Avatar m tn I am so glad that you asked about imitrex! I take a triptan, like imitrex, and personally I think that triptans are the best treatment for acute migraines, and they are also the most prescribed medication for acute migraines.
2124631 tn?1335166144 Flushing, sensations of tingling/numbness/prickling/heat, weakness, drowsiness, or dizziness may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor or pharmacist promptly.Remember that your doctor has prescribed this medication because he or she has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects.Chest/jaw/neck tightness can commonly occur shortly after using sumatriptan.
635402 tn?1270162477 The new drug is to be called TREXIMET and according to the makers, was to be a vast improvement over Imitrex. Like Imitrex, it is made to be taken at the onset of a migraine, but is supposed to work faster and better to reduce migraine pain. GSK has spent several years and millions of dollars researching and "pre-marketing" Treximet in anticipation of FDA approval and product launch. So what's the deal? Is this really better than Imitrex alone?
Avatar f tn I don't have much of a question, but wanted to introduce myself. I've periodically had migraines throughout my life, but they were never very often. However, that changed since I've been diagnosed with lupus and fibromyalgia (as well as other chronic pain issues). Especially since the fibro was discovered (about 15 years ago), my migraines have increased in frequency. The week before last, I had 3 in that week alone.
Avatar f tn After taking 100mg of Imitrex for my migraines, within 3 hours after I usually feel all of a sudden kind of "out of it". I am just really "slow" feeling and neutral in personality unlike usual. Is this typical? Why does it do this?
Avatar n tn It feels like a very dull pressure under my eyebrow near the nose, and it starts following the ocular headache and is constant thereafter. Also, I feel like it mildly effects the vision in my right eye long term. I saw an eye doctor about this, and she said she didn't find any blind spots in the test she did, but it feels as if the right eye no longer receives as much light as the left - almost as if I'm looking through a barrel or something.
Avatar m tn I take Imitrex when I get them, and it usually works great, but today I have taken the maximum dose on my Rx for a 24 hr. period (200 mg) and it's still not gone. I am wondering if I went to the ER, is there something else they could do -- could they give me more Imitrex, or another triptan or something else to try to stop it? I don't want opiates. Any thoughts appreciated.
Avatar m tn played little league. I do take Imitrex for the Migraines (I have 4 sisters who also deal with Migraines so obviously hereditary). My question is, is there anything I can take before playing tennis or after to alleviate the migraines. Sometimes the Imitrex helps tremendously & sometimes it takes more the one 50 mg pill.
561539 tn?1216438257 I took imitrex for the second time ever over the weekend. I stopped over 24 hours ago and still might right side of nose and face from cheek up is completely numb. the medicine should be out of my system by now. i have a regular md appt tomorrow because i'm scared. is it medicine damage (which should be out of my system) or is it migraine damage?
1103688 tn?1257894552 Not all triptans are made with the same ingredients and so not all triptans will have the same side-effects. For example, Imitrex is the only triptan that is also a Sulfa drug (many people have Sulfa allergies). Imitrex is known to cause the side-effect you mentioned in some people, the severe heart palpitations.
1125820 tn?1265284446 The bioavailability of Imitrex tablets is pretty pathetic, honestly, so Imitrex Injection is VERY different then Imitrex tablets or Imitrex Nasal Spray. Also, which Maxalt did you try? Did you try the regular Maxalt tablets or the Maxalt-MLTs? The Maxalt-MLTs are the orally disintegrating tablets. The Maxalt-MLTs work better than the regular Maxalt tablets. If you haven't tried Maxalt-MLTs yet, I would suggest giving those a try too. Which Zomig did you try?
Avatar f tn Be careful with that chica! It is very addictive. It is a barbituate and if you do become dependent or addicted to it, you have to taper slowly off of it. Quitting cold turkey can be dangerous, and possibly cause seizures. Do some research on it before you even consider taking it. (Always a good idea with any drug. Doctors often neglect to tell you about side effects, etc.) Maybe talk to your doctor about an alternate treatment option. There are a TON out there. Good luck to you.
435241 tn?1208575531 I would suggest you to take imitrex for few days and see if it helps. Imitrex is very helpful in migraine.
518798 tn?1295212279 My neurologist wants me to discontinue Imitrex due to the side effects associated with it at my age as well as the overuse. I don't know what to do anymore. Headaches are completely ruining my life. At least with the Imitrex I can somewhat function. Help!

Anything, yes, anything - that changes your mood, alters your personality, or changes the way you feel, or sense pain - will, can and is addicting.
Avatar f tn He was put on topamax and imitrex for migraines which are supposedly unrelated and are what sent us to the neurologist in the first place. Migraines continue, some tingling in hands and feet, which is likely the topamax. However, today he had a migraine (been on topamax just over three weeks). Once it wore off I took him to school. Got a call form the nurse about an hour later saying that he blanked on his math test, couldn't remember anything they worked on in the last week or so.
Avatar f tn I want to know why the medical community is not made to go over all possible side effects with the patients before they are given the medication? If he had told me of the HORRIBLE effects I would never have taken it.
591470 tn?1218975186 Have you tried Imitrex tabs or the Imitrex shot. When I was taking a course of chemo I had the worst migraines ever and the Imitrex really helped me. It gave me slight light headedness but well worth the side effects. It is by prescription. If you haven't tried it.....give it is shot. It might help.
341655 tn?1240368839 what is the difference between the imitrex injections and pills? Which is more effective and prescribed more?
1046692 tn?1255391835 Is it safe to take Lexapro and Imitrex? There is a warning on the package against this but I thought I would ask the professionals first.
Avatar n tn t get imitrex tablets, get the imitrex or generic nasal spray or imitrex or generic injection OR treximex tablets but NOT imitrex tablets. - Zolmitriptan. brand name Zomig. this is what i use. (although i have used all of them at some point) don't get the tablets... like imitrex, the tablets don't work. But, the nasal spray DOES work incredibly well and this is what is usually prescribed anyway. - Almotriptan. brand name Axert. a very powerful triptan tablet.
Avatar f tn does either imitrex or maxalt contain caffeine? I was taking Maxalt for migraines and it worked great! Now my insurance has decided I need to try Imitrex before they will approve coverage for the Maxalt. The Imitrex took about 2 hours to have any effect, but eventually my headache subsided. Since then I have had recurring headaches for 4 days.
314128 tn?1226857620 Have you tried Imitrex, either on 100mg pills or injections for the migraine? To me it works wonders, combined w/a daily pill of Depakote ER 500mg to prevent migraines, they will occur less often.
Avatar m tn Are you sure it's a migraine? I have migraines and thought withdrawals triggered them, too. But, it was actually tension headaches. You may want to get a script for something like Imitrex and try it. I will tell you that for most people, the headaches go away in a month or so. So, try and just tough it out.
Avatar f tn I am so sorry for what you have been going through. I started having migraines when I was 23. They couldn't diagnose me for 8 years because I had no migraine and had vomiting all night (only at night) and abdominal pain. The neurologist did an electroencephalogram and found it was a migraine. I was put on doxepin for a year and that helped but then it didn't work so they finally put me on Klonopin and it went away but then in my 30's it changed to severe migraine and auras.
20841174 tn?1531305522 t take Tylenol or Ibuprofen too often or Imitrex (triptans) they can cause migraine rebound headaches. I took Trokendi XR for 3 years due to migraine variant but it has very bad side effects. I am trying to get off of it. I have one month to go. I take clonazempam for my vomiting at night it is a benzodiazepine, and then when I started getting the headaches I took imitrex. My neurologist said I can take 100mg. So I would ask a neurologist to see what they think is good for you.
