imitrex

Avatar f tn However, age-appropriate screening for risk factors for stroke and heart disease (for example, cholesterol levels, blood sugar) is important regardless of use of imitrex. Cholesterol levels should be checked regularly and treated if present, and if you have diabetes, strict control of it will minimize your risk of heart disease and stroke. Also, cessation of smoking if you smoke will reduce your risk of heart disease or stroke.
Avatar f tn m not in any pain but I am uncomfortable and kind of anxious. My doctor ruled out stroke and lyme disease and says this is "complex migraine". She seems pretty unconcerned and wants to follow up in 6 weeks. Is it okay to take imitrex? Would that be helpful? Should I ask to be referred to a neurologist? Thank you very much.
561539 tn?1216438257 I took imitrex for the second time ever over the weekend. I stopped over 24 hours ago and still might right side of nose and face from cheek up is completely numb. the medicine should be out of my system by now. i have a regular md appt tomorrow because i'm scared. is it medicine damage (which should be out of my system) or is it migraine damage?
Avatar n tn I was sent to the hospital for stroke symptoms and kept overnight for testing. I was checked for MS and stoke, but all was clear. They told me that I was having Atypical migraines or "silent migraines" that can cause stroke like symptoms without the head pain. I have been to 2 neuro's and have been told the same thing. I am trying to change my diet and I am going to see a hematologist to get my anemia under control.
1056589 tn?1273747102 Imitrex is also not the only triptan on the market, there are quite a few. If you do end up using the Imitrex and you feel you have an adverse reaction to it, one that is not life-threatening but one that you do not enjoy... there are still other triptans to try.
Avatar f tn does either imitrex or maxalt contain caffeine? I was taking Maxalt for migraines and it worked great! Now my insurance has decided I need to try Imitrex before they will approve coverage for the Maxalt. The Imitrex took about 2 hours to have any effect, but eventually my headache subsided. Since then I have had recurring headaches for 4 days.
Avatar m tn I am so glad that you asked about imitrex! I take a triptan, like imitrex, and personally I think that triptans are the best treatment for acute migraines, and they are also the most prescribed medication for acute migraines.
Avatar f tn s experience with the imitrex has been - good or bad - and if they have any other tips of things I can try (non-medicinal) to reduce the pain, etc., of the migraines. Fortunately, (knock on wood), I haven't had a migraine since I saw my doc on thursday, so I haven't tried the imitrex yet. I'm always leary/hesitant about ANY new medication, so would definitely appreciate any advice about this med that anyone might have. Thanks so much!
1524673 tn?1327841500 Thanks for your advice, I have been have problems with migraines for over twenty years, only in the last two months have I been diagnosed with this, as a result of being admitted to hospital with a suspected stroke. I have had an MRI and everything is normal, and topamax seems to be keeping a lid on most of the systems although the right side of my face went numb and my toes started to tingle today. MY family doctor is great but my neurologist not so much.
Avatar m tn In 2002 I started getting extremely bad migraine headaches almost weekly which have continued on until the present (treated with Imitrex and propranalol). Upon raising these symptoms to my doctor he noticed the facial wasting instantly and has run some tests including an MRI (head/brain/neck) but was unable to find anything major.
Avatar f tn Anyhow, I am not an expert, but some people find relief from Triptan medications, like Imitrex. Have you ever tried triptans? Also, you got me worried when you said you had stroke. Can that show up on an EKG or did you just get an MRI. I was wondering cause I have been getting lots of chest pains/heart palpitations plus migraines, went to ER couple wks ago, they ran and EKG and said my "everything was fine and it's just anxiety". ugh.
Avatar f tn t know what else to diagnose me with. I had visual loss and disturbances, numbness of left hand, arm, leg, face and throat, and slurred speech. I had seen a neurologist after that and was diagnosed with Complicated Migranes. From then on I would get one every year or two. Lately I have been getting one or two a month. All the same symptoms, visual disturbances such as spots, squiqqlies, flashes, or blacked out areas.

