Imitrex and vicodin

Common Questions and Answers about Imitrex and vicodin

imitrex

Avatar f tn s experience with the imitrex has been - good or bad - and if they have any other tips of things I can try (non-medicinal) to reduce the pain, etc., of the migraines. Fortunately, (knock on wood), I haven't had a migraine since I saw my doc on thursday, so I haven't tried the imitrex yet. I'm always leary/hesitant about ANY new medication, so would definitely appreciate any advice about this med that anyone might have. Thanks so much!
656111 tn?1273820739 Well, I had problem with script to fill Imitrex medicine couple years ago.... it only supplys 9 and only covers one any type of migraine medication PER month. When I ran out of it, I asked my doctor to give me script for more Imitrex and I dropped script off at Walgreens then few minutes later, pharmacist told me that insurance was not covering that...
Avatar m tn Since I started to wean off my Xanax addiction I quit taking the Vicodin and Tramadol, except for 1 day had bad migraine and none Imitrex pills, my insurance only covers 9 pills and paying them is more than 200 dollars. The point is that I do not feel side effects or W/D effects from quitting the Vicodin and Tramadol. It this possible? I didn't even knew Tramadol was an opiate until I joined this community.
545538 tn?1295992017 I'm on 1200 Ribavirin and Pegasys 22/48 1.a. I've always had problems with headaches but its getting progressively worse. I'm taking way too many tylenols and darvon. I wake up and go to sleep with headaches. My GP had me get a MRI and my brain is fine. My GP wrote a prescription for Vicodin and I'll pick them up after work today. Hopefully they will work. I may not be able to take them while at work but it sure will be good to get some relief other times.
635402 tn?1270162477 The have tried pain management techniques, chiropractic therapy, bio feed back, the list goes on. They have tried morphine, and vicodin among other drugs they and these did not help. They are trying Meloxicam usually just called Mobic. I looked it up, it doesn't say anything about being for pain, but it is an anti inflammatory med, so I wondered if anyone else had experience with this medication. It is good for slowing down my osteoporosis so that's good.
Avatar f tn does either imitrex or maxalt contain caffeine? I was taking Maxalt for migraines and it worked great! Now my insurance has decided I need to try Imitrex before they will approve coverage for the Maxalt. The Imitrex took about 2 hours to have any effect, but eventually my headache subsided. Since then I have had recurring headaches for 4 days.
Avatar m tn I am so glad that you asked about imitrex! I take a triptan, like imitrex, and personally I think that triptans are the best treatment for acute migraines, and they are also the most prescribed medication for acute migraines.
Avatar n tn My husband takes dilanitin for seizures. He had to take a drug test for a job and tested positive for barbituates. Does any one know if this is common?
Avatar f tn I know I have Imitrex and I'm on Topamax for preventative. This is more tension than migraine...it's almost as painful, but different type of pain. And the Imitrex only works if it's a true migraine and I've wasted the last 3 Imitrex hoping it would help, and those suckers aren't cheap!!! But I REALLY appreciate the advice....I really do.
5527883 tn?1392586811 there are many other meds that are more effective so I think you should be able to stay away from the Vicodin once you find what meds work. Imitrex is excellent for migraine and not addicting. It's never a good idea to take any med that has the potential for abuse. If it can't be avoided, someone else should hand it out to you. But for something as chronic as migraine...check your options; there are many.
Avatar n tn I have been put on everything from narcotics (which I refuse and hate) to Beta Blockers. (Which Do help) Currently on Propanol. But my very FIRST and ONLY time using Imitrex Oral Capsule. I took the medication and I was sitting in my reclining chair and in about 15 mins I became paralyzed for 2.5-3 hours. I had no other medications in my system. I DO NOT use drugs or drink alcohol. Only Imitrex. My husband honestly thought I was joking. I could not lift my head.
Avatar f tn Four to five years ago my doc thought they were migraines and I took Imitrex about once every 2 weeks. Then I started getting a worse headache from the Imitrex, like my entire head was supersensitive, my hair hurt. He sent me to a neurologist who diagnosed occiptal neuralgia. That doc has been giving me botox injections in my neck and prescribed Lyrica. I can't afford the Lyrica -- its $300 a month.
1051752 tn?1253833456 Advil is not migraine medication and can cause problems by making headaches worse. Imitrex is migraine medication that is specifically for migraine and it will stop a migraine. Most migraines do not come with aura. Take that into consideration when you get a headache that feels exactly like your regular migraine just without an aura. That means you are having a migraine. You don't need an aura to have a migraine. Take your migraine medication for a migraine.
Avatar f tn I have tried numerous medications. (Amerge, Imitrex, Toradol, Fioricet, Maxalt, Indocin, Lithium, Imitrex Injections, Vicodin, Perocet.. I beleive there is a few others I just can't think of them at this time) I am now being treated with Zonegran, Depakote. The Zonegran was working for a little while but I have seemed to reach a plateau. I have not been migraine free at all since November, but there have been times where my migraines have been less painful.
