After reviewing the medications I was already taking (to avoid any conflicts) she recommended Lamotrigine for my intense anxiety. I am VERY familiar with off-label drug uses, but I can find no information re: the use of this drug for my situation. It is a drug used for bi-polar disorder and seizures. I thought that Atavan would be the drug of choice, and after reading more about Lamotrigine, I have become actually quite shocked about this recommendation.
My daughter has over active bladder/IC. We have differing opinions on this from several doctors. My question is not how to cure it, I have gotten the idea that there is no cure. My question is how can a 24 year old young lady live with this? What kind of live can she expect? How can she hope to hold a job, have a boy friend and a family?
She cannot sleep through the night and as many of you have stated, she uses the bathroom a lot during the day. No pain just huge pressure.
hi i'm new to the group and happy to find some info on IC. I have had out infections my whole life or so i thought! 2 yrs. ago i had another doctor for a few months while mine was on maternity leave after going in every 2 to 4 weeks with a uti she said "this is not normal and im going to start testing yr. urine."...all the further tests came back negative for bacteria but there is always blood and protein in my urine. So she said i have IC and there is no known cure....
It may be because after the body uses simple sugars, carbohydrates breaks down next for energy & if the body with dysautonomia gets higher amounts of carbs, it's like an overload of energy to our messed up bodies? I know I have a problem with large meals or with a meal like pancakes and syrup or when I drink a some soda w/sugar in it (I try to let it go fairly flat due to having IC).
Only a few interactions between lamotrigine and other drugs have been identified. Lamotrigine increases the plasma level of carbamazepine and its metabolites. Carbamazepine lowers the concentration of lamotrigine in the blood.
Valproate doubles the plasma level of lamotrigine, and the level of valproate is decreased by about 25% in people taking lamotrigine.
Phenobarbital and primidone lower the plasma level of lamotrigine by about 40%.
I think they're confused. If you read the full prescribing information, it's the PILL that screws with the lamotrigine, not the other way around. It's not like a lot of other anticonvulsants. I am currently taking Wellbutrin XL 300mg, Lamotrigine 25 mg, Zyrtec, Levothyroxine 75mg, and Atenolol 50mg.
I started Lamotrigine (lamictal generic) 2 weeks ago. On day 9, I developed severe diarrhea and cramps. It was slowed down with 1 pill of Immodium, but after 2 days I decided to eat a "regular" meal and got diarrhea again. So it's been on an off for 6 days, and this morning it was worse than it was the first day!

HI, I have IC and am an IC support group leader. Because doctors now feel that IC is actually a number of illness, it is being called IC/Painful Bladder Syndrome. The inflamed bladder can only be confirmed by an in office cystoscope in 10% of the case, because some patients have hunner's ulcers. The glomerations can only be found with hydrodestention under anesthesia, however our support group recently watched the ICA DVD by Dr.
hi- i'm a new member of this site, but a long time sufferer of IC, it really depends on getting good dr's, and i mean, dr's from big hospitals that see IC all of the time, because it wasn't until i got into one of Boston's big hospitals that they really 1)understood my symptoms 2) had experience with them so knew what Else to try when all the good ole stand-bys didn't work, and 3)explained it all to me in a way that i could understand, and could believe that they weren
Do think there will ever be a cure for IC? I don't know about how it is now. But when I was DX it was very hard, are dr's more senstive to IC now?
Since being on lamotrigine I have had broken sleep and weird dreams- anyone else had this? ALso at the moment I'm waking in early hours with tingling/itching in my feet. I have tried alsorts to relive it- the best I have found is to get and ice pack from the freezer and put that on. I hope freezing my feet doesn't do any harm! I think I'm going to gradually come off the lamotrigine cos it hasn't made any difference to my symptoms anyway.
Hi, I have seen no data on wemen with IC having an increased incidence of miscarriages. Obviously, any women can have a miscarriage, and any women can have IC, that doesn't mean one caused the other. Because both problems involve different organs (uterus vrs bladder) its hard to postulate a cause and effect. Most patients do very well during pregnancy with IC and find that their symptoms dramatically improve. The reasons are unclear. Check the ICA website: ichelp.
is it safe to take lamotrigine when u have hepatitis c? My psychiatrist just started me on 25 mg..is it safe for my liver..I'm not being treated for my hep c..any info will help..
I take 200 mg of the generic, Lamotrigine but I have taken as much as 400mg. I have never had a problem with mania from it. However, lamotrigine works best in keeping depression away and does little in deterring mania. The mania you have been having may have nothing to do with lamotrigine but because it doesn't do anything for it when it comes on. Other mood stabilizers, like lithium and Depakote work well for mania. I would discuss the option of adding one of them to the lamotrigine.
