Common Questions and Answers about Ibuprofen for period cramps

ibuprofen

Avatar f tn Is it true you shouldn't take ibuprofen it can harm the baby? I just seen this today while doing research as to this is my first. i have been taking it before I found out I was thinking my period was coming and I've always had bad cramps so I know to start taking it before my period comes to help with the pain. Should I be worried that I've harmed the baby from taking it? I'm 5 weeks BTW.
Avatar f tn The poster will have to decide on her own but I think it is rare for the general population to have an issue with Ibuprofen taken for occasional cramps. I personally would take ibuprofen for a cramp and wouldn't recommend that if I thought it was risky. luck to the poster.
Avatar n tn Have you taken simple ibuprofen? This works well for me with regards to cramps and pains.
Avatar n tn The first and second days of my period I get HORRIBLE cramps to the point where I want to vomit, can't walk, sleep or do anything. I try ibuprofen and it never helps. Is this normal?
Avatar f tn I drastically cut my dairy intake, no milk, no yoghurt, only occasionally a bit of cheese or dessert with dairy in it, for an entirely different reason: I thought this might help with migraine, but instead found it drastically reduced my period pain. I do not use ibuprofen or any other painkillers for period pain anymore at all. I've also found my period is lighter and shorter.
Avatar f tn I struggle with back pain, leg pain, abdominal cramps, headaches, and stomach aches during my period as well as stabbing ovulation pain and PMS cramps in the weeks leading up to my period. I am stuck taking ibuprofen and Tylenol, but as of recently taking these painkillers seems to be less effective in dealing with my pain. Also, I sometimes get awful nausea after taking ibuprofen. I don’t want to hurt myself with painkillers, but I also don’t want to be in pain all day.
Avatar f tn You will go thru a lot of that at first and then it sorta slows down. But I always thought they felt like period cramps. Just drink longs and lots of water will help and you can take 2 tylenol for the pain is fine during pregnancy.
Avatar f tn do i need to take everyday for cramps because i do not have a man i.e am not preventing pregnancy. Its only cramps and pimples giving me hard time.
Avatar f tn As the above poster mentioned, Ibuprofen in any of its forms (Advil and Motrin along with some other pain meds--read the label--have ibuprofen) can help with period cramps. For me, acetaminophen (Tylenonl) has always been better. Heating pads can also be of use, but you can't sleep with one. You can make a rice sock (or get one of those pads that have them) to heat in the microwave before bed then utilize that to help as that won't keep heating up all night.
Avatar f tn I also put smth hot, cramps are caused by mussles spasming too fast and too tight. So you need to relax. Also before period do some belly exersises. It alsi helps.
Avatar f tn I have had one ultrasound done at age 18 but the doctor did not find anything suspicious. They didn’t diagnose the reason for my heavy period or extreme cramps but just prescribed me the pill qlaira which I took for about a year and a half. It didn’t really help with the cramps but it helped with the heavy period. After I went off the pill my cramps got way worse for a while. Now they are back to how they were before.
Avatar n tn t do anything about your inflamed uterus which is causing the dysmenorrhea (period cramps pain). Drink lots of water and use a heating pack on and off for about ten minutes at a time!
Avatar f tn I was not able to get an appt. with OBGYN so I went to the ER for my cramps but they just gave me ibuprofen. They also could not see anything in ultrasound so we assumed it was too early. I did misstated with the first pregnancy and I'm worried about the awful cramps which I am taking acetaminophen every 4-6 hours for ... Has anyone else dealt with this before?
Avatar m tn But this will only last for about a day or two and then the rest of my period ( that lasts for about 5-6 days) I am perfectly fine. no cramps at all and no need for ibprofen... Its like my body jams all my cramp pains up into the first two days and then decides its done torturing me. My question is what can i take instead of my massive amount of ibprofen?
Avatar f tn Medication is not necessary at this time from the sounds of it. But if it is muscle aches and/or cramps, ,ibuprofen helps.
Avatar n tn Your body is preparing to shed the unfertilized ovum and symptoms such as breast and back pain, cramps and hunger are usual before a period.
Avatar f tn , Advil, Midol) should work better because Ibuprofen helps with swelling in addition to pain. Personally, I find the Ibuprofen-based only helps me with my back ache and not the cramps whereas Tylenol (acetamenophin-based) helps me with my cramps. As far as when-you-can-just-sit-around methods (perhaps in conjunction with the pain med of your choice): Heating pads can help. Curling up into a tight ball or sitting with your knees to your chest can help.
Avatar n tn Take as much ibuprofen that you can in a day(about 2-3pills but check your weight and look up the dosages)
Avatar f tn t suggest it. Ibuprofen is good but for me Naproxen (aleve) works best for cramps. Also those single use heating pads that are available in the first aid section of the pharmacy are awesome. They last for several hours. They are available specifically for cramps.
1729448 tn?1342094737 Does anyone know any ways to relieve pain during your period? I usually don't get cramps but today my period is starting and I'm having back pain. I've had the pain a couple days but I spaced it on my period i forgot it might be that causing it. Like I said, it's unusual for me. I have a heating pad on my back and I'm laying down and i took 2 prescription strength ibuprofen (my mom was taking them and then stopped when she had hip replacement surgery). Any other advice?
Avatar n tn It's a real pain, isn't it? For period cramps, I never found anything that necessarily prevented them but found ibuprofen helped very much to alleviate them. For mood swings, being aware helps. If you use an app (medhelp has a good one called mycycles that you can find under health tools)-- you can see the time period in which moodiness will most likely begin. For me, it's week three of my cycle. Like to the letter, that hits and watch out. My evil twin arrives.
Avatar f tn Sometimes we can get cramps a day or two before our periods. Unless this is extreme pain to the point you can't do anything and feels much different than really bad cramps, I'd take some Ibuprofen or something of that sort to help ease the pain.
2164846 tn?1339633520 For the last 3 days or so I've been getting intense period like cramps that seem to be worse at night. I stopped bleeding from a missed mc and was said to have passed everything on June 12. I also took a pregnancy test yesterday morning to make sure my levels were back to normal and it came out neg. It feels like it's my period trying to start, but no sign of blood. Any ideas? Should I see my ob/gyn?
2055843 tn?1332427915 Ibuprofen does usually tend to help with these severe cramps, and keep using the heating pads like you have been. If ibuprofen alone doesn't work (it didn't for me) then your doctor will sometimes prescribe a prescription strength painkiller. Also, if you have a primary care doctor or better yet a gynecologist, discuss this issue with them. Sometimes gynecologists will put people on low-dose birth control to alleviate severe dysmenorrhea.
Avatar n tn m supposed to take 3-4 ibuprofen tablets every 8 hours two days before my period starts and when needed when it does start, but sometimes even that doesn't work and it's difficult to predict exactly when it's going to start. I also don't want to be on any strong prescription medications. I know those have their side effects and carry risk of dependency. I'm worried about all of the Advil I have to take.
Avatar n tn Hi there. Women will have varying degrees of painful cramps. Does ibuprofen help? I wouldn't go to the doctor specifically for this but as you've had your period for 9 years, I'm sure you see an ob/gyn annually for a pelvic exam. If not, then you should be. At that appointment, talk to your doctor about the painful cramps.
