First off, I have not even suggested meds, I'm not sure where that comes from. The only point I'm making is based on the most recent information released. Based on recent studies it has been determined that our diets only account for 10% of our lipid levels therefore someone who needs to drop their lipids by 30% won't get there with changes in diet alone. This is a simple assumption as their current diet is already influencing their lipids.
Being overweight does not mean that that is a cause of high cholesterol. I am very overweight at the moment and my bad cholesterol levels have never been high. I do eat a lot of fresh fruit, salads and vegetables. I do not eat a lot of red meat (but do love beef which we have as a special treat - mainly because beef is more expensive that other meat products).

Usually diet and exercise is the best first place to start, but with an LDL this high I would probably recommend starting a cholesterol lowering medication as well, such as a statin (e.g. atorvastatin, simvastatin).
I received my blood test last week to find out that all of my cholesterol levels were high risk. Specifically, my cholesterol count was 249. I am 33 years old, don't smoke, and weigh 155. Has anybody else had their cholesterol go sky high - I just got a call from doctor who said my triglycerides are 1760 where as a year ago it was 127. Has started me on medicine and said come back in 6 weeks. Any input is appreciated.
I just my physical done two weeks ago and my doctor called me back telling me that my cholesterol is very high and that she needed to increased my synthroid (thyroid replacement medicine) from 150 mcg to 175 mcg. The reason for the increase she says was because my thyroid is "sluggish"? So I asked her if my thyroid being sluggish has anything to do with my high cholesterol and her answer was no. Could this be related? Isn't part of the thyroid function to control your metabolism?

QUIT smoking or vaping. This causes a myriad of issues and is linked to high ldl cholesterol. For triglycerides, alcohol is a big culprit. Also true . . . drinking alcohol raises blood pressure. Eat whole grains and avoid sugar.
Niacin (*** check with doctor first before taking!!) and B vitamins (okay to take on your own) are also said to help.

I went to Boston children's hospital to look a little closer at baby because Im high risk and they found a small abnormality , one of the tubes that bypass babys lungs is a little narrow :-( they asked if I ever took ibuprofen and I have a few times , the doctors daid thays what its from so plz don't take it

My B12 was 769.0 I am not too sure on which ones are which on the Cholesterol as it said Cholesterol fasting 120 low, but then Triglycerides 71, HDL 45 LDL calc 61. VLDL calc 14.2. Chol/HDL LDL/HDL Ratio 1.ratio 2.7 and 4 TSH 3rd gen .743 are all normal...
Can Kidney pain be a side effect of taking Ibuprofen? I was taking ibuprofen last week consecutively for 3 days (400mg t.i.d) after laser eye surgery. A day or so after starting it I experienced mild pain/discomfort in my left flank that came in waves. When I stopped taking the ibuprofen the flank pain also stopped.
The next day I took one more dose - the flank pain started again within an hour, but was gone the next day.
213, HDL: 98, LDL, 119, Total to High ratio: 2. My physician is considering a cholesterol lowering medication for me. I am resistent to taking medication since the HDL and ratio are so good.
