Hi Theresa! The question about Imitrex is a really good question! And in almost all cases Imitrex is VERY SAFE! But! Since you may suffer from what is called Hemiplegic migraine (some doctors refer to this as "complicated migraine") then Imitrex can often be contraindicated. As well as being contraindicated in the case of Hemiplegic migraine, Imitrex is also contraindicated in some other types of migraine headaches as well such as Basilar artery migraine.

I am so glad that you asked about imitrex! I take a triptan, like imitrex, and personally I think that triptans are the best treatment for acute migraines, and they are also the most prescribed medication for acute migraines.

I have also read that imitrex and drugs in that category CAN rarely can cause heart problems. You might want to check with your general practitioner or neuro if you see about this. Also, do you have a mitral valve prolapse w/reflux? I think this would show on an ECHO? the reason I ask is that I was diagnosed several years ago adn the dr. says this causes chest pain and heart palpitations as well as migraines and low blood pressure-all of which I have recently experienced.

Lie in a quiet dark room when you are having the attack and apply cold compresses on the head and neck and do some breathing exercises.

Hello. I've been suffering from sever migraines for years but recently they have gotten worse.. For a week now I've had a constant pain. Ive tried imitrex and that hadn't help. I took a pain med n it help for a little while. But the pain is back ten fold. Is that because of the pain med.? Any suggestions on migraine medications?

I have suffered exploding head syndrome (also known as migraines) for many, many years. I found that Imitrex didn't work and when they were severe would have to go to the hospital and be shot full of demerol and vistaril (an antihistamine that made me sleep). It was not until I could sleep would they go away. That sometimes was several rounds from bounceback migraines and I'd be in the ER for days (happened about 4 - 6 months ago).

It feels tight and stiff, and very sore. The pain is not associated with movement, and seems to be present no matter what I'm doing (even when resting my eyes). What bothers me most about this, though, is that there is a very dull, lingering pain in the eye that lasts months after these headaches. It feels like a very dull pressure under my eyebrow near the nose, and it starts following the ocular headache and is constant thereafter.

t take Imitrex because it causes me to have severe heart palpitations (bad enough that I have to be hospitalized - I've only been given it once, and that was all it took). The thing that works best for me as a preventative is Excedrin - just plain old, over-the-counter Excedrin, but the problem with this is that I have multiple digestive problems, among which is the tendency to develop gastric ulcers, and my gastroenterologist would really like it if I would stop taking Excedrin.

does either imitrex or maxalt contain caffeine? I was taking Maxalt for migraines and it worked great! Now my insurance has decided I need to try Imitrex before they will approve coverage for the Maxalt. The Imitrex took about 2 hours to have any effect, but eventually my headache subsided. Nothing is working to get ride of daily head ache and I am back up to 3-4 severe migraines a week where I need Fioricet because Imitrex has stopped working . Last week I has an attack where it took them two Tortal shots , an Imitrex shot and a phenergan shot plus three oxycoten . I have this pressure Mainly on my left side and had numbness and tingling along w/ it. I acutally had some blurry vision and got really confused and thought I was dying. . Originally I went to the ER thinking it was a stroke or an anuerism they did a CTscan and found nothing. Well the feelings are still here a month later. I have since had an MRI of the brain (neurologist MS ruled out), Blood tests, Heart & Corotid artery ultrasounds. They found nothing.

My wife has had chronic diarrhea since July and has had a minor heart attack due to low potassium. She has also developed a pain in the gall bladder area. Tests so far (upper and lower GI scope, CT scan of abdomen, ultra sound of gall bladder and numerous blood tests) have not been conclusive of anything other than microscopic colitis. She is on a variety of meds but nothing is stopping the diarrhea and she ends up in the hospital every few weeks to receive potassium through IV.

s experience with the imitrex has been - good or bad - and if they have any other tips of things I can try (non-medicinal) to reduce the pain, etc., of the migraines. Fortunately, (knock on wood), I haven't had a migraine since I saw my doc on thursday, so I haven't tried the imitrex yet. html I would suggest you to take your migraine meds as soon as you get the sign of headache or aura and do not wait for the attack to get fully blown to take the migraine med. Hope this helps!

I have been having headaches and migraines since i was five and now i am getting them more frequently. I also have been getting deep pressure in specific spots in my head and it feels as though its a headache, but then disappears. I would like for you to suggest certain causes of this.

I have been put on everything from narcotics (which I refuse and hate) to Beta Blockers. (Which Do help) Currently on Propanol. But my very FIRST and ONLY time using Imitrex Oral Capsule. I took the medication and I was sitting in my reclining chair and in about 15 mins I became paralyzed for 2.5-3 hours. I had no other medications in my system. I DO NOT use drugs or drink alcohol. Only Imitrex. My husband honestly thought I was joking. I could not lift my head.

Advil is not migraine medication and can cause problems by making headaches worse. Imitrex is migraine medication that is specifically for migraine and it will stop a migraine. Most migraines do not come with aura. Take that into consideration when you get a headache that feels exactly like your regular migraine just without an aura. That means you are having a migraine. You don't need an aura to have a migraine. Take your migraine medication for a migraine.

My wife gets frequent migraines...and the only thing that seems to work for her is demorol and and antinausea med the name of which escapes me..she's tried everything else...I had her in the ER 2 weeks ago and the doctor acted like a mad scientist loading her up with a bunch of stuff I can't remember that had her wired enough to light up NY city...he refused to giver her demorol..

But the hospice nurse called my doctor and spoke to him--and he prescribed me imitrex injections. I was terrified of these injections. But lucky for me the hospice nurse was able to give it to me. And it worked. I just had the after headache I can't quite explain to anybody where the pain was. But I couldn't give myself an injection. I didn't even trust my parents to do it.

Ask your doctor for Imitrex 100mg, is not narcotic, non addictive and it takes away your migraine right away. I'm also a migraine surferer and have tried a lot of medications and Imitrex works wonders.

i recently had two ecgs because i thought i was having a heart attack i have been really scared but the er doctor assured me that because i am 30 it was very unlikely unless i did drugs like cocaine but my dad died on this past fathers day of a heart attack and he was 51 my fear of having a heart attack is very high and i am not satisfied and my doctor does not want me to see a cardiologist i just do not know what to do now

Well, I had problem with script to fill Imitrex medicine couple years ago.... it only supplys 9 and only covers one any type of migraine medication PER month. When I ran out of it, I asked my doctor to give me script for more Imitrex and I dropped script off at Walgreens then few minutes later, pharmacist told me that insurance was not covering that...
