Imitrex and birth defects

Common Questions and Answers about Imitrex and birth defects

imitrex

The hormones rising in early pregnancy cause headaches, so thats probably why your migraines are getting worse, if you told your doctor he would be able to treat you accordingly ..No you should not take any birthcontrol while pregnant, it can possibly cause birth defects. And if you are going to have this baby your mom is bound to find out eventually...if you were adult enough to plan a pregnancy be adult enough to tell your mom.
t take it tomorrow I promise but i took today, would there be any birth defects? I;ve been taking this last month too and i stopped when i found out and as is aid i took one this afternoon, Im terrified!
I gave birth to my daughter a couple weeks ago, and she scored all 9s and 10s on her apgar at birth. She was a week overdue, and only weighed 6lbs at birth, but i also smoked during my pregnancy. (horrible, i know...) but she is extremely healthy and alert, and very beautiful, and im not saying that out of parental predjudice btw... lol on my worst days i took 1500, 3 doses at 500 through day. Dont be afraid of your medication if given to you by your obgyn.
I was prescribed Topamax along with an appetite suppressant (Adipex) for weight loss a bit over a year ago and stopped taking them after two and a half months. I did not lose all of the weight I had wanted to, but most of it. I had gained 55 pounds while on Paxil over the course of two and a half years. By taking a combination of the two medicines, I lost 22 pounds the first month, 10 pounds the second month, and 8 pounds the first half of the third month.
I only use one 30mg pill every 24 hours. I have multiple bone fractures from race injuries and without morphine, Im in intolerable pain with extremely high blood pressure. when on the med, I have moderate pain and great blood pressure. I just want to know any experiences of women who have had a baby while on the morphine. I want to know good or bad. birth defects or none and withdrawal or not. .
I have had horrible migranes for the last month and my doctor has suggested medication like Topamax for me to take since the Neurotin and Imitrex aren't working anymore like they should. I know that Topamax causes people to lose weight. Honestly, I could afford to lose about 50-70 pounds so Topamax wouldn't be so bad in that aspect. However, I'm worried that it may effect our chances of getting pregnant. Any advice?
Hi Mariah! This is gonna be long, I have so much to say!!!! I have read your whole story on here, which is why I started to post a question of my own. Fioricet is a makeup of acetaminophen,(tylenol), butalbital (barbiturate) and caffeine. When I read your story, I thought I was reading about myself. I often wean down to 1-2 a day.
I am 4 and 1/2 months pregnant and my doctor prescribed Vicodin for severe migraines that started right after I got pregnent. He said that the drugs weren't known to cause birth defects so because my migraines were unmanageable he gave me a limited supply. After spending the next month calling my doctor to get a 10 pill refill every 3-4 days, I explained that it was ridiculous and that he needed to give me enough until I saw him the next month (90 tablets). Little did I know what I was in for.
The topamax that I am on can cause serious birth defects... there is a vitamin you can take daily, which I do take, in case of "accidents"... but, when one is family planning, if you can AVOID being on topamax, I think you are making a good choice... if you can't avoid being on topamax, do know that there is this vitamin you can take that will allow you to have a healthy baby. Ask your doctor about it. The other anti-seizure medications you completely want to avoid.
there are people who take methadone though there whole pregnancy because the risk of with draw is worse for the baby and there babys can be born fine and methadone is synthetic heroin so im sure if you were to quit now your baby will be fine im sure oxys are not as bad as methadone
p.s. I think they took the quinine out of tonic water. It causes birth defects and can cause hemolytic anemia, among other things, in large doses. It is still available as an Rx drug, I believe -- you could talk to your doc about it.
I started taking the oxycodone regularly when I was pregnant because I suffer migraines and headaches-tension/stress. ANd as you know, couldn't take imitrex, Topamax as a preventative, Maxalt, etc. And the headaches were SO bad. I can't even explain them. I'd had them for years before, but to not be able to take anything for them was torture. I'd be in bed crying. I'd sleep in the spare office at work on the floor with blankets during my breaks. I tried Lavendar aromatherapy.
I had tried Imitrex tablets a few years ago but they made me so sick and didn't help the migrain. I am going to try nasal imitrex if I do feel a migraine coming on. But I have been pretty good this week aside from feeling a little loopy. It's better than a migrain! Thanks!
I see you are also on the Effexor XR along with Topomax - what side effects did the doctor say you would experience on coming off of the medication - to become pregnant and what are the chances of birth defects, if any?
I dont want to scare you either but xanax is catagory x meaning it is known to cause birth defects and other serious issues like down syndrom or neural deffects in an unborn baby, I take oxycodone for chronic pain and my doc says it wil lnot harm the baby but we are working together to taper myself off enough prior to delivery that my baby should not experience withdrawl at least we hope I am still doubtful but I know at this point although so far I have managed to taper each month and still ha
HAVE you tried all the medicines that are specifically for migraines. Cafecort(sp)? inderal, imitrex, midrin and others.Opiates sometimes can CAUSE migraines. Narcotics do nothing for the causess for migraine headaches. You need to have a physical if you haven't already done this to determine that you do not have a medical problem that is causing these headaches. Doctors as you know do not like to keep treating migraine headaches with narcotics.
I am battling an addiction to Vicodin stemming from a root canal which I underwent nearly 2 years ago. I have smoked pot years. Daily, in fact. It has torn me up. My confidense, my spirit; everything.
It scares me, especially since my husband had brain surgery less than 2 years ago- (symptoms completely different of course) I am 35 years old, the only time I remember hitting my head really hard is when I was in elementary school and I fell and hit my head on a tile floor. I have had a history of passing out and having seizures but the doctors never figured out for sure what caused it and it hasn't happened for a few years.
I do remember laying in bed for three days with a migraine while in college, before they had good drugs like Maxalt and Imitrex. And I remember drugs like Percocet/Darvon that made me vomit, and other narcotics that made me sleep for days.