Avatar n tn Ask your doctor for Imitrex 100mg, is not narcotic, non addictive and it takes away your migraine right away. I'm also a migraine surferer and have tried a lot of medications and Imitrex works wonders.
203003 tn?1210855907 Like worried, I'm not sure where you are in recovery. I had the exact same thing happen to me last week. I was prescribed Celexa (which I will NEVER take again). I am also prone to migraines, so not sure if it was from the Celexa or just a random migraine. Anyway, I am a little over 5 weeks clean. I went to ER and got 4 shots(Decadron, Stadol, Phenergran and Reglan.) They also sent me home with a vicodin 4 pack(which I didn't need and had my husband dispose of).
1154580 tn?1262215740 I always have to go back and fix the words usually ...the comes out te and my comes out me and there are a few more. I also have had ringing in my ears as well, not everyday maybe a few times a week. I know this constant pain isn't a migraine but I'm just worried what it could be...tumor...cancer....?What are the symptoms? My doctor sent me for a routine MRI in 2007 and it was fine. I went for another MRI waiting out results. No contrast was used is that good or bad?
Avatar f tn t do anything until recently and even with pain killers such as vicodin and morphine(which was via i.v.) and imitrex there was no relief.I normally go about 3 weeks with a migraine get a couple days free but then it comes back normally in the middle of the night to where I wake up crying from the pain.I have had this current one without break for 5 weeks and 3 days.Is it normal to suffer for this long and for this many years with few breaks in between?
1046692 tn?1255391835 Is it safe to take Lexapro and Imitrex? There is a warning on the package against this but I thought I would ask the professionals first.
1056589 tn?1273747102 Imitrex is also not the only triptan on the market, there are quite a few. If you do end up using the Imitrex and you feel you have an adverse reaction to it, one that is not life-threatening but one that you do not enjoy... there are still other triptans to try.
Avatar f tn I have a long history of migraines and so had to have a med I could take on treatment. I opted for Imitrex because it is okay with the Peg, Riba, and Incivek. Interestingly enough, I have not had any bad migraines on treatment but I think that is because I know most of the migraine triggers and have avoided them like the plague. Before treatment, I was taking Cafergot and a tiny dose of Tylenol # 3 when I got the migraines, which was not often these last few years.
Avatar m tn I'm at hour 46.5, I feel strange I'm still feeling alright, but I'm waiting for the other shoe to fall and things to feel real real bad again. My wife wanted my help cutting a a couple of her Vicodin 10's in half and I was holding this demon in my hand and I wasn't tempted. I just felt disgusted with myself and sickened at the thought of taking it ever again. I will beat this...
Avatar f tn PLEASE listen to your doctor and DO NOT stop!!! Stopping narcotics cold turkey, especially during the vulnerable 1st trimester, can cause miscarriage. Please, go back on your medicine and make an appointment with your doctor. If you are determined to stop, ask him to help you taper down SAFELY for you and the baby...this is not a time to take your health into your own hands.
1079216 tn?1258200805 Usually the bioavailability of a nasal spray will be higher than the bioavailability of a oral tablet, such as with the triptan Zomig, where the bioavailability of the oral tablets is 40% and the bioavailability of the nasal spray is 102% (when the bioavailability is higher than 100% it means that the medication by that route works better then it would by intravenous injection), although this sort of increase between oral administration and nasal administration is not the case with Imitrex.
979080 tn?1323433639 I have suffered exploding head syndrome (also known as migraines) for many, many years. I found that Imitrex didn't work and when they were severe would have to go to the hospital and be shot full of demerol and vistaril (an antihistamine that made me sleep). It was not until I could sleep would they go away. That sometimes was several rounds from bounceback migraines and I'd be in the ER for days (happened about 4 - 6 months ago).
Avatar f tn m not sure if my body had simply grown tolerant being on the same dose dly for 5-6 yrs or if it was because of the increased demands my body had to go through this past year, but I made the difficult decision to increase my oxycontin to 50mg three times dly. I have also been on fioricet and imitrex PRN for my many headaches and migraines. I suspect that my headaches have increased in frequency and intensity to the point that I have them daily because of all the meds I take.
Avatar f tn so there is no reason to become an addict or to crave the medication, but ones body will still become highly dependent on the medication to a point that if you take the body off the medication abruptly you can cause seizures and even death... Imitrex is NOT like that!! Imitrex does not cause any sort of high or euphoria so you cannot become addicted to it, you will not "crave" it when you are not in pain...
