Avatar m tn Many woman do not realize they are prego and continue to take their normal medications then worry.
Avatar n tn It is best to get a neurological evaluation done and it is important to break this headache cycle. Topamax is usually prescribed to break the cycle of chronic headache. Hope this helps!
Avatar f tn I have tried numerous medications. (Amerge, Imitrex, Toradol, Fioricet, Maxalt, Indocin, Lithium, Imitrex Injections, Vicodin, Perocet.. I beleive there is a few others I just can't think of them at this time) I am now being treated with Zonegran, Depakote. The Zonegran was working for a little while but I have seemed to reach a plateau. I have not been migraine free at all since November, but there have been times where my migraines have been less painful.
1103688 tn?1257894552 Although, you only mentioned one triptan that you had the reaction to, and that was Imitrex, aka Sumatriptan. Not all triptans are made with the same ingredients and so not all triptans will have the same side-effects. For example, Imitrex is the only triptan that is also a Sulfa drug (many people have Sulfa allergies). Imitrex is known to cause the side-effect you mentioned in some people, the severe heart palpitations.
Avatar f tn Hi, The affordable alternatives to Lyrica are -Neurontin ,Topamax and Cymbalta. Since you have had no relief from Topamax, you can try the other two . if still you feel no better ,please consult your neurologist to suggest an alternative.Hope this helps you . Take care and regards !
Avatar n tn I just started Topamax last night, so tonight is my second dose and last night i got a headache about an hour after taking it and i thought maybe it was just a weird thing, but tonight the same thing happened it's been over an hour now and my head is hurting pretty good, and it wasnt before hand. Has anyone started this med and got headache in return, instead of helping?
Avatar n tn I have been taking Imitrex for years and it is great for my migraines; but I am 53 yrs old and have memory loss too. I have short and long term memory lose . I was wondering if anyone else is having the same trouble?
Avatar n tn Lie in a quiet dark room when you are having the attack and apply cold compresses on the head and neck and do some breathing exercises.
390338 tn?1206462648 m curious why your dr. gave you Frova? Usually the triptans, like Imitrex and Maxalt are very effective and have fewer side effects..
Avatar f tn I am so sorry for what you have been going through. I started having migraines when I was 23. They couldn't diagnose me for 8 years because I had no migraine and had vomiting all night (only at night) and abdominal pain. The neurologist did an electroencephalogram and found it was a migraine. I was put on doxepin for a year and that helped but then it didn't work so they finally put me on Klonopin and it went away but then in my 30's it changed to severe migraine and auras.
705969 tn?1229491814 ve had migraines 3-4 times a week ever since I can remember. I am on Imitrex now for the occasional migraines, and I was on Topamax, but I stopped taking it due to some financial troubles. Anyways, I have experienced over the past few months some balance problems. Now, this is not dizziness, my vision doesn't swim or anything. I'll just be walking along, and suddenly I'm nearly falling over, totally aware of the situation but not in control of what's going on.
1100598 tn?1413127426 After a concussion last summer, I started getting them almost daily, where I would get blurry vision, tremors in my hands, nausea, difficulty speaking, pain in the left temple, and falling. My doctor started me on Topamax, 100mg, which has helped with the symptoms, although I still fall occassionally. She was able to rule out epilepsy. I was wondering if anyone else has these symptoms when they have a migraine?
Avatar n tn I would see a neurologist. For my migraines I take topamax daily and imitrex when I actually am starting to get a headache. There are many headaches that are allergy related and sleep related that mimic migraines. Just my experience.
1524673 tn?1327841500 Thanks for your advice, I have been have problems with migraines for over twenty years, only in the last two months have I been diagnosed with this, as a result of being admitted to hospital with a suspected stroke. I have had an MRI and everything is normal, and topamax seems to be keeping a lid on most of the systems although the right side of my face went numb and my toes started to tingle today. MY family doctor is great but my neurologist not so much.
