Common Questions and Answers about Imitrex high

imitrex

Avatar m tn I am so glad that you asked about imitrex! I take a triptan, like imitrex, and personally I think that triptans are the best treatment for acute migraines, and they are also the most prescribed medication for acute migraines.
Avatar f tn I don't have much of a question, but wanted to introduce myself. I've periodically had migraines throughout my life, but they were never very often. However, that changed since I've been diagnosed with lupus and fibromyalgia (as well as other chronic pain issues). Especially since the fibro was discovered (about 15 years ago), my migraines have increased in frequency. The week before last, I had 3 in that week alone.
Avatar f tn so there is no reason to become an addict or to crave the medication, but ones body will still become highly dependent on the medication to a point that if you take the body off the medication abruptly you can cause seizures and even death... Imitrex is NOT like that!! Imitrex does not cause any sort of high or euphoria so you cannot become addicted to it, you will not "crave" it when you are not in pain...
518798 tn?1295212279 Imitrex is very hard on the system, gives you high blood pressure among other things. Yes it may stop being as effective if you take it regularly. My wife has had chronic migraines that do not go away for the past 7 years, although they vary in pain severity. She has used just about everything you can think of prescribed by several different doctors including injections into the lower back of the skull. Try having your Doctor rotate your meds every so often.
Avatar n tn I nee help. My mom is 45 and she has terrible headaches everyday. She takes Imitrex. She takes it everyday. She had bad headaches since 10 years ago, but now it's everyday that she has one. It's been like that for a month? What is wrong with her? I hope it's not some kind of tumor. Would migraine pill work for headache caused by tumor?
Avatar n tn Has anybody found relief from migraines? I've tried everything from herbs to Imitrex. Started having rebound headaches with the imitrex and hated taking it anyway.
341655 tn?1240368839 what is the difference between the imitrex injections and pills? Which is more effective and prescribed more?
1046692 tn?1255391835 Is it safe to take Lexapro and Imitrex? There is a warning on the package against this but I thought I would ask the professionals first.
1056589 tn?1273747102 If you suffer from some other types of medical conditions too, Imitrex should not be taken. Do not take Imitrex if you have underlying cardiovascular diseases, if you have uncontrolled hypertension, if you are taking MAO-A antidepressants or and do not take Imitrex if you have severe hepatic impairment.
435241 tn?1208575531 I would suggest you to take imitrex for few days and see if it helps. Imitrex is very helpful in migraine.
Avatar f tn does either imitrex or maxalt contain caffeine? I was taking Maxalt for migraines and it worked great! Now my insurance has decided I need to try Imitrex before they will approve coverage for the Maxalt. The Imitrex took about 2 hours to have any effect, but eventually my headache subsided. Since then I have had recurring headaches for 4 days.
Avatar f tn I am pretty loyal to Imitrex. But always at max dose of 200mg. There is a new drug from makers of Imitrex called Trixamet. It is Imitrex plus an NSAID. I got a sample from my doc. I loved it. Trixamet is supposed to be covered by any insurance that takes Imitrex, but mine doesn't cover it. Maybe yours will. Hope I helped.
1079216 tn?1258200805 Usually the bioavailability of a nasal spray will be higher than the bioavailability of a oral tablet, such as with the triptan Zomig, where the bioavailability of the oral tablets is 40% and the bioavailability of the nasal spray is 102% (when the bioavailability is higher than 100% it means that the medication by that route works better then it would by intravenous injection), although this sort of increase between oral administration and nasal administration is not the case with Imitrex.
Avatar f tn Hello. I've been suffering from sever migraines for years but recently they have gotten worse.. For a week now I've had a constant pain. Ive tried imitrex and that hadn't help. I took a pain med n it help for a little while. But the pain is back ten fold. Is that because of the pain med.? Any suggestions on migraine medications?
Avatar f tn I am so sorry for what you have been going through. I started having migraines when I was 23. They couldn't diagnose me for 8 years because I had no migraine and had vomiting all night (only at night) and abdominal pain. The neurologist did an electroencephalogram and found it was a migraine. I was put on doxepin for a year and that helped but then it didn't work so they finally put me on Klonopin and it went away but then in my 30's it changed to severe migraine and auras.
Avatar f tn I used to get so many migraines and I was taking imitrex injections. When I moved the migraines got worse from stress and I started taking the imitrex daily, sometimes even multiple times a day. After about 3 months of this I started getting heart palpitations. They got so bad that I stopped taking my imitrex (cold turkey) on the whim that it was causing them. The palpitations started getting worse, but I had now talked myself into having a fear of imitrex (that it would kill me).
1125820 tn?1265284446 The bioavailability of Imitrex tablets is pretty pathetic, honestly, so Imitrex Injection is VERY different then Imitrex tablets or Imitrex Nasal Spray. Also, which Maxalt did you try? Did you try the regular Maxalt tablets or the Maxalt-MLTs? The Maxalt-MLTs are the orally disintegrating tablets. The Maxalt-MLTs work better than the regular Maxalt tablets. If you haven't tried Maxalt-MLTs yet, I would suggest giving those a try too. Which Zomig did you try?
Avatar f tn Worked the past 3 days. Went well. The ups anddowns are tough but manageable. I have had very little cravings which is great. Emotionally uunstable. But it seems to get better each day. Main thing I am fighting now are these daily head aches. They get SO BAD. My blood pressure is not high. I take 800mg ibprofen and it doesn't even touch it. Any help or advice would be wonderful. Yay for 10 days clean. Proud of myself.
172336 tn?1202254641 m closing in on week 5 (did shot #4 last Friday) and my migraines seem to have gone away (for now. Still have my Imitrex handy tho). I had one start every morning for 9 days straight. Wasn't a great mommy last week! But, I went for my 4 wk pcr's yesterday and my HgB was 10, so I have to go next week so we can run the blood work again and see if I need to start Procrit. Are there sx from the Procrit I need to be aware of?
1569579 tn?1299187685 Under the treatments for migraines why isn't Imitrex or Fioranal listed?
Avatar f tn I am having trouble determining whether my migraine medication, Imitrex, is one them. Sumitriptan and naproxen are not on the list, but since this drug narrows blood vessels, I wonder if it's best not to take it before surgery.
397977 tn?1201264847 They run on my dads side of the family. They started in high school and I have been able to manage them but lately they have become debilitating. I changed birth control pills in October 2007 from Orthonovum to Yaz. I had been on Orthonovum for 20 plus years. The YAZ helped the PMS symptoms I was having really well but I would get terrible headaches at the beginning or end of my cycle.
635402 tn?1270162477 The new drug is to be called TREXIMET and according to the makers, was to be a vast improvement over Imitrex. Like Imitrex, it is made to be taken at the onset of a migraine, but is supposed to work faster and better to reduce migraine pain. GSK has spent several years and millions of dollars researching and "pre-marketing" Treximet in anticipation of FDA approval and product launch. So what's the deal? Is this really better than Imitrex alone?
