Avatar f tn Maria is right, get to an ER. You could do serious liver damage, but either way you're going to make your stomach bleed. That's a lot of Ibuprofen.
Avatar m tn This past 2 weeks I was ill with the h1n1 virus. During the 2 weeks, I consumed over 50 200mg pills of ibuprofen. I have had blood work done twice (5 days ago and 2 days ago). Both resulted in increased liver enzymes. I haven't had any ibuprofen in 4 days. Is it possible that my liver enzyme increase is a result of the "overdose" with the ibuprofen. My doctor has scheduled another blood work screening in two weeks. Will my liver enzymes decrease in this amount of time?
Avatar m tn Researches have reported that the threshold for liver damage to start from a single paracetamol overdose is 15 gms (30 tablets). However liver damage could start to occur at a single overdose of 24 standard tablets or 150 mg/kg body weight, (whichever is the smaller). The overdose border or threshold may be lowered in a person on prescription medicines, or someone who is an alcoholic or is undernourished to some extent.

Avatar f tn Taking more than the recommended dose (overdose) of acetaminophen may cause liver damage. In small doses (less than 4 grams per day, or eight pills taken over a twenty-four hour period of time) acetaminophen is quite safe for the liver—unless combined with alcoholic beverages. Acetaminophen is the recommended medication for relieving minor aches, pains, and headaches in people with liver disease.

Avatar n tn Neither of them is completely safe. From what I learned, if you have little or no liver damage, you can use either ibuprofen or acetaminophen. But if your liver damage is more advanced, acetaminophen is safer AS LONG AS YOU DON'T OVERDOSE IT OR MIX IT WITH ALCOHOL. Be careful that acetaminophen is in a lot of other medications and if you take those PLUS your own acetaminophen, you might be overdosing it.
Avatar m tn Can someone give me either the symptoms or the timeline for an Ibuprofen overdose? And what's going to happen if I don't get treatment? I've taken approx. 40 200mg ibuprofen tablets, 32 hours ago.

Avatar f tn Hello KCB7, The recommendation on the Tylenol bottle for a maximum dose of 4000 mg daily is a precaution taken to avoid potential liver toxicity & damage. This does not mean that individuals who take more than 4000 mg will experience liver damage & liver failure, it simply means that the risk of liver damage increases.
1580703 tn?1651904887 my AST/ALT was 80/250 and I have liver damage from surgery, I think it was the tyenol/Percocet the hospital gave me can taking n acetyl cysteine help? Avatar n tn You should be just fine unless you have an allergy to ibuprofen. Prescription Motrin is 800mg of Ibuprofen so that is the equivalent of four of the 200mg Ibuprofen. If you don't break out in a rash or have breathing difficulties after taking one or two Ibuprofen, please don't lose sleep over taking a third. As I said, as long as you can take Ibuprofen in the first place without having a problem, three won't bother you.
Avatar f tn Ever since i came back home my body has been acting funny and i am having extreme pain (it feels like my right kidney but it seems a little low to be my kidney) and i was wondering if there could have been some internal damage that would not have shown up right after the overdose but a little bit after? Should I be concerned or is this just my body trying to fix it's self?
Avatar f tn The problem with ibuprofen or tylenol is that you can cause liver damage that doesn't manifest immediately. An amount like 10,000 is too much for the liver to absorb at one time, and there can be considerable damage that you don't realize at this time. I think you should go to a physician, relate what you have told us, and get appropriate testing. Also, maybe some therapy.....that's helpful usuallly to everyone. Keep me posted. Good luck and God bless.
Avatar f tn Nurofen contains ibuprofen, and the 'plus' is codeine. Codeine is converted to morphine in the liver (to varying degrees in different cultural populations), so from a practical standpoint there is no difference between an addiction to nurophen vs any other opiate, such as oxycodone or heroin.
Avatar n tn Idiosyncratic reactions usually cause damage to the liver specifically but can also affect the kidneys and gastrointestinal tract. These reactions may occur after days to months of Rimadyl® administration. Avatar m tn Symptoms associated with damage to the liver include jaundiced skin, gums, inside of ears, and sclera (whites of the eyes) as well as vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite and lethargy. Diagnosis A history of Rimadyl® administration or accidental ingestion of an inappropriately high dose of Rimadyl® is helpful to your veterinarian in determining the cause of your pet's illness.
Avatar n tn In April, 2009, the FDA ordered new labeling to draw attention to the potential for liver damage from acetaminophen overdose and stomach bleeds from nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory agents. “Acetaminophen is a common reason to need a new liver,” said Maurizio Bonacini, MD, liver transplant specialist at California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco, who headed the FDA petition project. “Every week we have patients who have run into trouble with acetaminophen toxicity.
Avatar n tn I DO think you have done some pretty bad damage to your liver with the overdose of tylenol and added alcohol intake. Will it kill you today? Unlikely, but it is urgent for you be seen by a doctor, and very soon. If your only option is the ER, so be it. Bring a book and a pillow for the wait.
Avatar f tn In the next 24 to 72 hours, the early symptoms start to go away, but liver damage starts to occur. The first symptom of liver damage is usually upper-right abdominal pain or tenderness (near the liver), and a healthcare provider may notice that the liver is enlarged. After this, liver failure may occur, causing symptoms such as: * Yellow eyes and skin (jaundice) * Dark urine * Confusion * Low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) * Bleeding * Nausea and vomiting.
