for my migraines, within 3 hours after I usually feel all of a sudden kind of "out of it". I am just really "slow" feeling and neutral in personality unlike usual. Is this typical? Why does it do this?
Avatar f tn Is it addicting? I just noticed my prescription for migraines. Haven't turned it in because I wanted to research it. I've had it for a couple weeks so I need to make a decision about filling it or not...
1569579 tn?1299187685 Under the treatments for migraines why isn't Imitrex or Fioranal listed?
Avatar f tn I am having trouble determining whether my migraine medication, Imitrex, is one them. Sumitriptan and naproxen are not on the list, but since this drug narrows blood vessels, I wonder if it's best not to take it before surgery.
Avatar n tn Yes, let me know what the doctor says even though I been to neurologists and headache specialists they just don't know! thank God for the imitrex i mean it goes away after 15 minutes of taking it, but how much longer do i have to take this for? It can't be that safe to keep taking this. Did you try 100mg's of imitrex? That's what works for me I had tried 50 and it didn nothing once I got 100 it was a whole new world.
