imitrex

18524847 tn?1465595901 I've had migraines on and off for many years. From debilitating to annoying, they have plagued me. There are, of course, many types of migraines but when one comes on in short order, we want relief. If we are prone to them, having something to turn to is important. Even just for the psychology of it, for me anyway. Typical medications aren't a great option for me as I'm also prone to raises in blood pressure. So, I generally have been left to cope.
Avatar f tn I had a similar problem with Maxalt (a drug in the same class as Relpax-they are both triptans). My insurance would only cover 12 pills, and I need more. My doctor filled out the necessary paperwork for my insurance co., saying I need more than "typically alotted". The pharmacy division of your insurance co. can give you more info. If that's not possible, have you tried another triptan? Maxalt, Imitrex, and Relpax all work for my migraines. Good luck!
635402 tn?1270162477 On May 16, Glaxo-Smith-Kline Pharmaceuticals, the makers of Imitrex, announced that they were releasing a new drug for the treatment of migraines. The new drug is to be called TREXIMET and according to the makers, was to be a vast improvement over Imitrex. Like Imitrex, it is made to be taken at the onset of a migraine, but is supposed to work faster and better to reduce migraine pain.
Avatar f tn does either imitrex or maxalt contain caffeine? I was taking Maxalt for migraines and it worked great! Now my insurance has decided I need to try Imitrex before they will approve coverage for the Maxalt. The Imitrex took about 2 hours to have any effect, but eventually my headache subsided. Since then I have had recurring headaches for 4 days.
1103688 tn?1257894552 For example, Imitrex is the only triptan that is also a Sulfa drug (many people have Sulfa allergies). Imitrex is known to cause the side-effect you mentioned in some people, the severe heart palpitations.
Avatar f tn Drugs like Imitrex, Maxalt etc. They all are in the same class of drugs called sumatriptans. These are drugs used to halt migraines.
Avatar f tn I am pretty loyal to Imitrex. But always at max dose of 200mg. There is a new drug from makers of Imitrex called Trixamet. It is Imitrex plus an NSAID. I got a sample from my doc. I loved it. Trixamet is supposed to be covered by any insurance that takes Imitrex, but mine doesn't cover it. Maybe yours will. Hope I helped.
Avatar f tn I am having trouble determining whether my migraine medication, Imitrex, is one them. Sumitriptan and naproxen are not on the list, but since this drug narrows blood vessels, I wonder if it's best not to take it before surgery.
Avatar m tn I am so glad that you asked about imitrex! I take a triptan, like imitrex, and personally I think that triptans are the best treatment for acute migraines, and they are also the most prescribed medication for acute migraines.
Avatar f tn I don't have much of a question, but wanted to introduce myself. I've periodically had migraines throughout my life, but they were never very often. However, that changed since I've been diagnosed with lupus and fibromyalgia (as well as other chronic pain issues). Especially since the fibro was discovered (about 15 years ago), my migraines have increased in frequency. The week before last, I had 3 in that week alone.
Avatar f tn Hi jcovaliu, Lots of us here on the forum suffer from chronic migraines, so we can really sympathize with you. Many of us have tried multiple preventative medications before finding the right preventative medication that worked for us. The Elatrolet you are taking is a preventative medication, it's generic name is Amitriptyline.
1056589 tn?1273747102 Not all triptans use the same ingredients, and often times it is the other ingredients that people will have the adverse reactions to (for instance, Imitrex is a Sulfa drug, and although most people with Sulfa antibiotic allergies don't end up having allergic reactions to Imitrex, it should still be noted that none of the other Triptans are Sulfa drugs). There is a triptan called Naratriptan, the brand name is Amerge, and it tends to have much less adverse reactions than Imitrex.
Avatar f tn 37 year old daughter has chronic headaches is on coumadin and imitrex no longer working.
Avatar f tn Is there a safe way to detox at home from Fioricet (butalbital)? I can't find an inpatient program where I live & I really want to stop taking this drug. My doc keeps telling me it ok to use it for headaches/migraines & keeps prescribing it. I've used it for nearly 30 years & I know most of my headaches are rebounds. I have also used Imitrex, but it's alot more expensive & doesn't always work. Any & all suggestions are welcome.
Avatar n tn Has anybody found relief from migraines? I've tried everything from herbs to Imitrex. Started having rebound headaches with the imitrex and hated taking it anyway.
