imitrex

454371 tn?1221297385 The pharmacist told me that you are at a higher risk of seizure and serotonin sydrome if you take ultram and a SSRI and commented about wondering why the doctor prescribed it. My NEW doctor today told me there is no way you should use them both, and told me to ditch (flush) the ultram and that someone on an SSRI or SSNI should in no way be taking that medication with ultram or ultracet. I flushed mine down the toilet today.
Avatar n tn Thank you so much. I tried calling a neuro, but I need a doctor's referal to go to one. The doctor I've been to just listened to me for about 5 minutes and gave me imitrex...and only 6 of them. I'm not sure if he will let me go to a neurologist or not, I have to go back and see him in two weeks, but thanks so much for your response, you're the first that ididn't actually tell me there wasn't anything to treat it.
Avatar f tn s/chest pain) as well and have severe migraines. I was on nortriptyline (a.k.a. Pamolar) which is an SSRI and take Imitrex and have taken other tryptan's for migraines. My neurologist took me off of nortriptyline because he was concerned about the EKG.chest pain. Don't know what DHE's are? I have also read that imitrex and drugs in that category CAN rarely can cause heart problems. You might want to check with your general practitioner or neuro if you see about this.
Avatar f tn does either imitrex or maxalt contain caffeine? I was taking Maxalt for migraines and it worked great! Now my insurance has decided I need to try Imitrex before they will approve coverage for the Maxalt. The Imitrex took about 2 hours to have any effect, but eventually my headache subsided. Since then I have had recurring headaches for 4 days.
Avatar m tn I am so glad that you asked about imitrex! I take a triptan, like imitrex, and personally I think that triptans are the best treatment for acute migraines, and they are also the most prescribed medication for acute migraines.
Avatar f tn s experience with the imitrex has been - good or bad - and if they have any other tips of things I can try (non-medicinal) to reduce the pain, etc., of the migraines. Fortunately, (knock on wood), I haven't had a migraine since I saw my doc on thursday, so I haven't tried the imitrex yet. I'm always leary/hesitant about ANY new medication, so would definitely appreciate any advice about this med that anyone might have. Thanks so much!
Avatar n tn I have been put on everything from narcotics (which I refuse and hate) to Beta Blockers. (Which Do help) Currently on Propanol. But my very FIRST and ONLY time using Imitrex Oral Capsule. I took the medication and I was sitting in my reclining chair and in about 15 mins I became paralyzed for 2.5-3 hours. I had no other medications in my system. I DO NOT use drugs or drink alcohol. Only Imitrex. My husband honestly thought I was joking. I could not lift my head.
1051752 tn?1253833456 Advil is not migraine medication and can cause problems by making headaches worse. Imitrex is migraine medication that is specifically for migraine and it will stop a migraine. Most migraines do not come with aura. Take that into consideration when you get a headache that feels exactly like your regular migraine just without an aura. That means you are having a migraine. You don't need an aura to have a migraine. Take your migraine medication for a migraine.
Avatar n tn Ask your doctor for Imitrex 100mg, is not narcotic, non addictive and it takes away your migraine right away. I'm also a migraine surferer and have tried a lot of medications and Imitrex works wonders.
1046692 tn?1255391835 Is it safe to take Lexapro and Imitrex? There is a warning on the package against this but I thought I would ask the professionals first.
1056589 tn?1273747102 Imitrex is also not the only triptan on the market, there are quite a few. If you do end up using the Imitrex and you feel you have an adverse reaction to it, one that is not life-threatening but one that you do not enjoy... there are still other triptans to try.
Avatar f tn When my husband questioned the doctor, he told him he did not hink the cymbalta did the coma, but I did some research and it shows that cymbalta and Imitrex and relpax are a deadly combination.
1079216 tn?1258200805 Usually the bioavailability of a nasal spray will be higher than the bioavailability of a oral tablet, such as with the triptan Zomig, where the bioavailability of the oral tablets is 40% and the bioavailability of the nasal spray is 102% (when the bioavailability is higher than 100% it means that the medication by that route works better then it would by intravenous injection), although this sort of increase between oral administration and nasal administration is not the case with Imitrex.
