Avatar f tn After acetaminophen became readily available in 1960 as an over-the-counter medication, it became one of the most popular means of attempting suicide. For liver injury to occur, acetaminophen must generally be consumed in quantities exceeding 15 grams within a short period of time, such as in a single dose. Although uncommon, ingestion of 7 to 10 grams at one time may cause liver damage.
1148241 tn?1294052796 Anything you ingest by mouth is eventually going to go through your liver. From what I've read, ibuprofen isn't as hard on the liver as tylenol (acetomenaphen or paracetamol), but still be careful to take no more than what the label says, and tell your doctor you're taking it. If it works, your doctor may direct you to take more than what's on the label, but again, follow instructions, dosage and timing carefully. Stay away from the "extra strength" formulas.
572021 tn?1330905654 She says it is severe and does not respond to ibuprofen or any other medications that she has tried. She has been running me to doctors to months also suffering from upper right quadrant pain which cannot seem to be diagnosed. All they can say is she has fatty liver but her enzymes are fine so the pain shouldn't be from that and her gallbladder tests all came back normal. I don't know if these two are related. Any ideas would be appreciated.
Avatar f tn Many conditions can cause high SGPT like liver inflammation, fatty liver, injury to the muscles, myocardial infarction, and acute kidney failure. Fatty liver is the common cause of mildly elevated SGPT. Refrain from alcohol. See a physician and get evaluated for determining the above possibilities. Treatment will depend on the exact cause of your symptoms. Keep me posted with more queries. Best luck and regards!
Avatar f tn The problem with ibuprofen or tylenol is that you can cause liver damage that doesn't manifest immediately. An amount like 10,000 is too much for the liver to absorb at one time, and there can be considerable damage that you don't realize at this time. I think you should go to a physician, relate what you have told us, and get appropriate testing. Also, maybe some therapy.....that's helpful usuallly to everyone. Keep me posted. Good luck and God bless.
Avatar m tn I started passing liver stones, and flushed out another 60 of them with additional liver flush treatments. Liver stones are gall stones that congest the liver, made up of old bile, bacteria, toxins, and sometimes parasites. They congest the liver diminishing its detox abilities resulting in reduced health. I'm not sure if the liver weakens the back or the tweeked back weakens the liver. Regardless, they are connected in some manner.
Avatar m tn And now since that i always get a heaviness/achiness in that arm, which makes me worry a bit and i just end up taking pain killers thinking im having a migraine. Im getting worried about these headaches and the amount of tablets im taking ibuprofen/paracetamol, I need advice?
Avatar f tn t get rid of it, I have last stage Cirrhosis, am going to need a liver transplant before long, this can be taken safely with liver disease and hepatitis.
Avatar f tn Over-the-counter meds like Tylenol and NSAIDs like Ibuprofen and Naproxen Sodium can also cause elevated liver enzymes. Statins taken for cholesterol often cause elevated liver enzymes and also some common antibiotics. Exposure to certain toxins in the home or workplace can be the cause also. Here's an article that lists some medications that can result in elevated liver enzymes: http://www.medicinenet.com/drug_induced_liver_disease/page8.
Avatar m tn Can Kidney pain be a side effect of taking Ibuprofen? I was taking ibuprofen last week consecutively for 3 days (400mg t.i.d) after laser eye surgery. A day or so after starting it I experienced mild pain/discomfort in my left flank that came in waves. When I stopped taking the ibuprofen the flank pain also stopped. The next day I took one more dose - the flank pain started again within an hour, but was gone the next day.
1323278 tn?1298122488 Acetaminophen far below the toxic dose taken on a daily basis can lead to liver damage. While ibuprofen can upset the stomach, there is a second drug, Cytotec (Misoprostol) that can protect your stomache while taking NSAIDs There are also enteric coated NSAIDs that do not dissolve in the stomach but dissolve in the intestines. We should always let our doctors know all of the medication, including over the counter, herbal supplements, vitamins and other substances (Medical Marijuana?
Avatar n tn The GGT test typically helps to detect liver and bile duct injury - such as the bile duct obstruction you've read about. While some doctors use it in all people they suspect of having liver disease, others use it only to help explain the cause of other changes or if they want to find out about 'alcohol use.' For example, both ALP and GGT are elevated in disease of the bile ducts and in some liver diseases, but only ALP will be elevated in bone disease.
Avatar n tn This morning I received an injury to my face which forced my teeth through my bottom lip and knocked out one of my teeth which was reseated. They gave me morphine by injection at the ER and prescribed Vicodin and said I could take that as soon as I got home. The Vicodin worked at first and I fell asleep. When I awoke, I was in excruciating pain, worse than when the injury first happened. It was 2 hrs before I can have another Vidodin so I took 800mg of ibuprofen.
1654058 tn?1407159066 Karen, Your platelets are already low, and NSAIDs can increase the risk for bleeding; imho, acetaminophen over the ibuprofen, hands down. With low platelets from tx and a compromised liver and kidney system, any of the NSAIDs are contra-indicated for you (includes Motrin, Advil, Aleve). Tylenol is not to be taken indiscriminately either, though. With cirrhosis, no more than 2000 mg per day max (that means no more than 4 Extra Strength Tylenol in any 24 hour period).

4507179 tn?1355632892 3) Unless you know the cause of your liver disease and can stop the injury cirrhosis leads to serious life-threatening complication and you will need a liver transplant to stay alive. “I tested positive for Hep C, but viral load is 0 right now” - You can’t be chronically infected with hepatitis C and have a 0 viral load. Maybe you have antibodies to hepatitis C and where never infected. - Find out if you are infected with hepatitis C by having the HCV RNA viral load test.
