768044 tn?1294223436 Has anyone else here tried Imitrex Injection? How did you find using the injection pen? Was it easy to learn how to use? Did you find it worked better then the other triptans? Thanks to anyone that answers who has any experience... or even anyone who has just been given a shot of Imitrex in the hospital before, how was that?
1056589 tn?1273747102 If you suffer from some other types of medical conditions too, Imitrex should not be taken. Do not take Imitrex if you have underlying cardiovascular diseases, if you have uncontrolled hypertension, if you are taking MAO-A antidepressants or and do not take Imitrex if you have severe hepatic impairment.
Avatar f tn I am so sorry for what you have been going through. I started having migraines when I was 23. They couldn't diagnose me for 8 years because I had no migraine and had vomiting all night (only at night) and abdominal pain. The neurologist did an electroencephalogram and found it was a migraine. I was put on doxepin for a year and that helped but then it didn't work so they finally put me on Klonopin and it went away but then in my 30's it changed to severe migraine and auras.
Avatar f tn Hi Mandy, Imitrex tablets have done wonders for my headaches/migraines. Fioricet didn't touch my pain but even if I take a half of an Imitrex tablet for the nasty headaches that aren't quite migraines yet, I feel so much better. I save a whole tablet or sometimes 2 tabs for the whopper migraines. Imitrex is in a class of medication known as sumatriptans and is not a narcotic. You definitely need insurance for it since it's expensive but the copays aren't bad at all.
Avatar f tn I am pretty loyal to Imitrex. But always at max dose of 200mg. There is a new drug from makers of Imitrex called Trixamet. It is Imitrex plus an NSAID. I got a sample from my doc. I loved it. Trixamet is supposed to be covered by any insurance that takes Imitrex, but mine doesn't cover it. Maybe yours will. Hope I helped.
341655 tn?1240368839 what is the difference between the imitrex injections and pills? Which is more effective and prescribed more?
1046692 tn?1255391835 Is it safe to take Lexapro and Imitrex? There is a warning on the package against this but I thought I would ask the professionals first.
518798 tn?1295212279 It's not addictive BUT I will say that I heard from a neurologist that if you take it too often, it can definitely cause a "rebound" situation. He said your body knows you are going to take it. I used to take it almost daily and after I heard this (that combined with the cost) I went cold turkey for about two weeks. I had some rough days but the headaches I did have were contained with ice, laying down, dark room, etc.
Avatar f tn so there is no reason to become an addict or to crave the medication, but ones body will still become highly dependent on the medication to a point that if you take the body off the medication abruptly you can cause seizures and even death... Imitrex is NOT like that!! Imitrex does not cause any sort of high or euphoria so you cannot become addicted to it, you will not "crave" it when you are not in pain...
635402 tn?1270162477 The new drug is to be called TREXIMET and according to the makers, was to be a vast improvement over Imitrex. Like Imitrex, it is made to be taken at the onset of a migraine, but is supposed to work faster and better to reduce migraine pain. GSK has spent several years and millions of dollars researching and "pre-marketing" Treximet in anticipation of FDA approval and product launch. So what's the deal? Is this really better than Imitrex alone?
Avatar f tn does either imitrex or maxalt contain caffeine? I was taking Maxalt for migraines and it worked great! Now my insurance has decided I need to try Imitrex before they will approve coverage for the Maxalt. The Imitrex took about 2 hours to have any effect, but eventually my headache subsided. Since then I have had recurring headaches for 4 days.
Avatar n tn I have been put on everything from narcotics (which I refuse and hate) to Beta Blockers. (Which Do help) Currently on Propanol. But my very FIRST and ONLY time using Imitrex Oral Capsule. I took the medication and I was sitting in my reclining chair and in about 15 mins I became paralyzed for 2.5-3 hours. I had no other medications in my system. I DO NOT use drugs or drink alcohol. Only Imitrex. My husband honestly thought I was joking. I could not lift my head.
561539 tn?1216438257 I took imitrex for the second time ever over the weekend. I stopped over 24 hours ago and still might right side of nose and face from cheek up is completely numb. the medicine should be out of my system by now. i have a regular md appt tomorrow because i'm scared. is it medicine damage (which should be out of my system) or is it migraine damage?
Avatar f tn Hello, I've had migraines (no aura, just spaciness and pain) for several years now and do well on imitrex. For the past few weeks I've experienced numbness on tongue and lips extending to the whole side of my face. This facial numbness has been going on for about a week. In the past couple of days my left eyelid is twitching and I sometimes have a blurry spot in my left eye. I'm not in any pain but I am uncomfortable and kind of anxious.

Anything, yes, anything - that changes your mood, alters your personality, or changes the way you feel, or sense pain - will, can and is addicting.
Avatar n tn Has anybody found relief from migraines? I've tried everything from herbs to Imitrex. Started having rebound headaches with the imitrex and hated taking it anyway.
Avatar f tn Hello. I've been suffering from sever migraines for years but recently they have gotten worse.. For a week now I've had a constant pain. Ive tried imitrex and that hadn't help. I took a pain med n it help for a little while. But the pain is back ten fold. Is that because of the pain med.? Any suggestions on migraine medications?
Avatar f tn Be careful with that chica! It is very addictive. It is a barbituate and if you do become dependent or addicted to it, you have to taper slowly off of it. Quitting cold turkey can be dangerous, and possibly cause seizures. Do some research on it before you even consider taking it. (Always a good idea with any drug. Doctors often neglect to tell you about side effects, etc.) Maybe talk to your doctor about an alternate treatment option. There are a TON out there. Good luck to you.
656111 tn?1273820739 Anyway, I am taking Imitrex for my migraines. Well, I had problem with script to fill Imitrex medicine couple years ago.... it only supplys 9 and only covers one any type of migraine medication PER month. When I ran out of it, I asked my doctor to give me script for more Imitrex and I dropped script off at Walgreens then few minutes later, pharmacist told me that insurance was not covering that...
706116 tn?1229191877 As far as the condom failures go, they have happened twice with CSW supplied condoms (I know not which brand) and once with ones I supplied, Trojan Magnums. I tend to have very vigorous intercourse with CSW's and that is what I attribute the breakage to. I am careful to never cause injury to my CSW partners, several of whom are regulars, and I never use any oil based lubricants. The only lube I use with a CSW is AstroGlide that I bring to the appointment so I know where it's been.
Avatar f tn I used to get so many migraines and I was taking imitrex injections. When I moved the migraines got worse from stress and I started taking the imitrex daily, sometimes even multiple times a day. After about 3 months of this I started getting heart palpitations. They got so bad that I stopped taking my imitrex (cold turkey) on the whim that it was causing them. The palpitations started getting worse, but I had now talked myself into having a fear of imitrex (that it would kill me).
1569579 tn?1299187685 Under the treatments for migraines why isn't Imitrex or Fioranal listed?
Avatar f tn I am having trouble determining whether my migraine medication, Imitrex, is one them. Sumitriptan and naproxen are not on the list, but since this drug narrows blood vessels, I wonder if it's best not to take it before surgery.
Avatar n tn I been getting migraines for about 8 years now. I am 26 yrs old. I get the pain in 1 spot on the right side of my forehead and a pain coming from the back of my neck at the same time. The only thing to help this go away is 100mg's of imitrex. I can't figure out what triggers these after all this time...I just wish there was a way I got a million tests such as mri's, catscans, medication to prevent them etc...I just wish they would go away forever i don't know what else to do..
Avatar n tn As far as OTC meds for migraines, I like Excedrine Migraine. For a prescription, there is Imitrex which can do wonders! Not an opiate, barbiturate or anything addictive! Hope that helps!
