Imitrex during pregnancy

Common Questions and Answers about Imitrex during pregnancy

imitrex

Avatar m tn I am so glad that you asked about imitrex! I take a triptan, like imitrex, and personally I think that triptans are the best treatment for acute migraines, and they are also the most prescribed medication for acute migraines.
Avatar m tn Our son passed away gtom the use of Topamax during our pregnancy and our current pregnancy our daughter is being affected again.. so the answer is yes.
Avatar n tn Ask your doctor for Imitrex 100mg, is not narcotic, non addictive and it takes away your migraine right away. I'm also a migraine surferer and have tried a lot of medications and Imitrex works wonders.
Avatar f tn I don't have much of a question, but wanted to introduce myself. I've periodically had migraines throughout my life, but they were never very often. However, that changed since I've been diagnosed with lupus and fibromyalgia (as well as other chronic pain issues). Especially since the fibro was discovered (about 15 years ago), my migraines have increased in frequency. The week before last, I had 3 in that week alone.
Avatar n tn t offer any comments regarding pain management during your pregnancy. I would think and hope that what has been prescribed to you by your OB is safe and harmless for you and baby. I do wish you a healthy and uneventful remainder of your pregnancy, and please keep us posted.
1056589 tn?1273747102 If you suffer from some other types of medical conditions too, Imitrex should not be taken. Do not take Imitrex if you have underlying cardiovascular diseases, if you have uncontrolled hypertension, if you are taking MAO-A antidepressants or and do not take Imitrex if you have severe hepatic impairment.
Avatar n tn I'm not a doctor, but every time I get a migraine, which I've been getting for 16 years, I've noticed that during the most severe migraines, I'm very nauseous and even thrown up...which made my migraine so bad, that I had to got o the hospital for pain meds. The only medicine that got rid of my migraine (and the nausea) was Imitrex. I've even gotten the imitrex shot. Have you tried Imitrex?
Avatar f tn If you are vomiting blood you need to go to the er like asap. I have had migraines since I was 6 years old and they have just gotten worse with pregnancy. What did the dr put you on? There are very few things we can take right now.
Avatar f tn For the past 3 or more years the are real bad befroe during and after menstral time. Is there anyone else that goes through this? If so is there anything that you are doing that helps?
Avatar f tn I used to get so many migraines and I was taking imitrex injections. When I moved the migraines got worse from stress and I started taking the imitrex daily, sometimes even multiple times a day. After about 3 months of this I started getting heart palpitations. They got so bad that I stopped taking my imitrex (cold turkey) on the whim that it was causing them. The palpitations started getting worse, but I had now talked myself into having a fear of imitrex (that it would kill me).
Avatar f tn My dr recently told me that they are changing one of my meds from lortab to norco, same dosage but less acetaminophen. They also said they would be changing from 3x to 4x per day. I had a migraine during visit and wasn't thinking very clearly, so I didn't think to ask why the increase. I will ask this during my next visit, but in the meantime am wondering if anyone had had a similar situation or may offer any info. Thank you and best wishes for a great day.
709686 tn?1277432159 of all migraines hit me about 2pm. When I got home I took a 10mg Imitrex tablet and laid down. Now these Imitrex tablets make me very sleepy so once the headache began to fade I went soundly asleep around 6pm and slept until 6am. Since I skipped dinner last night I was quite weak this morning until I ate breakfast. I only took one 10mg norco tablet during this time as I am on my "taper" schedule. I was quite proud of myself.
Avatar n tn t get imitrex tablets, get the imitrex or generic nasal spray or imitrex or generic injection OR treximex tablets but NOT imitrex tablets. - Zolmitriptan. brand name Zomig. this is what i use. (although i have used all of them at some point) don't get the tablets... like imitrex, the tablets don't work. But, the nasal spray DOES work incredibly well and this is what is usually prescribed anyway. - Almotriptan. brand name Axert. a very powerful triptan tablet.
341655 tn?1240368839 what is the difference between the imitrex injections and pills? Which is more effective and prescribed more?
1046692 tn?1255391835 Is it safe to take Lexapro and Imitrex? There is a warning on the package against this but I thought I would ask the professionals first.
518798 tn?1295212279 Masteele - I found this thread (even if it's old, who cares?) and got a lot from your post to it. I have really bad PMS and migraine headaches a few or so days before. I recently got an Rx for Imitrex and not only did it get rid of my migraine, it also gave me some unexpected energy, alterness, and a slight high combined with my pain meds for Fibromyalgia. Nothing has pulled me out of a bad PMS slump with extreme fatigue and feeling like I am being poisoned by my hormones like Imitrex.
Avatar n tn I have the EXACT same thing. I've tried Imitrex tablets (no help since I threw them up), Imitrex Nasel Spray (once again, no help because I threw it up), Imitrex Injection (have you tried this? I couldn't keep taking because of an allergic reaction). Another good option is Relpax. It is a tablet BUT one of the benifits is that it helps with vomiting also. I did fine on this and I'm a huge vomiter (yuck, lack of a better word). Sure wish I had insurance still...
557111 tn?1219712047 m on day 11, free from percs, and for the last 2 days I have been having really bad migrains. Has anyone else had migraines during their detox? Thanks in advance for the replys...
397977 tn?1201264847 Almost 26 had my first baby, only had one or 2 migraines during my pregnancy. Then during labor (huge change in hormones) I had a mega migraine in the hospital. Then slipped back into my monthly migraines plus in between and heavier periods. Had my second baby at age 29 and started getting heavier and heavier periods and migraine after migraine. Finally, so heavy I became anemic and they wanted to put me back on birth control. I reluctantly tried it, I was asking for a hysterectomy.

Avatar f tn does either imitrex or maxalt contain caffeine? I was taking Maxalt for migraines and it worked great! Now my insurance has decided I need to try Imitrex before they will approve coverage for the Maxalt. The Imitrex took about 2 hours to have any effect, but eventually my headache subsided. Since then I have had recurring headaches for 4 days.

Avatar f tn The drugs that normally would be prescribed to anyone coming off of opiates (valium, xanax, klonopin etc.) are EXTREMELY UNSAFE at any time during your pregnancy. They are all a category X and can and most likely will cause defects or brain activity reduction. So you need to make sure that when you wean that you do it slowly and carefully so that your body does not go through too much stress.
Avatar m tn played little league. I do take Imitrex for the Migraines (I have 4 sisters who also deal with Migraines so obviously hereditary). My question is, is there anything I can take before playing tennis or after to alleviate the migraines. Sometimes the Imitrex helps tremendously & sometimes it takes more the one 50 mg pill.
20922415 tn?1661860103 During the reproductive years, the pituitary gland in the brain generates hormones (follicle-stimulating hormone [FSH] and luteinizing hormone [LH]) that cause a new egg to mature and be released from its ovarian follicle each month. As the follicle develops, it produces the sex hormones estrogen and progesterone, which thicken the lining of the uterus called the endometrium.
Avatar f tn so there is no reason to become an addict or to crave the medication, but ones body will still become highly dependent on the medication to a point that if you take the body off the medication abruptly you can cause seizures and even death... Imitrex is NOT like that!! Imitrex does not cause any sort of high or euphoria so you cannot become addicted to it, you will not "crave" it when you are not in pain...
