Imitrex get you high

Common Questions and Answers about Imitrex get you high

imitrex

Avatar m tn I am so glad that you asked about imitrex! I take a triptan, like imitrex, and personally I think that triptans are the best treatment for acute migraines, and they are also the most prescribed medication for acute migraines.
Avatar f tn also, if someone offered you a medication that worked as well as Imitrex, you would probably use it when you were in pain as a substitute for Imitrex... which all shows that Imitrex is in no way addictive. As for physical dependency... well, I have heard of the triptan Maxalt causing rebound headaches, which could be considered a type of physical dependency maybe... but, out of all of the triptans, the ONLY triptan that has shown this is Maxalt, not Imitrex.
Avatar f tn im checking it out tomorrow. hope you get better and thank you for taking time out of your life to talk to me.
518798 tn?1295212279 I was wondering if like many other headache and migraine medication. Do you get immune to Imitrex (quits working because you get used to them) I'd greatly appreciate any feedback thanks a bunch . . Jim B.
Avatar n tn I have a friend that has dealt with debilitating migraines all of her life and she swears that the prescription drug Maxalt is the only thing that is effective for her and she has tried many medications including imitrex. She told me they are dissolvable tablets such that if you get sick and vomit, you won't vomit up the medication. I will get a migraine headache every once in a blue moon and I take the regular OTC stuff for it.
Avatar n tn Taking imitrex daily is likely setting her up for rebound headaches. I didn't take it daily, but experienced rebound headache before after taking imitrex. If she has not had an MRI (or CT scan) of her brain, her doctor should be ordering one to try to rule out brain tumor, aneurysm, or anything else that might cause headaches. You won't know if it's something like that until you test- so please urge her to get the pictures of her brain!
1056589 tn?1273747102 Do not take Imitrex if you have underlying cardiovascular diseases, if you have uncontrolled hypertension, if you are taking MAO-A antidepressants or and do not take Imitrex if you have severe hepatic impairment. It is not suggested that you take Imitrex at the same time as any other prescription acute migraine medication such as another triptan or any ergot-type medication (ergot medications were the first line of acute therapy in migraine headache prior to the invention of triptans).
1046692 tn?1255391835 While I appreciate you thinking we are "experts," we aren't. We are NOT doctors or psychiatrists and none of us have inititals after our names like "MD," or "PHD." We are just like you...........perhaps with a few more years of experiencing theses nasty disorders, but definitely NOT experts! I would hesitate to take these meds until you HAVE consulted the "real professionals," who are the DOCTORS who perscribed these meds for you.
768044 tn?1294223436 t feel as afraid anymore now that I at least have the Imitrex Injection to try next time I get one of those really scary migraines and even if it doesn't work I still have the hospital as my back up plan but it's just nice to know that I at least have something at home that might work now. Has anyone else here tried Imitrex Injection? How did you find using the injection pen? Was it easy to learn how to use? Did you find it worked better then the other triptans?
Avatar f tn I agree Maxalt seems to be the better drug especially the MLT version as it gets into the blood stream much quicker. If after few more tries with Imitrex you don't find relief, ask your Doctor for a letter stating you failed to obtain relief with Imitrex and request that your prescription carrier allow you to continue with Maxalt. That should help you.
341655 tn?1240368839 what is the difference between the imitrex injections and pills? Which is more effective and prescribed more?
Avatar f tn I feel so bad for you. I have never taken imitrex. I very rarely get migraines. If you busy your self with something mindless for about 1/2 hour, like tv or, reading something, see if symptoms temporarily subside. If you can get your mind off it, and on to something else, and pain goes away, its anxiety. Try a xanax. If xanax works, its anxiety. Keep me posted.
435241 tn?1208575531 I would suggest you to take imitrex for few days and see if it helps. Imitrex is very helpful in migraine.
Avatar f tn Hi & CONGRATULATIONS on 10 days! Its GREAT to see you pushing forward. About a month or (maybe a little longer) ago I started getting debilitating headaches. After many tests it was found that they are caused from stress & anxiety. I didn't think it would have been stress because I am dealing with everything going on but apparently STRESS can really make you physically sick. I don't know if this applies to you but it's a thought??
172336 tn?1202254641 About the migraines, I suffer them and have put off treating because of them. Did you get them before you started treatment? if so how often? how many mg imitrex do you use? I use it, cut 100mg to aprox. 40mg and works like a charm 99% of the time. Is it working with treatment? Are you on an AD? There has been a warning issued about combining imitrex with ADs.
Avatar n tn Congrats to you! The fiorinal is not an opiate but still very addictive. Also, not something you can safely detox from on your own. The caffeine and barbiturate is what makes it effective for H/A's. As far as OTC meds for migraines, I like Excedrine Migraine. For a prescription, there is Imitrex which can do wonders! Not an opiate, barbiturate or anything addictive! Hope that helps!
768044 tn?1294223436 It is important to stop the headaches so that you do not get stuck in a pain cycle. It is much more likely that you are stuck in a pain cycle than a rebound headache cycle right now. I would suggest taking your triptans at the very first sign of the headaches and take them as needed. Do not be afraid to take your triptans! If you are getting more than 15 headaches a month... and 4 headaches a week sounds like more than 15 a month! Then, preventative medications could be an option.
Avatar f tn I am so sorry for what you have been going through. I started having migraines when I was 23. They couldn't diagnose me for 8 years because I had no migraine and had vomiting all night (only at night) and abdominal pain. The neurologist did an electroencephalogram and found it was a migraine. I was put on doxepin for a year and that helped but then it didn't work so they finally put me on Klonopin and it went away but then in my 30's it changed to severe migraine and auras.
518798 tn?1295212279 Make sure you keep a close eye on it. I would get to the doctor right away if you start getting the headaches again. Feel better soon.
Avatar m tn Ric is right. Imitrex is not addictive. Have you tried botox for migraines? I have friends that have had AMAZING success with that.
397977 tn?1201264847 t always fully there because I was battling a migraine and believe me I have missed important events to. You know what I mean if you get migraines to. Anyway, this is just an option to talk to your doctor about. I'm not a doctor and certainly not the best patient because I hate taking medication. I do plan to ask on monday, why he prescribed amitryptaline over Topamax, they are 2 very different medications.
507619 tn?1211845850 I use the Imitrex nasal spray and it gets rid of my headaches with no euphoria or narcotic "haze".