Avatar n tn Now he is in college and when he gets a migraine it keeps him from going to class. The school is aware of it. I would just like for him to get some relief from this. Does anyone know a doctor that specializes in this. Please let me know. Thanks for your help in advance.
Avatar f tn I save a whole tablet or sometimes 2 tabs for the whopper migraines. Imitrex is in a class of medication known as sumatriptans and is not a narcotic. You definitely need insurance for it since it's expensive but the copays aren't bad at all. Neurologists are specialist when it comes to headaches so you can tell your GP if that's who you still see that you want a referral to a neuro doc for your headaches. No sense feeling bad when there are lenty of medicatioons out there to try.
Avatar f tn I have suffered from migraines for 22 years. I have tried every drug there is. I use imitrex and that seems to help get rid of them sometimes. I have been to Mayos Clinic, allergy clinics, had a hysterectomy, and to a Univ. Hospital. I am at the end of the line. I am getting 2 to 3 a week. The last drug I tried, Verampamil, is what the Mayos Dr. suggested. I did find out I had sleep apnea so now I don't wake up with a migraine. I'm getting older and I'm getting tired of the pain.
Avatar f tn Be careful with that chica! It is very addictive. It is a barbituate and if you do become dependent or addicted to it, you have to taper slowly off of it. Quitting cold turkey can be dangerous, and possibly cause seizures. Do some research on it before you even consider taking it. (Always a good idea with any drug. Doctors often neglect to tell you about side effects, etc.) Maybe talk to your doctor about an alternate treatment option. There are a TON out there. Good luck to you.
Avatar f tn school can add to how she feels....carrying heavy books.....climbing stairs...certain activities in gym class.....see if she can use a wheeled book case...so she is not lifting them....and if the school has a elevator if more then one floor... She may need to take a nap after school to recharge.... A 3 to 4 mm herniation by most Drs will be dismissed.....they look for a herniation of 5 mm's or longer...
Avatar f tn I have had similar experiences. I have always suffered with migraines - since puberty. And, several years ago I had a headache beyond belief (wound up getting bells palsy), and at the start of the headache I had gone to the doctor in the regular clinic and they gave me a shot of imitrex in the back of my arm, I came home and layed down, woke up at around midnight with an almost paralizing pain in my head and I went back to the hospital but this time went into the ER.
Avatar n tn These headaches are accompanied by wavy vision that makes it hard for me to focus on one thing for a long time, especially when sitting in class as I am a college student. Besides the vision problems I am experiencing a watery right eye, sore neck, diarrhea, runny/stuffy nose, and nausea all at different times throughout the day. My doctor gave me some oxycodone at first to treat the headaches and then went on to give me imitrex and a z-pack for the cold symptoms.
Avatar n tn My husband takes dilanitin for seizures. He had to take a drug test for a job and tested positive for barbituates. Does any one know if this is common?
Avatar n tn Your taking this drug for an anxiety disorder is what I term a “work-around.” It is an attempt to deal with the symptom but does not get at the cause. My guess is that your anxiety is counteracting the drug effect (which is a known negative effect with this medication). I do not know what you are doing to deal with the anxiety, but I think that this is where your cure lies. To my knowledge, there is not a negative physical effect on your penis. S.A.Liroff, M.D.
Avatar f tn My doctor tried to get me to take a drug called Sevella and I have migraines and take Imitrex for them. If I had taken the Imitrex with the Sevella it could shut down my brain stem and possible death. Luckily, I looked it up and called the pharmacist and they NO WAY don't take Sevella with Imitrex. I called my GP back and they say well that is why I said to take half a pill, plus the pills were expired for two months (he had given me a sample).
Avatar f tn Sounds like migraine headaches to me. See your family doctor and ask for Imitrex and see if that helps and if not, see a neurologist for a headache evaluation.
Avatar n tn I've had what the doctors call cluster migraines for about 15 years. I've been many times to the doctor, although when I was younger they said there was no pills for this type of thing. They will come often, mostly a constant pressure that will build up now and again for weeks or months at a time, with short reprieves for a month or two.
341655 tn?1240368839 what is the difference between the imitrex injections and pills? Which is more effective and prescribed more?
1046692 tn?1255391835 Is it safe to take Lexapro and Imitrex? There is a warning on the package against this but I thought I would ask the professionals first.
