Common Questions and Answers about Imiquimod melanoma in situ

Avatar m tn Hello, I had a suspicious mole on my neck removed in June and it came back as mild-moderate dysplastic nevus with differential diagnosis of early melanoma in-situ. The area was re-excised with 3mm margins. Since then I have had the slides re-evaluated by UPenn Dermatopathology and their diagnosis was Severe dysplastic nevus with differential diagnosis of evolving melanoma in-situ.
Avatar m tn He peeled off the mole with nail clippers, there was no bleeding and normal skin underneath. It was located where people do thumbprints. If it was a new melanoma, would it be in situ? And it would be in the epidermis meaning that he peeled it all out PLEASEEEE HELP!!!!
Avatar f tn Got results melanoma in situ, dic said I need wide lesion excision, he said will be done in2-3 weeks .... Got appt in post for 51/2 weeks time....
Avatar f tn Thank you for your last response. I did see a dermatologist and she said the marks on my legs were sun spots. However now I have many other questions. Mt Melanoma was "in situ", which I hear is great. But now I am trying to do all I can to prevent it from coming back. I have recently read that both estrogen and vitamin C have been linked to increasing Melanoma. Is this true?
Avatar f tn My husband has been diagnosed with a melanoma in situ from his lower leg near the ankle. It will be removed in several weeks but the surgeon was very blunt that there's a good possibility that it won't heal well particularly because my husband's circulation in the lower leg is not 100%. It may require a skin graft and may not but wound care was the doctor's emphasis. Has anyone had a melanoma removed from this area and, if so, how much pain was involved?
Avatar f tn Yesterday I learned that the pathology report indicated that it was a melanoma in situ. I am leaving for Australia tomorrow on holiday for a month while my doctor arranges for me to see a dermotologist at our local cancer centre for treatment upon my return. My concern is that I have multiple freckles that look similar to the one that was removed (or perhaps look even worse). Should I be worried about these other freckles or can I just relax, enjoy my holiday and go for treatment in a month?
Avatar n tn However, a mole I had on my forearm was indeed melanoma. Luckily it was melanoma in situ. It was a small mole (smaller than pencil eraser), flat, symmetrical BUT it had two shades of brown in it. Thanks! I'm two years out from my diagnosis and doing well.
Avatar f tn My husband has been diagnosed with melanoma in situ on his lower right leg near the ankle. He will have surgery and most probably a skin graft from his thigh. The surgeon, while very honest, was not exactly cheery and emphasized that frequently these skin grafts don't take and that there is pain involved. My question is (and I know there's no way of knowing but a ballpark), how soon will he be able to drive and mobilize?
Avatar m tn Recently, had three colored areas biopsied. 1 was malignant melanoma, in situ ( I beleive this is stage 0). anyway, another procedure was done to remove the area; post surgery report indicated the margins were clear. I have been told that I need to be checked every three months and to be aware of changes to any other moles or colored areas on the skin. My question; is this enough?
Avatar m tn Surprisingly, inflammasome activation, keratinocyte death and interleukin 1 release also occur in response to the vehicle cream in the absence of imiquimod. We show that isostearic acid, a major component of the vehicle, promotes inflammasome activation in cultured keratinocytes, and so may contribute to the observed effects of Aldara on murine skin.
Avatar m tn Hi, I cant access your photo but based on what you have said it sounds like Genital Lentiginoses. Differential diagnosis does include fixed drug reaction, blue nevus, melanoma in situ and HPV-induced intrapithelal neoplasia. Caution should be taken to rule out a melanoma in situ, this is normally done via dermoscopy. I suggest you visit your GP.
Avatar f tn The mark that was found was akin colored mole, at first I was told it was nothing, but my dermatologist asked if I wanted it biopsy it anyway and I said yes. Well she called and said she made a mistake and it was melanoma in situ. I was shocked, but happy that it was caught so early. I am scheduled to have it removed in 2 weeks. But the doctor had not done a head to toe examination because she thought it was nothing... my new problem is that I am not scheduled to see her until next week.