1364259 tn?1298661181 What is the athena blood test?...Had a headache now since May, all regular tests have come back normal, been ckecked for lupus MS and a hodge podge of things and still no results ..now they are talking about this athena test ...other sypmtoms are considered separate because they started later except for legs swelling. On Topamax 75 mg 2x day for it and still no results. can't use imitrex...bad reaction to it what does this test do to help find my problem and why does it cost so much!
Avatar f tn I would hold off on the imitrex for now. So your body doesn't get use to right away and you would have to keep upping the dose. Something we don't actually want as in the future if and when you may need surgery, you will want something that will help you recover. And if your body has adjusted to tthe medicine it won't help you. Imitrex I believe is taken as a last measure if nothing else helps.
Avatar n tn t get imitrex tablets, get the imitrex or generic nasal spray or imitrex or generic injection OR treximex tablets but NOT imitrex tablets. - Zolmitriptan. brand name Zomig. this is what i use. (although i have used all of them at some point) don't get the tablets... like imitrex, the tablets don't work. But, the nasal spray DOES work incredibly well and this is what is usually prescribed anyway. - Almotriptan. brand name Axert. a very powerful triptan tablet.
Avatar f tn He was put on topamax and imitrex for migraines which are supposedly unrelated and are what sent us to the neurologist in the first place. Migraines continue, some tingling in hands and feet, which is likely the topamax. However, today he had a migraine (been on topamax just over three weeks). Once it wore off I took him to school. Got a call form the nurse about an hour later saying that he blanked on his math test, couldn't remember anything they worked on in the last week or so.
Avatar f tn I know I have Imitrex and I'm on Topamax for preventative. This is more tension than migraine...it's almost as painful, but different type of pain. And the Imitrex only works if it's a true migraine and I've wasted the last 3 Imitrex hoping it would help, and those suckers aren't cheap!!! But I REALLY appreciate the advice....I really do.
489786 tn?1255692879 I have had migraine headaches for most of my life and have taken everything at one time or another. What works best for me is 50mg of topamax daily. Even taking the topamax I get "break through" headaches. I've taken many of the triptans and had good luck with all except Imitrex (got terrible rebound headaches!!!). Excedrin migraine, if I take it right away, works OK now that I take the topamax daily. I hope you get some relief soon.
Avatar n tn Thank you so much. I tried calling a neuro, but I need a doctor's referal to go to one. The doctor I've been to just listened to me for about 5 minutes and gave me imitrex...and only 6 of them. I'm not sure if he will let me go to a neurologist or not, I have to go back and see him in two weeks, but thanks so much for your response, you're the first that ididn't actually tell me there wasn't anything to treat it.
1125820 tn?1265284446 Statistically, compared to the other triptans, Imitrex Injection, Zomig Nasal Spray and Maxalt-MLTs have the highest success rates for total pain relief in the shortest amount of time. Although, everyone is different and all of the triptans on the market have been proven effective in clinical trials, so which one is best for you is really a personal choice that should be made by you and your doctor.
390338 tn?1206462648 I know what you mean when you say that you were using to many Imitrex because he gave me a prescription for 6, 2 weeks ago and I tried to refill it yesterday and they said no, not until Feb. 4th. I was using to many. This may seem like a crazy question but, where do they put the Botox? I have never heard of it for migraines.
656111 tn?1273820739 Well, I had problem with script to fill Imitrex medicine couple years ago.... it only supplys 9 and only covers one any type of migraine medication PER month. When I ran out of it, I asked my doctor to give me script for more Imitrex and I dropped script off at Walgreens then few minutes later, pharmacist told me that insurance was not covering that...
Avatar f tn Ask about Buspar, Elavil, Imitrex, Inderal, Pristiq, Topamax....just to name a few. It really helps to be on a combination of meds to help both migraines and anxiety then you can also take Amerge, Fiorinal or Fioricet as needed.
Avatar n tn HR , first thing I would want to know for the doctor is what kind of headaches do you have ..If topamax, imitrex and drugs like elavil are not helping then you probably are not having migraines and its a different type of headache .I have been told by more then one nero doctor if narcotics are making your headaches go away then you don't have migraines .Narcotics do not on migraines . I finally got relief with topamax .After I had had a hyster back in 2005.
