imitrex dosage

My dr recently told me that they are changing one of my meds from lortab to norco, same dosage but less acetaminophen. They also said they would be changing from 3x to 4x per day. I had a migraine during visit and wasn't thinking very clearly, so I didn't think to ask why the increase. I will ask this during my next visit, but in the meantime am wondering if anyone had had a similar situation or may offer any info. Thank you and best wishes for a great day.

I am so glad that you asked about imitrex! I take a triptan, like imitrex, and personally I think that triptans are the best treatment for acute migraines, and they are also the most prescribed medication for acute migraines.

I don't have much of a question, but wanted to introduce myself. I've periodically had migraines throughout my life, but they were never very often. However, that changed since I've been diagnosed with lupus and fibromyalgia (as well as other chronic pain issues). Especially since the fibro was discovered (about 15 years ago), my migraines have increased in frequency. The week before last, I had 3 in that week alone.

The new drug is to be called TREXIMET and according to the makers, was to be a vast improvement over Imitrex. Like Imitrex, it is made to be taken at the onset of a migraine, but is supposed to work faster and better to reduce migraine pain. GSK has spent several years and millions of dollars researching and "pre-marketing" Treximet in anticipation of FDA approval and product launch. So what's the deal? Is this really better than Imitrex alone?

Hi Mary. I can totally understand your frustration with your health. I am much like you in that I am most often in those same rooms. I am still adjusting to the idea that I can no longer do many of the things I loved to do and that my life has changed dramatically because of my illness. It is isolating and definitely can cause one to be depressed. You aren't alone. I was also a Type A and i'm finding that most who have fibro were also.

) I stopped taking it. I would use it if the headache/migraine wasnt bad enough to take Imitrex. It worked well for me.... but dont take too much...it did not make me feel "high" either....

The only medication that help me is a cocktail of 2 aspirins, 2 Tylenol and 2 Motrin 800mg, if I catch it at the beginning. I f is too late,Imitrex 100mg works for me, specially the injection, pills are prone to take effect a bit later, but the injection is inmediate .

what is the difference between the imitrex injections and pills? Which is more effective and prescribed more?

Is it safe to take Lexapro and Imitrex? There is a warning on the package against this but I thought I would ask the professionals first.

If you suffer from some other types of medical conditions too, Imitrex should not be taken. Do not take Imitrex if you have underlying cardiovascular diseases, if you have uncontrolled hypertension, if you are taking MAO-A antidepressants or and do not take Imitrex if you have severe hepatic impairment.

What is the athena blood test?...Had a headache now since May, all regular tests have come back normal, been ckecked for lupus MS and a hodge podge of things and still no results ..now they are talking about this athena test ...other sypmtoms are considered separate because they started later except for legs swelling. On Topamax 75 mg 2x day for it and still no results. can't use imitrex...bad reaction to it what does this test do to help find my problem and why does it cost so much!

does either imitrex or maxalt contain caffeine? I was taking Maxalt for migraines and it worked great! Now my insurance has decided I need to try Imitrex before they will approve coverage for the Maxalt. The Imitrex took about 2 hours to have any effect, but eventually my headache subsided. Since then I have had recurring headaches for 4 days.

The bioavailability of Imitrex tablets is pretty pathetic, honestly, so Imitrex Injection is VERY different then Imitrex tablets or Imitrex Nasal Spray. Also, which Maxalt did you try? Did you try the regular Maxalt tablets or the Maxalt-MLTs? The Maxalt-MLTs are the orally disintegrating tablets. The Maxalt-MLTs work better than the regular Maxalt tablets. If you haven't tried Maxalt-MLTs yet, I would suggest giving those a try too. Which Zomig did you try?

so there is no reason to become an addict or to crave the medication, but ones body will still become highly dependent on the medication to a point that if you take the body off the medication abruptly you can cause seizures and even death... Imitrex is NOT like that!! Imitrex does not cause any sort of high or euphoria so you cannot become addicted to it, you will not "crave" it when you are not in pain...

Ziac is for high blood pressure and I doubt you have this at 20! Do you know why it was given to you? Imitrex is for migraines, do you get migraine headaches? Lexapro is used to treat anxiety and obcessive compulsive disorders (OCD). This is where one keeps doing something repeatedly, like handwashing, cleaning, checking locks, etc. People with OCD often have ADHD as well. Lexapro can calm you and help you concentrate, but it doesn't sound like it's working for you.

I am pretty loyal to Imitrex. But always at max dose of 200mg. There is a new drug from makers of Imitrex called Trixamet. It is Imitrex plus an NSAID. I got a sample from my doc. I loved it. Trixamet is supposed to be covered by any insurance that takes Imitrex, but mine doesn't cover it. Maybe yours will. Hope I helped.

But since they were unwilling to look into it further they just kept going the dosage. Now I need unseemly amount of IBU for it to even knock the edgeoff. Something's that help me are using an ice pack at the base of my head and neck. I am also taking topamax though my body took a long time to adjust to. Imitrex as been a real blessing lately. And I take IBU everyday along with the topamax. The imitrex is only to be used on my extremely bad days.

Good Morning guys! I woke up with another migraine this morning. This is the 3rd one this month. I usually have about 2 in a year, but never this close together and this often. I have been taking 1 imitrex when I have a headache. My question is, "Is Imitrex habit-forming?" I have researched all the websites, but they also say that ultram isn't habit forming. Hello. I've been suffering from sever migraines for years but recently they have gotten worse.. For a week now I've had a constant pain. Ive tried imitrex and that hadn't help. I took a pain med n it help for a little while. But the pain is back ten fold. Is that because of the pain med.? Any suggestions on migraine medications?

I used to get so many migraines and I was taking imitrex injections. When I moved the migraines got worse from stress and I started taking the imitrex daily, sometimes even multiple times a day. After about 3 months of this I started getting heart palpitations. They got so bad that I stopped taking my imitrex (cold turkey) on the whim that it was causing them. The palpitations started getting worse, but I had now talked myself into having a fear of imitrex (that it would kill me).

Under the treatments for migraines why isn't Imitrex or Fioranal listed?

I was prescribed Ultram for chronic headaches. The dosage I take does help my headaches and aleviates lower back pain I often have due to Sciatica. I have read a lot on these boards about tapering before quitting altogether. Since I don't take too many in a days time, if I quit completely, will the withdrawals be bad?
