Imitrex and heart attacks

Common Questions and Answers about Imitrex and heart attacks

imitrex

Avatar f tn s experience with the imitrex has been - good or bad - and if they have any other tips of things I can try (non-medicinal) to reduce the pain, etc., of the migraines. Fortunately, (knock on wood), I haven't had a migraine since I saw my doc on thursday, so I haven't tried the imitrex yet. I'm always leary/hesitant about ANY new medication, so would definitely appreciate any advice about this med that anyone might have. Thanks so much!
Avatar f tn I used to get so many migraines and I was taking imitrex injections. When I moved the migraines got worse from stress and I started taking the imitrex daily, sometimes even multiple times a day. After about 3 months of this I started getting heart palpitations. They got so bad that I stopped taking my imitrex (cold turkey) on the whim that it was causing them. The palpitations started getting worse, but I had now talked myself into having a fear of imitrex (that it would kill me).

Avatar m tn I am so glad that you asked about imitrex! I take a triptan, like imitrex, and personally I think that triptans are the best treatment for acute migraines, and they are also the most prescribed medication for acute migraines.
1676272 tn?1307298254 Currently he is on Depakote, and Toprol 2x daily..He has Zofran tabs and Imitrex pens for when he is having the migraine...Sometimes the home medications work, but we usually end up in the er where they give him a big dose of Thorazine and some Benadryl to knock him out. I pick him up 6-8 hours later, I care for him at home till it passes, and we wait for the next one...We have eliminated several foods--coffee, chocolate, late night snacking..that were causing it...
Avatar f tn Hello. I've been suffering from sever migraines for years but recently they have gotten worse.. For a week now I've had a constant pain. Ive tried imitrex and that hadn't help. I took a pain med n it help for a little while. But the pain is back ten fold. Is that because of the pain med.? Any suggestions on migraine medications?
Avatar f tn Imitrex tablets and the Imitrex injectable pen have completely helped me. I hardly ever need the pen and can usually get away with only half of an Imitrex tab. Hormone headaches are definitely for real, get yourself some pain relief and enjoy feeling better. Take care.
Avatar f tn so there is no reason to become an addict or to crave the medication, but ones body will still become highly dependent on the medication to a point that if you take the body off the medication abruptly you can cause seizures and even death... Imitrex is NOT like that!! Imitrex does not cause any sort of high or euphoria so you cannot become addicted to it, you will not "crave" it when you are not in pain...
Avatar n tn You need to call the lab where the tilts are done and ask what drugs interfere with the tilt table test protocol and they will have you go over your med list and tell you which meds you need to go off and also how far in advance you would need to be off of them; if you do need to go off meds, you'll then need to talk to your doc or pharmacist to find out if you need to taper off or can go cold turkey on/off the meds for the test.
Avatar n tn I have this pressure Mainly on my left side and had numbness and tingling along w/ it. I acutally had some blurry vision and got really confused and thought I was dying. . Originally I went to the ER thinking it was a stroke or an anuerism they did a CTscan and found nothing. Well the feelings are still here a month later. I have since had an MRI of the brain (neurologist MS ruled out), Blood tests, Heart & Corotid artery ultrasounds. They found nothing.
Avatar f tn does either imitrex or maxalt contain caffeine? I was taking Maxalt for migraines and it worked great! Now my insurance has decided I need to try Imitrex before they will approve coverage for the Maxalt. The Imitrex took about 2 hours to have any effect, but eventually my headache subsided. Since then I have had recurring headaches for 4 days.
Avatar f tn Thanks for replying, I have not had imitrex before but have had relpax and fioricet for migraine attacks in the past. And yes, the pain med has nothing to do with the migraine, but for a plethora of other issue....I only mentioned it as that was why I did not think to ask about why they were increasing my dose on the new med. I fully understand about the Tylenol concerns and trust their treatment plan for me.
Avatar m tn played little league. I do take Imitrex for the Migraines (I have 4 sisters who also deal with Migraines so obviously hereditary). My question is, is there anything I can take before playing tennis or after to alleviate the migraines. Sometimes the Imitrex helps tremendously & sometimes it takes more the one 50 mg pill.