Avatar f tn The family history of cancer is a risk factor and you are above 40 yo, and a sun lover are also a risk factor. But GOOD NEWS are they sounds like at an early stage of melanoma, probably carcinoma in-situ(stage 0).highly curable. No chemo or other treatments are needed. Only need to be cut off. BUT YOU REALLY NEED TO BE QUICK in case the melanoma is very invasive that it could invade tissues under the skin and spreads. GOOD LUCK and please inform how it turns out.
Avatar n tn Hello, These spots can be due to nevus de cocarde or sun damage. Lentigo maligna is a melanoma in situ that consists of malignant cells but does not show invasive growth. You should get it evaluated from a dermatologist and get a biopsy skin done to confirm the diagnosis. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor.
Avatar n tn I do have a history of a melanoma in-situ in 9/04 on my upper left arm, and have had numerous biopsies since then, but none have been worse than moderate atypia. Since the photographs were taken in 2004, there has been virtually no change. I even have a photograph (snapshot) taken July 9 that shows a still stable mole (different lighting, but I can tell). On July 13, I noticed that I had developed a "bump" at one end of the mole.
Avatar f tn Really? All Melanoma? I just caught one "in situ" and they swear that is the only one, but I am so stressed about every bump or mole on my body. What did the study involve? Even if it is not covered it would be worth looking into.
Avatar m tn Malignant lentigo or lentigo maligna is basically a melanoma in situ that consists of malignant cells but does not show invasive growth. It is found in elderly people and progresses very slowly and can remain in a non-invasive form for years. However when it progresses to melanoma it becomes bumpy in appearance. It is very difficult to tell the difference between a benign and malignant one with a naked eye or a dermascope.
Avatar f tn I got the pathology results, and the spot on my chest was melanoma in situ. I have already met with the plastic surgery to have the entire thing removed. I have also been back to my dermatologist for a full body check, and he said the rest of my skin looks good! So I am so happy I went in to have the dermatofibroma checked out, and that I showed him the spot on my chest! This was caught early, thankfully, so had not become invasive.
Avatar f tn Hello, Since the pathology reports has shown cellular atypia which may be due to melanotic lesion and there is a possibility of lentigo maligna, it needs further evaluation. It is a form of melanoma in situ that consists of malignant cells but does not show invasive growth. It typically progresses very slowly and can remain in a non-invasive form for years. I agree with your dermatologist as it needs further evaluation.
Avatar m tn In sum, these findings represent a sparse atypical junctional melanocytic neoplasm, the differential diagnosis for which includes early melanoma in situ. The process extends to the peripheral margin, accordingly, re-excision of the site with complete removal of the lesion is recommended. ________________________ Can anyone help interpret what these means? Your help is greatly appreciated.
Avatar m tn Hello, I cannot confirm anything without examination but it can be a birth mark or Hutchison’s melanotic freckle which is a is a subtype of melanoma in-situ and presents as tan brown stain on scalp or head and neck. I would suggest an immediate dermatologist’s evaluation to confirm the diagnosis. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided.
Avatar m tn Thank you so much for your reply. The dermatologist originally did a shave biopsy on the mole for me, just because I wanted it flat. (It is on my nose.) In an odd twist, the whole area became red and swollen after the scab came off. This is the area of the original mole and the area around it. I believe some kind of scraping was involved so I thought maybe this caused it. I was told it was not an infection or scar tissue as I went back to be evaluated.
Avatar f tn Melanoma in situ. I know melanoma is the worst but a quick google search shows that in situ is the "best of the worst" so to speak, as it is considered Stage 0, not even stage one, so I am grateful for that at least. Any information, experience anyone can share on this diagnosis in particular would be appreciated. I am trying to be strong and I know I need to be supportive of my Mom, but I can't help feeling so d**n angry that this could have been avoided.

Avatar m tn Does it look like something other than a condyloma? Perhaps a melanoma in situ, seborrheic keratosis, or perhaps a bowenoid papulosis? I know this is a dermatology question, but ultimately, I will need a urologist to remove this spot because the surgery is too complex for a dermatologist. Thanks.
558632 tn?1303471125 Received this from Shari: Dear Kim: You know, you are the first person to even write to me since I "vanished" after my January results. I did not "get better and leave". I have a blood test next week, so I don't even know where I am with my Thyroid. Where have I been? Sick with worry. My brother has a malignant melanoma (the deadliest form of skin cancer) on his foot, and I take him for surgery this Friday.
