Ibuprofen liver problems

Common Questions and Answers about Ibuprofen liver problems

ibuprofen

Avatar f tn The problem with ibuprofen or tylenol is that you can cause liver damage that doesn't manifest immediately. An amount like 10,000 is too much for the liver to absorb at one time, and there can be considerable damage that you don't realize at this time. I think you should go to a physician, relate what you have told us, and get appropriate testing. Also, maybe some therapy.....that's helpful usuallly to everyone. Keep me posted. Good luck and God bless.

Avatar m tn According to research institutes, Ibuprofen overdose damages your internal organs like liver. While in some cases it has been reported that it has result in a permanent liver damage, in other cases where the victim was taking the dose for a long and continued period it has resulted in organ failure one by one.
Avatar m tn This past 2 weeks I was ill with the h1n1 virus. During the 2 weeks, I consumed over 50 200mg pills of ibuprofen. I have had blood work done twice (5 days ago and 2 days ago). Both resulted in increased liver enzymes. I haven't had any ibuprofen in 4 days. Is it possible that my liver enzyme increase is a result of the "overdose" with the ibuprofen. My doctor has scheduled another blood work screening in two weeks. Will my liver enzymes decrease in this amount of time?
Avatar n tn I recently went to a G.I. doctor. I had some liver tests done and my liver enzymes came back "slightly elevated". Back in 2005 my AST & ALT were at 17 * 18. They currently register at 46 & 48 for AST & ALT. I am a 29 yr. old female w/ a number of gastrointestinal problems. I was born without a gall bladder, I have irritable bowel syndrome and I quite possibly over use ibuprofen, taking as much as 800-1600mg/ day. Are these levels high?
7758733 tn?1402589420 Killer headaches, and never any Tylenol around. Ibuprofen can't be that bad huh? Got to go to work and this headache must go.
1148241 tn?1294052796 Anything you ingest by mouth is eventually going to go through your liver. From what I've read, ibuprofen isn't as hard on the liver as tylenol (acetomenaphen or paracetamol), but still be careful to take no more than what the label says, and tell your doctor you're taking it. If it works, your doctor may direct you to take more than what's on the label, but again, follow instructions, dosage and timing carefully. Stay away from the "extra strength" formulas.
Avatar n tn i have back pain , pelvis pain, right back side ribs cage pain, doc advice me to take ibuprofen tablet as mine result is good. i m hepatitis b patient is it safe to take ibuprofen 600mg...?
Avatar f tn Studies have demonstrated that at certain dosages, ibuprofen can stress the liver and elevate liver enzymes in people with Hepatitis C. Ibuprofen must be used with extreme caution in the later stages of liver disease and for those on interferon therapy. 3. Aspirin – (Bayer, Anacin, Excedrin and others) reduces fever, relieves pain, and acts as an anti-inflammatory and blood thinner.
Avatar f tn t get rid of it, I have last stage Cirrhosis, am going to need a liver transplant before long, this can be taken safely with liver disease and hepatitis.
Avatar n tn You can take three a day but no more because it could affect your kidneys. Tylenol is hard on the liver. Ask your doctor. The 800mg. Ibuprofen is an anti-inflamatory. It helps me a lot. I can't take Tylenol because of my liver problems, but you should get some good relief from Ibuprofen...
1323278 tn?1298122488 Acetaminophen far below the toxic dose taken on a daily basis can lead to liver damage. While ibuprofen can upset the stomach, there is a second drug, Cytotec (Misoprostol) that can protect your stomache while taking NSAIDs There are also enteric coated NSAIDs that do not dissolve in the stomach but dissolve in the intestines. We should always let our doctors know all of the medication, including over the counter, herbal supplements, vitamins and other substances (Medical Marijuana?
1153837 tn?1264209232 my liver enzymes r 742,000 and i have diabetis plus hernited disc with sediatic nerve damagem need knee replacment, haveing steriod injections in back,i want to know if i can take like lorcet for pain?
Avatar m tn I myself have liver problems and the answer to your question would be the Darvocet. While Ibuprofen is hard on the stomach itself and does have a negative effect on the liver, the tylenol in the darvocet will have a greater negative effect because of it's compound. Neither is good for the liver but if you were to choose the safer of the two, it's the Ibuprofen. I have done my share of research on the effects of medications on the liver. I have to be so careful of what I take.
1654058 tn?1407159066 Karen, Your platelets are already low, and NSAIDs can increase the risk for bleeding; imho, acetaminophen over the ibuprofen, hands down. With low platelets from tx and a compromised liver and kidney system, any of the NSAIDs are contra-indicated for you (includes Motrin, Advil, Aleve). Tylenol is not to be taken indiscriminately either, though. With cirrhosis, no more than 2000 mg per day max (that means no more than 4 Extra Strength Tylenol in any 24 hour period).
Avatar f tn This allows my liver to clear the medication easier, I also make sure to keep my body well hydrated too and drink plenty of water because dehaydration in itself can cause a lot of health issues including headaches, body pains, cloudy thinking, kidney and liver problems, on and on, so far so good , my health is excellent and truth is having hepatitis C forced me to be more aware of how I take care of myself and before I had hepatitis I was very overweight, smoked and didnt really pay too much at
Avatar f tn Can Ibuprofen cause dizziness, ear pain, stuffiness, and feelings of passing out if taken several times a week?
973741 tn?1342342773 Most of the newer ones are also tied into heart problems as well as liver problems. Probably why.
Avatar m tn html If I were you I would discuss this with my MD because your MD knows the condition of your liver and other problems you may have. Therefore he/she can make an informed decision/opinion based on your medical problems. Any medication you take, even creams and ointments, should be cleared with your doctor. Also, many doctors use a specialty pharmacy and want all meds to go through that pharmacy to be sure there are no interactions with the triple med. treatment. I hope this helps.
Avatar m tn Great information. I've done the OTC meds and that's what took me to Mobic/Meloxicam. My doctor did the preauthorization and that's what was denied. I don't even know if Celebrex is going to bet miracle. I will go to their website and see if I can get some discount coupons. Just for general information to anyone that cares..... I have seen a top gastroantonologist (spelling) who killed the myth about Tylenol and liver function.
Avatar n tn Ibuprofen is not recomended at all during pregnacy!
