ibuprofen with codeine

I broke my finger around 7 weeks and was prescribed tylenol with codeine after the doctor realized I couldn't have ibuprofen. You should ask your doctor first, because I don't know if different proportions of tylenol and codeine could make a difference. For a cold, though, my doctor told me Robitussin DM and cough drops were safe during pregnancy. Tea with honey did better for my sore throat than cough drops did.

I just purchased 200 mg ibuprofen/12.8 mg codeine (package of 96) online from a drugstore. It said it was an over the counter drug and I want to make sure I'm not doing anything illegal. Does anyone know if this is okay to purchase online? I live in Florida and sure don't want to end up in trouble over something so minor. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks!!

I can say for sure that yes tylenol with codeine is a narcotic. Whether its ok to take for legit pain is a matter of opinion. I took it for bronchitis and it lead to a relapse.. so if you are going to take it - be careful and keep it in check.

This is what Dr. D. replied to a similar question on the expert forum "Tylenol, contrary to popular belief is OK to take if you have HCV, just no more than 4-6 per day. Ibuprofen is also good if your stomach is OK with it and you take it with food. Stronger stuff like opiates are also OK if necessary, but easy to become addicted to if you are not careful. DTD" BTW, codeine is an opiate... Codeine is usually prescribed together with either paracetamol or ibuprofen.

I have always used products that contain codeine for my migraines such as paracetamol/codeine, ibuprofen/codeine, paracetamol/doxylamine/codeine etc. Do other people use these types of meds? Why do you use them? Is it because you find they work better than meds without codeine? Advertising on the pack/tv? Advice from health professional/friend? Thanks!

This was about 1 1/2 years ago, neuro stimulator placed doing well with pain control using ibuprofen and Tylenol #4. However according to PM Dr. last 3 dit have shown increased amounts of hydrocodone. I take ibuprofen, Tylenol #4, Prozac, diazyde, devastating, multivitamin, exception, and a topical compound which is formulated under Dr. order. I do not take hydrocodone. I am allergic to hydrocodone. I am at my wits end, what would cause this false positive.

The ibuprofen is more physically harmful than the codeine (with the exception of overdose, when codeine will kill person through respiratory depression just as will other opiates, particularly if combined with valium-type meds or alcohol). Ibuprofen, in high amounts for years, will cause ulcers and kidney failure. Three years of that much ibuprofen is enough to cause fatal kidney failure in some sensitive people.

If there is no narcotic other then codeine its just Ibuprofen. Better see your Doctor and tell whats going on. See about a NA meeting they got most of the answers you need. Keep posting someone will help you.

I just need to have you clear up one thing first: What do you mean you cut the pill in half and that gets rid of the ibuprofen? If it is like the tablets I know the ibuprofen is not divided so you can "cut" it away. It is mixed in with the codeine to makeup the one pill. The pills are marked with a middle line just to cut the dose in half to half the dose but not to remove one of the chemicals. To taper the codeine just take less and less of your regular amount.

And also dextropropoxyphene, which has now been taken off the market. You will probably be given something with codeine and ibuprofen in it, as well as probably another drug in the mild opioid category :) Good luck!

When I was pregnant with my son I had to have a wisdom tooth pulled and the dentist gave me Tylenol with codeine, which you need a prescription for. I would talk to your dentist, but make sure they know you are pregnant. Hope you feel better soon.

However tylenol with codeine (tylenol 3) is as effective as the nonsteroidal antiinflammatory agents like ibuprofen and diclofenac. The therapy may have to be personalised also. You could start with ibuprofen, and if not completely effective, you may try tylenol 3. Best..

Hello - this was me about 6/7 years ago. I don't want to scare u but I developed three stomach ulcers bcz of the ibuprofen. Pure codeine is 'safer' in that respect. I'm not saying it's safe to binge on codeine but jus making you aware that u must protect ur stomach - keep that in mind cz ulcers r extremely painful and dangerous. Good luck with ur taper tho - make sure u stick with it until it gets too late like it did for me..

s actually ibuprofen in Neurofen but the above cautions are justified. A dose of 16 x 200mg ibuprofen in a day is more than twice the safe dose for ibuprofen. A recent study found that people who regularly take high doses of ibuprofen had 3 times the risk of gastric bleeding so yes there is a very real risk for you. You are also risking potentially irreversible kidney damage with this sort of dosing, so here's another incentive to get some help.

Got sick of all the tummy issues with taking that much ibuprofen so went to the docs and have now been prescribed codeine phosphate for the past 6 years.. i thort it was a healthier alternative, and it prob is, but now, im just sooo sick and tired of counting pills, running out early and the resultant constipation!! Im not even sure if i still have the bad back that started all this off anymore, its been sooo long, apart from my 2 pregnancies, that ive been on them..

I have been taking between 6-10 extra strength tylenol everyday for a least a month now. My doctor doesn't seem overly concerned. Should I be concerned about the amount and be seeking another type of pain reliever. Can't take anything with caffiene/codeine in it.Thanks.

Nurofen plus , now that will give you a high it has codeine in it and cause you can eat alot of them as opposed to panadiene with paracetemol in it ( i think americans call it acetemophen ),, providing you have food with it, yea it will give you quite a buzz, thats my experience. Ibuprofen like the last poster said , by itself will not do much at all. except take some pain away especialy if its accociated with inflamation. but can work well for headaches.

The top of my left shoulder is quite painful to the touch. I've tried ibuprofen tablets and gel, also paracetamol and codeine tablets. I've previously had some worries about chest pain being angina although all tests for this are negative. The pain goes into my neck a bit when I press my shoulder, I'm fairly happy this pain is not heart related. But wonder what I can do to treat it.

Day 11 now, phoned doctor and told him what was going on, I told him went through withdrawal, Have to go to get liver test in months time. I know I have an ulcer I can feel it. I cant take ibuprofen any more cos of it. What if it doesn't heel. What can I do t help the liver...............before the test and after.

opiates will make your spew, but i dont think the codeine even in high doses makes you sick, iv had 240mg of codeine before and it just makes you feel real high for a couple of hours, ulcers would be causing him pain,so im not so sure if its ulcers.HOw many is he taking at one time?

I really don't see how that's possible it's made up from codeine and ibuprofen. I do no that prolonged use or abusing the drug can damage the stomach, for which they make another drug to protect the stomach now. Of course because of the codeine it can be very addictive if abused, be careful opiates are a nightmare to get off!!

Tylenol should never exceed 3000mg a day and be avoided by people with severe liver problems. I would express your concerns with your doctor. If you are in doubt, like it sounds you are, don't take them. Hope you get pain relief.

I was prescribe Meloxicam and tynolol with codiene,is this a good combination for severe arthritis?

As far as the codiene/foricet I find it to do little now. I think sometimes just an Ibuprofen helps as much. Personally I agree with Dragonhater, get whatever you can from your doctor to make yourself comfortable.