1934704 tn?1323449136 I started taking 5 mg of lexapro for my silent migraines with aura and my anxiety/ depression..
979080 tn?1323433639 I have suffered exploding head syndrome (also known as migraines) for many, many years. I found that Imitrex didn't work and when they were severe would have to go to the hospital and be shot full of demerol and vistaril (an antihistamine that made me sleep). It was not until I could sleep would they go away. That sometimes was several rounds from bounceback migraines and I'd be in the ER for days (happened about 4 - 6 months ago).
Avatar f tn m not sure if my body had simply grown tolerant being on the same dose dly for 5-6 yrs or if it was because of the increased demands my body had to go through this past year, but I made the difficult decision to increase my oxycontin to 50mg three times dly. I have also been on fioricet and imitrex PRN for my many headaches and migraines. I suspect that my headaches have increased in frequency and intensity to the point that I have them daily because of all the meds I take.
1125820 tn?1265284446 Statistically, compared to the other triptans, Imitrex Injection, Zomig Nasal Spray and Maxalt-MLTs have the highest success rates for total pain relief in the shortest amount of time. Although, everyone is different and all of the triptans on the market have been proven effective in clinical trials, so which one is best for you is really a personal choice that should be made by you and your doctor.
Avatar f tn so there is no reason to become an addict or to crave the medication, but ones body will still become highly dependent on the medication to a point that if you take the body off the medication abruptly you can cause seizures and even death... Imitrex is NOT like that!! Imitrex does not cause any sort of high or euphoria so you cannot become addicted to it, you will not "crave" it when you are not in pain...
Avatar n tn Usually, an antidepressant like an SSRI is prescribed and a benzo is given short term, until the side effects of the SSRI (if any) start to subside...and the SSRI starts doing its job. Also keep in mind that it takes generally 2-4 weeks for an SSRI to really start making a difference. For some people, it can take up to 6-8 weeks. Generally, the idea is...once the SSRI starts working, the need for the benzo will decrease automatically.
791533 tn?1309745344 I would get a second opinion - I live in chronic pain and have so for years. I had CT and multiple Xrays done, which prove I have arthritis and spodylolothesis - which is one on my L5 vertabrae didn't form correctly and then I got arthritis on it, because vertabrae shouldn't have movement the way it does with me. I have had some severe headaches, migraines and cluster type ones, but they almost completely stopped when I switched over to Lamictal from a SSRI.
518798 tn?1295212279 I will tell you..Imitrex helped me sooo much..and funny thing..when I divorced the a$$ I was married to,my migraines went away..LOL..I'm serious..Now I have maybe 1 a year..but i have noticed that I have already had 2 now since june..I think it's the same cause..
Avatar f tn Hello. I've been suffering from sever migraines for years but recently they have gotten worse.. For a week now I've had a constant pain. Ive tried imitrex and that hadn't help. I took a pain med n it help for a little while. But the pain is back ten fold. Is that because of the pain med.? Any suggestions on migraine medications?
Avatar f tn m wondering if based on their experience, someone can tell me if their SSRI has helped improved their physical symptoms over time? My SSRI helps me to be more calm and positive, however I still have physical symptoms of panic and anxiety such as tingling hands and tight chest occasionally.
Avatar f tn I used to get so many migraines and I was taking imitrex injections. When I moved the migraines got worse from stress and I started taking the imitrex daily, sometimes even multiple times a day. After about 3 months of this I started getting heart palpitations. They got so bad that I stopped taking my imitrex (cold turkey) on the whim that it was causing them. The palpitations started getting worse, but I had now talked myself into having a fear of imitrex (that it would kill me).
Avatar n tn but in all honesty it has changed my mood and made me think differently thus changing me eating and energy levels, and that is more likely to change weight not the pill itself, im not saying it can't im saying it is different for each individual and there individual drain chemistry and the drugs interaction with this...
Avatar f tn He suggested that this is autoimmune in nature and that an SSRI may help. i tried Prozac for a week once and some of my endocrine bloodwork went wacky (prolactin level was 165, normal is no higher than 30 and I was having hot flashes) Have any of you had any luck with an antidepressant in this class? My primary doc is reluctant as he says i am not depressed, although the situation can be depressing.