1079216 tn?1258200805 Usually the bioavailability of a nasal spray will be higher than the bioavailability of a oral tablet, such as with the triptan Zomig, where the bioavailability of the oral tablets is 40% and the bioavailability of the nasal spray is 102% (when the bioavailability is higher than 100% it means that the medication by that route works better then it would by intravenous injection), although this sort of increase between oral administration and nasal administration is not the case with Imitrex.
Avatar n tn Do you grequently have migraine attacks with aura? And do you generally have nausea accompanied with migraine attacks? Are you having any other symptom like stomach ache, heartburn, bowel complaints? In the meanwhile, you could take the medications to treat nausea. Best..
Avatar f tn Both of my hands and bottom of my feet are tingling, pains are running up my forearms and calves and my fingers and toes feel like they are fuzing together. Other than Imitrex I am not on any medication. The migraines do not even bother me. I have one to two of these attacks a month. My father died from MS, I have had had 4 MRI's showing nothing. I know stress can do weird things to your body but for 2 years the same thing.
Avatar n tn I have been having headaches and migraines since i was five and now i am getting them more frequently. I also have been getting deep pressure in specific spots in my head and it feels as though its a headache, but then disappears. I would like for you to suggest certain causes of this.
Avatar n tn I have been put on everything from narcotics (which I refuse and hate) to Beta Blockers. (Which Do help) Currently on Propanol. But my very FIRST and ONLY time using Imitrex Oral Capsule. I took the medication and I was sitting in my reclining chair and in about 15 mins I became paralyzed for 2.5-3 hours. I had no other medications in my system. I DO NOT use drugs or drink alcohol. Only Imitrex. My husband honestly thought I was joking. I could not lift my head.
Avatar n tn Yes, let me know what the doctor says even though I been to neurologists and headache specialists they just don't know! thank God for the imitrex i mean it goes away after 15 minutes of taking it, but how much longer do i have to take this for? It can't be that safe to keep taking this. Did you try 100mg's of imitrex? That's what works for me I had tried 50 and it didn nothing once I got 100 it was a whole new world.
Avatar n tn once a cardiologist told me that i had a deformed pylorus thus after eating my digestion was so slow that it caused my migraine and heart palpitations. did anyone suffer from these types of symptoms. do you think my migraines can relate to the pylorus? like now i'm suffering from my head for like a week and no pain killers help me or medication for my migraines make my stomach hurt so much. please help me i don't know what to do.
1051752 tn?1253833456 Advil is not migraine medication and can cause problems by making headaches worse. Imitrex is migraine medication that is specifically for migraine and it will stop a migraine. Most migraines do not come with aura. Take that into consideration when you get a headache that feels exactly like your regular migraine just without an aura. That means you are having a migraine. You don't need an aura to have a migraine. Take your migraine medication for a migraine.
Avatar m tn Triptans constrict blood vessels in the brain and relieve swelling and is used to effectively and quickly relieve headache pain, sensitivity to light and noise, and nausea and vomiting associated with migraines. They are indicated for moderate to severe headaches. Migraine management, however, may vary from one person to another. And what works for one may not work for another. It is best that you check with your attending physician also for proper management. Take care and do keep us posted.
Avatar f tn I suffer with panic attacks, anxiety, and depression which are only made worse by this constant pain, it hurts to be typing this, so someone please give me some advice. We are currently seeing a PA, Neurologist with migraine specialty and a homepathic doctor.
1103688 tn?1257894552 t take Imitrex because it causes me to have severe heart palpitations (bad enough that I have to be hospitalized - I've only been given it once, and that was all it took). The thing that works best for me as a preventative is Excedrin - just plain old, over-the-counter Excedrin, but the problem with this is that I have multiple digestive problems, among which is the tendency to develop gastric ulcers, and my gastroenterologist would really like it if I would stop taking Excedrin.
Avatar f tn lately i get constant pain up and down my arms and into my shoulders then center of my chest hurts and it feels heavy but not real bad it kinda feels like heart burn. the pain in my arms will only be in one arm at a time. the past 2 days the pain in arm and chest comes and goes..and i've read that in women symptoms are different sometimes than in men..im worried because the pain is becoming more frequent than it has been..
Avatar m tn I am a 48 year old white male, and I have already had a total of 5 heart attacks (all within the last 5 tears). At first my doctoer thought it was due to my low HDL, as it has been lower that 28 for the last 5 years. But after my last attack, about 3 months ago, the doctors are now thinking that my body is trying to reject the 3 stents the have pkaced in me. This last attack was pretty serious, and we are planning to have a defibri;ator implanted later this month.
Avatar n tn There are many medications for migraines like Imitrex, Zomig wich are useful in aborting acute attacks, while medications like Topamax and beta blockers are useful as prophylactic agents. Please consult a neurologist. Take care!
