I would suggest taking the smallest dosage of Ibuprofen possible and stay under the total limit allowed for a 24 hr period and stop taking it when you don't need it anymore. Long answer: Vicodin contains paracetamol & hydrocodone, and Zoloft contains sertraline. paracetamol is a non-opioid analgesic, hydrocodone is an opioid, and sertaline is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI). The label on my bottle says to not take the tenofovir with ibuprofen. What analgesic a person can safely take is dictated by the stage of liver disease, not the treatment drugs or any other factor. Only folks with stage 4 liver disease (cirrhosis) need to be concerned and limited in the analgesics they take. Others with lesser liver disease can use anything that is effective for them. Patients with cirrhosis should ONLY use acetaminophen (Tylenol, Paracetamol) for minor pain relief and fever reduction up to the dosage their hepatologist recommends.

Karen, Your platelets are already low, and NSAIDs can increase the risk for bleeding; imho, acetaminophen over the ibuprofen, hands down. With low platelets from tx and a compromised liver and kidney system, any of the NSAIDs are contra-indicated for you (includes Motrin, Advil, Aleve). Tylenol is not to be taken indiscriminately either, though. With cirrhosis, no more than 2000 mg per day max (that means no more than 4 Extra Strength Tylenol in any 24 hour period).

I posted this on one of my other discussions - so sorry if it seems repetitive. The pain hit as I was trying - yet again - to catch some sleep. I just couldn't lie comfortably. I finally gave in & took 2 paracetamol & 2 amitriptyline which my dr said would take the edge off the pain. It's codeine that I'm trying to quit - and I didn't take it - but I felt I needed something to numb the pain! Have I failed?
