Avatar m tn since all your investigations are coming postive and no obvious etiology is detected, it is easier to understand that, the symptoms are showing are due to migraine headaches. 507619 tn?1211845850 there are very specific migraine meds out there if you have TRUE migraines (imitrex, relpax, all that kinda stuff)....i got started on the hydros due to chronic daily tension headaches but never really used the hydros for my migraines....only used the prescribed migraine med....just don't try to convince yourself that the codeine/hydros are working to take away your migraines....cuz they really aren't....that's what all the imitrex, etc. is for and it works soooooooo much better!
Avatar f tn Hi Headaches at the back of the head may have occipital neuralgia, cervicogenic headaches, tension type headaches and migraine headaches as differentials. A scan of the cervical spine will be able to assess if an underlying disorder of the cervical spine may be contributing to the pain. Cervicogenic headaches may also refer pain to the face. Arthritic or musculoskeletal causes have to be ruled out. Occipital neuralgia usually occurs after a mechanical injury to the head or neck.
Avatar f tn Hi, Thank you for the question. For persistent headaches, possibilities like migrainous, cluster, tension and refractive errors that need to be evaluated thoroughly with the help of a neurologist here. Migraine like headache can be throbbing, one sided of face & head and preceded by aura (starts with blurred vision). Cluster headache may appear as burning, explosive in nature and tear appears from eyes. Tension headache originates with stress and anxiety disorder.
Avatar n tn In some cases, there are occurrences of combination of the other primary headaches. Migraine may be combined with tension headaches or may develop neurological symptoms. Tension headache, in particular presents with dull constant pain. Rest, ice packs, medications, avoidance of trigger, and relaxation techniques such as biofeedback, may help provide relief. If it persists, you may need to have this checked by your doctor for proper evaluation. Take care and do keep us posted.
Avatar n tn i was informed by the chiropractor that the headaches i was getting was called tension headaches. and so i decided not to continue the chiropractic therapy and since then i noticed that i started to get the headaches regularly, most of the time, before my menses. my pain threshold is low and since my headaches come with nausea and vomiting, i have no other choice but to take orphenadrine citrate as soon as i notice the beginning signs of my headache.
Avatar m tn But, it was actually tension headaches. You may want to get a script for something like Imitrex and try it. I will tell you that for most people, the headaches go away in a month or so. So, try and just tough it out.
Avatar n tn yes. i have tension headaches that turn into migranes and was told that was fine. if you have any questions though you need to call and ask your doc or even you pharmacy can tell you.
Avatar f tn I know I have Imitrex and I'm on Topamax for preventative. This is more tension than migraine...it's almost as painful, but different type of pain. And the Imitrex only works if it's a true migraine and I've wasted the last 3 Imitrex hoping it would help, and those suckers aren't cheap!!! But I REALLY appreciate the advice....I really do.
Avatar f tn Hi Mandy, Imitrex tablets have done wonders for my headaches/migraines. Fioricet didn't touch my pain but even if I take a half of an Imitrex tablet for the nasty headaches that aren't quite migraines yet, I feel so much better. I save a whole tablet or sometimes 2 tabs for the whopper migraines. Imitrex is in a class of medication known as sumatriptans and is not a narcotic. You definitely need insurance for it since it's expensive but the copays aren't bad at all.
Avatar n tn Hi, I have a hard lump on the back of my head, right above the hairline on my left side. It has been there for 2+ months and is bigger than before. I've had issues with headaches and other issues with dizziness/nausea. The other day, I felt like I was going to pass out, almost like low blood pressure? My level of tiredness has increased rapidly. I'm always tired. It is starting to affect my work and school.
Avatar f tn also, if someone offered you a medication that worked as well as Imitrex, you would probably use it when you were in pain as a substitute for Imitrex... which all shows that Imitrex is in no way addictive. As for physical dependency... well, I have heard of the triptan Maxalt causing rebound headaches, which could be considered a type of physical dependency maybe... but, out of all of the triptans, the ONLY triptan that has shown this is Maxalt, not Imitrex.
Avatar n tn For 5 months now i have been suffering with headaches on the top of my head, allways in the same area,i have no problems with vision..The headache started very badly one morning and i vomited 15 times in 3 hours,i had to rush to the doctors to get a pain killing injection..Since this episode i have moderate headaches everyday, if the pain increases the nausea starts.does anybody have any idea what could be causing this?i am now being sent to a nerologist.

Avatar f tn To say that I am confused and angry is an understatement! For $250 he told me that I have mixed migraines/tension headaches and to reduce my stress and that my migraines would improve or lessen. He then told me that he would not "keep pumping out rx's for imitrex" and that my personality had a lot to do with my condition he actually said to me: "who made you this way?
Avatar f tn Sinusitis, refractive errors of the eye, migraine, cluster headaches, brain tumors, high blood pressure, temporal arteritis, pinched cervical spinal nerve, tension headaches, poor or disturbed sleep etc are several causes of headaches. Dental pain and ear ache can cause similar symptoms. Please consult a headache and migraine specialist to rule out these causes one by one. Take care!
3102503 tn?1341318713 My husband gets headaches (not migraines, but headaches) almost everyday from allergies too. I noticed that days that I am stressed or upset, my teeth tend to clench (or if i cry i get them too because of the muscle tension), and that always results in a migraine either than night and into the next day or starting the next day. I would suggest to try your best to note things that happen in your day-to-day activities to see if they may correlate at all with your migraines.
Avatar n tn I have never experienced an aura-I usually get the pain on one side(usually my left) that generates to behind my left eye. The headaches pretty much incapacitate me- I am nauseated-feel dizzy-overall malaise. Imitrex and 3 excedrin usually helped. In the past 2 years my vision has worsened- I have gone from 20/20 to 20/50 and 20/60- with Left eye being worse. The eye doctor does not see anything in particular in the eye exam and attributes it to my age (again Im only 28??).
Avatar f tn Usually triptans like Imitrex or Maxalt are given for migraines and work very well. Usually the Fiorinal is given for tension headaces. Good luck and I hope you can find the perfect medication for you.
Avatar n tn Sharp shooting pains are seen in trigeminal neuralgia whereas pressure headaches are mainly associated with tension headaches. Do consult doctor for investigations. Please visit website http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Headache for more information.
Avatar f tn Im now on Butorphanol spray, demerol, ativan and sleeping pills, all for pain management, ,i have also been on preventatives for years,i have not worked for 20 yrs from my intense migraines. Although Imitrex im sure works for alot of people which is great if your body reacts well to it, unfortunately for me it didnt. Wishing you well in your journey.
411939 tn?1281598444 Thank you for your replies! I am half American Indian and the other half is mainly German. My "family history" on both sides only goes back three generations before me as my great grandparents were removed from Nebraska and my German ancestors are immigrants (I believe). Nobody that I, or my mom, can think of has a history of migraines in these three generations - immediate AND extended family. My dad, who died a few years ago, was adopted and his biological mom is uncooperative.
Avatar f tn I do suffer from GAD and have a hx of migraines/tension headaches. For the past few months I have been under a lot of stress and I have noticed an increase in migraines ( going from once or twice a month to once or twice a week). I went to my doctor and she told me that the migraines were due to stress and prescribed a muscle relaxer and Imitrex. The migraines have reduced since then.
