Taking imitrex daily is likely setting her up for rebound headaches. I didn't take it daily, but experienced rebound headache before after taking imitrex. If she has not had an MRI (or CT scan) of her brain, her doctor should be ordering one to try to rule out brain tumor, aneurysm, or anything else that might cause headaches. You won't know if it's something like that until you test- so please urge her to get the pictures of her brain!

Im now on Butorphanol spray, demerol, ativan and sleeping pills, all for pain management, ,i have also been on preventatives for years,i have not worked for 20 yrs from my intense migraines. Although Imitrex im sure works for alot of people which is great if your body reacts well to it, unfortunately for me it didnt. Wishing you well in your journey.

I have always had this pain due to a car accident, my doctors have me on propolanol to take in the morning to prevent my headaches, and imitrex for when I do get them, but lately nothing is cutting it. Now with my headache, everytime I take a step when I am walking or turn my head I get very dizzy and light headed. Sunday night was so bad I had to take 2 imitrex and that didnt work, a pain pill, nothing seemed to help, all I could do was cry.

Yes, i also had them...I am not sure if I had them due to detox or not, because i have had them off and on since i was 16...The only medicine that works for me is imitrex...It is non-narcotic..Also i use phenegan so i don't throw it up...I hope you get something to help!!

I have placed a call to my OBGYN in desperation seeking relief. Could a spinal headache occur and appear 7 days after the epidural was administered?

of all migraines hit me about 2pm. When I got home I took a 10mg Imitrex tablet and laid down. Now these Imitrex tablets make me very sleepy so once the headache began to fade I went soundly asleep around 6pm and slept until 6am. Since I skipped dinner last night I was quite weak this morning until I ate breakfast. I only took one 10mg norco tablet during this time as I am on my "taper" schedule. I was quite proud of myself.

I, for one, did get the headache. It was the absolute worst pain I've ever felt in my life!!!! That being said, the probability of the headache is very small, I think I was told by my neuro <5%. The procedure itself is nothing at all! The worst part was the lidocaine injection and that just felt like a little bee sting. It is totally worth getting the LP, as that may be the nail that you need to drill your dx.

also, if someone offered you a medication that worked as well as Imitrex, you would probably use it when you were in pain as a substitute for Imitrex... which all shows that Imitrex is in no way addictive. As for physical dependency... well, I have heard of the triptan Maxalt causing rebound headaches, which could be considered a type of physical dependency maybe... but, out of all of the triptans, the ONLY triptan that has shown this is Maxalt, not Imitrex.

Hi Mel98233 If you know that the headache is a migraine, take your imitrex RIGHT away, even if there is no aura. Advil will usually do nothing for a migraine headache, like you have found out for yourself, and will very often make a migraine headache much worse. Imitrex on the other hand is migraine medication and will stop a migraine. Advil is not migraine medication and can cause problems by making headaches worse.

I am taking an epilepsy pill that she said would take 4-6 weeks to kick in to help me and I have imitrex for sudden migraines. I find it hard to believe that my symptoms are all related to migraines when two other doctors have told me that the lesions on my brain are consistent with MS yet this neurologist says that chronic migraines can also leave lesions on the brain. As my symptoms get worse, I don't want to wait too long for this medicine to kick in. Any thoughts?

Not all triptans are made with the same ingredients and so not all triptans will have the same side-effects. For example, Imitrex is the only triptan that is also a Sulfa drug (many people have Sulfa allergies). Imitrex is known to cause the side-effect you mentioned in some people, the severe heart palpitations.

does either imitrex or maxalt contain caffeine? I was taking Maxalt for migraines and it worked great! Now my insurance has decided I need to try Imitrex before they will approve coverage for the Maxalt. The Imitrex took about 2 hours to have any effect, but eventually my headache subsided. Since then I have had recurring headaches for 4 days.

Good Morning guys! I woke up with another migraine this morning. This is the 3rd one this month. I usually have about 2 in a year, but never this close together and this often. I have been taking 1 imitrex when I have a headache. My question is, "Is Imitrex habit-forming?" I have researched all the websites, but they also say that ultram isn't habit forming. I was just wanting some info from someone who has taken it.

t get imitrex tablets, get the imitrex or generic nasal spray or imitrex or generic injection OR treximex tablets but NOT imitrex tablets. - Zolmitriptan. brand name Zomig. this is what i use. (although i have used all of them at some point) don't get the tablets... like imitrex, the tablets don't work. But, the nasal spray DOES work incredibly well and this is what is usually prescribed anyway. - Almotriptan. brand name Axert. a very powerful triptan tablet.

I have had this throbbing headache for almost 8 days now. I went to the ER yesterday. They said it was a cold and gave me some prescriptions after determining that it wasn't meningitis. Now the only symptom I have had of this "cold" is a headache. Last night I could barely walk it was so bad. I just dont see how I could have a cold but the only symptom after 7 days is a headache. However, I did get one pair of glasses that does not give me a headache but they are only for distance vision. I bought a new pair of progressive lenses, but they give me a terrible headache. I have had them adjusted several times and it hasn't gotten any better. Can the length of the earpieces make a difference? The glasses that don't hurt have shorter earpieces. I am desperate! I can't find anything that works to help me see. Does anyone have a solution?

Hypothyroidism, hypoparathyroidism, adrenal insufficiency are a few things I would recommend you get investigated for. These can precipitate BIH.