1051752 tn?1253833456 Advil is not migraine medication and can cause problems by making headaches worse. Imitrex is migraine medication that is specifically for migraine and it will stop a migraine. Most migraines do not come with aura. Take that into consideration when you get a headache that feels exactly like your regular migraine just without an aura. That means you are having a migraine. You don't need an aura to have a migraine. Take your migraine medication for a migraine.
Avatar n tn I have this pressure Mainly on my left side and had numbness and tingling along w/ it. I acutally had some blurry vision and got really confused and thought I was dying. . Originally I went to the ER thinking it was a stroke or an anuerism they did a CTscan and found nothing. Well the feelings are still here a month later. I have since had an MRI of the brain (neurologist MS ruled out), Blood tests, Heart & Corotid artery ultrasounds. They found nothing.
Avatar f tn My old migraines were a pain, literally, but I knew when the aura came that I better start looking for my Imitrex. And they became non-existent when we added topamax. However, I have had to stop that because of weight loss. This new stuff is not quite as easy to figure out and I really appreciate you taking the time to try to educate us on this forum. I am trying to keep a migraine journal and hopefully that will help me recognize the different triggers, etc.
Avatar n tn Ask your doctor for Imitrex 100mg, is not narcotic, non addictive and it takes away your migraine right away. I'm also a migraine surferer and have tried a lot of medications and Imitrex works wonders.
Avatar n tn I am a 32 yo female and started feeling quite dizzy with exercise late 2007. I ignored it for the most part as I was in a SVT and thought maybe that was causing it (I am an ICU RN). I later discovered that I was feeling extreme SOB and light headed while walking up stairs, but this time my heart rate was normal. I have cyanosis of my feet and finger tips after exercising too. Headaches are common for me too after exercising... In January of this year I saw a Cardiologist...
1046692 tn?1255391835 Is it safe to take Lexapro and Imitrex? There is a warning on the package against this but I thought I would ask the professionals first.
Avatar m tn i remember i was scared i was having a stroke, the left side of my body went numb as well as my mouth and tongue. since then it's been a roller coaster ride of pain & disturbance. i'm 27 now, and have been through weeks where i'll have a migraine every other day. then i've gone months without them - actually thinking they were gone for good! i tried a couple different medicines before giving up, imitrex being one of them.
Avatar f tn She was diagnosed with severe migraines, and took Imitrex, but that only dramatically worsened the pain. She has seen numerous neurologists and they did an MRI and found “white specs”. A radiologist believed it to be an early onset of MS, although two neurologists do not believe there is enough convincing evidence that point towards MS. She has also tried taking Lyrica, which again only worsened her pain tremendously.
Avatar m tn I went to the doctors and they thought that it was that I had a stress/cluster headache or low sodium levels (because I was drinking too much water). So I was put on imitrex a migraine headache relief and a muscle relaxer. Which did not help. A few days later I was at my parents house and my vision blacked out and I collapsed on the living room floor. When I was conscious again I could not move my left arm or leg.
518798 tn?1295212279 Hoping my maching was messed up, I ran up to our nurse practictioner and asked her to take it. I was still high. She was very concerned because my dad had his major stroke at 46 and my brother had a heart transplant after passing out playing softball at 50. Anyhoo, they gaveme a clonidine to take in the office to help lower it quickly, then she changed my blood pressure meds. Hopefully that will put an end to the headaches.
Avatar f tn s that help me are using an ice pack at the base of my head and neck. I am also taking topamax though my body took a long time to adjust to. Imitrex as been a real blessing lately. And I take IBU everyday along with the topamax. The imitrex is only to be used on my extremely bad days. I also find that destressing each day with a long hot bubble bath using lavender and candle light is very helpful. I hope you can use some of my tips.
1079216 tn?1258200805 Usually the bioavailability of a nasal spray will be higher than the bioavailability of a oral tablet, such as with the triptan Zomig, where the bioavailability of the oral tablets is 40% and the bioavailability of the nasal spray is 102% (when the bioavailability is higher than 100% it means that the medication by that route works better then it would by intravenous injection), although this sort of increase between oral administration and nasal administration is not the case with Imitrex.
