Imitrex half life

Common Questions and Answers about Imitrex half life

imitrex

Avatar f tn ve periodically had migraines throughout my life, but they were never very often. However, that changed since I've been diagnosed with lupus and fibromyalgia (as well as other chronic pain issues). Especially since the fibro was discovered (about 15 years ago), my migraines have increased in frequency. The week before last, I had 3 in that week alone.
Avatar m tn My very excellent neurologist told me that Frova and Amerge are the ONLY triptans that do not cause the rebound effect as they have more of a half-life. The other triptans can then be used once a week. NO over the counter pain meds like Advil- those cause rebounds too. My neuro gave me Ultram, which is a better choice for chronic and frequent headaches.
Avatar m tn Imitrex ALSO comes in a nasal spray and an injection. The imitrex tablet should work in HALF AN HOUR. The imitrex nasal spray can work in 10-20 minutes.... same with the injection pretty much. But, if you ever get a prescription for a triptan that is NOT imitrex, make sure that it is a quick dissolve tablet or a nasal spray... the only two nasal sprays I know of are imitrex and zomig (what I take) and the only quick dissolve tablets I know of are imitrex, zomig and maxalt.
561539 tn?1216438257 I took imitrex for the second time ever over the weekend. I stopped over 24 hours ago and still might right side of nose and face from cheek up is completely numb. the medicine should be out of my system by now. i have a regular md appt tomorrow because i'm scared. is it medicine damage (which should be out of my system) or is it migraine damage?
Avatar f tn The half-life of a drug is how long it takes for half of it to be eliminated from the bloodstream. Hope that helps.
6298176 tn?1380134459 It has a very long half life, though I can't give you specifics. The dose and how long you were on it does factor in. Your doctor should be able to help you with your questions on this.
518798 tn?1295212279 I am not at the point where I have a migraine headache 3-4 days per week. I take half and imitrex (to save cost) each time. There are occasions when the headache is so bad that I have to take it twice in a 12 hour period. My neurologist wants me to discontinue Imitrex due to the side effects associated with it at my age as well as the overuse. I don't know what to do anymore. Headaches are completely ruining my life. At least with the Imitrex I can somewhat function. Help!
Avatar f tn I used to get so many migraines and I was taking imitrex injections. When I moved the migraines got worse from stress and I started taking the imitrex daily, sometimes even multiple times a day. After about 3 months of this I started getting heart palpitations. They got so bad that I stopped taking my imitrex (cold turkey) on the whim that it was causing them. The palpitations started getting worse, but I had now talked myself into having a fear of imitrex (that it would kill me).
Avatar f tn Hi Mandy, Imitrex tablets have done wonders for my headaches/migraines. Fioricet didn't touch my pain but even if I take a half of an Imitrex tablet for the nasty headaches that aren't quite migraines yet, I feel so much better. I save a whole tablet or sometimes 2 tabs for the whopper migraines. Imitrex is in a class of medication known as sumatriptans and is not a narcotic. You definitely need insurance for it since it's expensive but the copays aren't bad at all.
Avatar f tn 2 days ago I started having stabbing shooting pain from my left skull base up my head about half way It happens randomly and makes my shoulders jerk a bit. I have had neck problems most of my life and see a chiropractor a few times a year for headachs. Did not help this time. Ibuprofen helps a little but not for long. I also have pain in ear and behind left eye. Please help if you can. I have no insurance and cant see a Doc. for something that is more than likely nothing.
1056589 tn?1273747102 If you suffer from some other types of medical conditions too, Imitrex should not be taken. Do not take Imitrex if you have underlying cardiovascular diseases, if you have uncontrolled hypertension, if you are taking MAO-A antidepressants or and do not take Imitrex if you have severe hepatic impairment.
Avatar n tn t take away the migraine but if I took one early enough, it might make it possible for me to go a bit longer before taking an Imitrex, thereby making the expensive Imitrex last longer. But, like you, I started taking them too often. Luckily, I have a doctor who does not like to prescribe pain pills so he shut me down. Then my new doctor refuses to prescribe them. So I haven't taken them for years. I am so sorry that you have this problem. Migraines are not something I would wish on anyone.

535882 tn?1396576685 whats the half life for syntriod. about how much time does it take to build up in you and also leave your system?
Avatar f tn I am so sorry for what you have been going through. I started having migraines when I was 23. They couldn't diagnose me for 8 years because I had no migraine and had vomiting all night (only at night) and abdominal pain. The neurologist did an electroencephalogram and found it was a migraine. I was put on doxepin for a year and that helped but then it didn't work so they finally put me on Klonopin and it went away but then in my 30's it changed to severe migraine and auras.

Avatar f tn Your situation sounds similar to mine. I take Keppra, an anticonvulsant, Vivactil, an antidepressant and Inderal, Blood pressure medication to prevent headaches. I still suffer almost daily headaches. When I take 50 mg of Imitrex (daily) the headache is gone within an hour. Dr. says I take too much Imitrex, but without it I am curled up in a fetal position, in a dark, quiet room, trying not to move for 12 hours... I am so worried that the Dr.
1817265 tn?1317302747 I also suffer from migraines & used to take Maxalt. When I was pregnant with my 1st, the dr prescribed Imitrex & I've been taking it since. I take 1/2 a pill & if it doesn't work (which it does most of the time), then I take the other half. You are supposed to take it at the onset of a migraine otherwise it gets so bad that the meds are not as effective. Talk to your dr ASAP! And congratulations on your blessing!!!
Avatar n tn Has anybody found relief from migraines? I've tried everything from herbs to Imitrex. Started having rebound headaches with the imitrex and hated taking it anyway.
341655 tn?1240368839 what is the difference between the imitrex injections and pills? Which is more effective and prescribed more?
1046692 tn?1255391835 Is it safe to take Lexapro and Imitrex? There is a warning on the package against this but I thought I would ask the professionals first.
Avatar f tn IMITREX (SUMATRIPAN) TWICE DAILY FOR 2 TO 4 YEARS (VS) OmyGosh..I'm Margie. Many years ago, I had chronic migrains. Bad ones that were debiliating to my marriage and career. For years, I used the nasel or pill form of Imitrex. I, at the time in my life, was also going through a bunch of "Garbage" as I call it.. e.i., multiple tragedies back to back. I believed, at the time, that the onslaught of such stress was the reason for my memory loss in my years of 41-52ish.
