Ibuprofen for nerve pain

Common Questions and Answers about Ibuprofen for nerve pain

ibuprofen

Avatar f tn If the anti-inflamitory aspect of the ibuprofen helps, then it probably is sciatica, and you can use ibuprofen (within reason) for most of the pain, and only use the tramadol when the pain gets intollerable.
374225 tn?1269899262 I just saw that you posted!!!! You have been SOOOOO missed Mama Sherry! You and your family are always in my prayers. How are you? How's your pain? Are you still in Arizona? Lots of changes here. Michael and I are no longer together ... long and complicated. My dad took a couple of falls and just came home from rehab last Friday. He's much more frail than he was, and it really hurts to see him like this. He uses a walker now but I can see he's very nervous with himself.
Avatar f tn 00 before bed, I hurt more than earlier and took some more ibuprofen. It's looking like every 6-8 hours I'll be popping ibuprofen, I'm assuming its from all the novicane they had to use an the tooth being messed with. I figured I'd call the dentist tomorrow afternoon if it doesn't settle down.
Avatar f tn Received another call later, addressing my pain. Neuro suggestng a Pain Mgmt Dr. I see this Dr on 9/4/08. See my surgeon for a follow up exam on 9/3/08. Would you suggest a Cordisone injection if given the option? The elbow, the hand and back of left shoulder still very painfull. some relief from the icing and heat. still taking Ibuprofen, and an hour later with a 500 mg of vicodin and another hour later after the Vicodin, a 600 mg of Neurontin.
Avatar f tn Mechanical pain such as arthritis type pain may require different treatment options - such as nerve ablation which cauterized the small nerve fibers in the facet joints where spinal arthritis is typically worst. If there is instability of the lower spine may require a referral to a board certified spine surgeon to determine if surgery is necessary to stabilize the spine.
Avatar n tn No. It is rather an unintentional result from giving a dental anesthetic injection. When giving what we call a mandibular block or inferior alveolar nerve block injection, we are aiming for a nerve on the inside of the cheek to completely numb the whole nerve. The nerve goes down along the inside of the cheek and goes into the jawbone and provides nerve sensation for the teeth and lip. It also splits up before that to numb the tongue.
Avatar m tn Cranial nerve 5 (trigeminal) is responsible for conveying pain from the anterior (front) and middle cranial fossae, and cranial nerve 10 (vagus) is responsible for the posterior fossa (back).
Avatar n tn I cannot extend finger backwards, cannot place fingers together, get incredible undesrible pain simply doing nothing. Sometimes pain shoots up inside of my palm through my forearm to elbow almost like electrical shock. It is swollen-surgery performed 2/15. I am following exercises doctor advised to no avail. Not on any medication except ibuprofen.
Avatar n tn .....as my GP seemed to think it was all 3!!!!! About 18 months ago I had what I can only describe as a severe pain (pressure) at the top of my abdomen and radiating round to the back. I took a couple of ibuprofen and went to bed. I remember being unable to get comfortable and writhing about - my stomach was also distented. I felt I needed to remove my bra and have a wee - anything to relieve the pressure. The next morning it had gone.
Avatar m tn How do you relieve pain from a pinched nerve to back and lower buttock
Avatar n tn The only thing that works on the nerve pain for me is oxycodone, which my doctor prescribes for me every month. For that "whole-body ache" that goes along with the fibro, however, I have found that what works best is good old ibuprofen. It's funny, you'd think that a fairly strong narcotic like oxycodone would work for just about any pain there is, but that's not how it is for me.
Avatar n tn While I experienced discomfort at night(I was given tylenol 3 for anticipated discomfort), for the first 2 days, the pain was tolerable and I only occasionally needed ibuprofen. By day 4, I was in constant pain. Called dentist, told to continue taking ibuprofen. By day 6, I am in constant pain with ibuprofen. I was prescribed flurbiprofen, 12 hour tabs. I still experience hard general pain toward the end of the 12 hours. I am not hot/cold sensitive. I am not particularly bite sensitive.
Avatar n tn I have tried ibuprofen with no success. So my question is; should I see a specialist about this pain?
Avatar f tn I agree with RunningMom that it sounds like nerve pain. Nerve pain can be very difficult to treat, depending on the origin of it. Did the hospital give you any kind of diagnosis? They must have said something, right? Even if it's just follow up with your own doctor. Until you can see a doctor, or go back to a hospital ER or clinic, ice and ibuprofen can sometimes help as it brings down any swelling.
Avatar f tn There may have been some nerve trauma and it may just take some time for the nerve to heal.
Avatar m tn I suffered a discetomy/laminectomy 20 years ago for a severe L5-S1 herniation. A rather successful operation until now as I've been suffering for leg pain for several months. With the aid of a MRI and an electromiography my neurosurgeon considers it a case of late post-op lumbar fibrosis with a severe radiculopathy from the S1 nerve root. I'm on conservative treatment. (Lyrica150mg/day, Ibuprofen 1200mg/day).
Avatar f tn vitamin B1, 6,12,folic acid and omega 3 fatty acid may help nerve injury recovery. Systemic administration of corticosteroid for a week may reduce post op inflammation. However, if symptoms of nerve injury persists more than 6weeks, pharmacologic management is warranted. Going back to oral surgeon to have a post op exam is advised.
Avatar n tn I would recommend asking your physician for an MRI of your lower back and ordering something else for the pain, i.e. a narcotic and/or a steroid or increasing the dosage of ibuprofen. Please call this physician and tell her you are getting WORSE. Don't wait a month. If she can help you ASAP then go to the ER if this becomes unbearable.
Avatar m tn Can Kidney pain be a side effect of taking Ibuprofen? I was taking ibuprofen last week consecutively for 3 days (400mg t.i.d) after laser eye surgery. A day or so after starting it I experienced mild pain/discomfort in my left flank that came in waves. When I stopped taking the ibuprofen the flank pain also stopped. The next day I took one more dose - the flank pain started again within an hour, but was gone the next day.
Avatar n tn I just came from my dentist and he suggested I take 3 ibuprofen 4 times a day for 3 days to see if it would calm the nerve of a tooth. If it does not, then he suggests a root canal. My main concern is I'm afraid of the stomach problems this might cause. Do I have need to worry? I also take omeprazole to calm my stomach, so am I defeating the purpose? Thank you for your time.
446049 tn?1649005835 I pulled a muscle or pinched a nerve in my lower back. Anti-inflammatories help but it's going on two weeks now and I'm not sure whether to call a chiropractor or orthopedic surgeon. Many years ago, I remember a similiar situation and a chiropractor did some manipulations and cured what was causing the pain. Now I look at chiropractors and they are advertising lasers and spinal decompression along with manipulations. I would think an xray would be the first thing needed?
1029507 tn?1287714315 I was on Neurontin and then Lyrica for nerve pain while undiagnosed. I've taken NSAIDs (both OTC and Rx) which at best take the edge off of my joint pain. I haven't had pain that is both bad and persistent enough to make me consider other options. While I've had periods of more intense pain, they have thankfully been relatively brief. My best (untrained lay-person!) advice is to be open with your doc about the type and severity of pain so that they can do their best to help.
Avatar n tn I Have A Pinched Nerve in my neck and my left arm is where all the pain is. Should My Arn Be Swelling?
Avatar f tn My boyfriend has been having jaw pain for almost a year now, and it is now causing tooth sensitivity, and neck pain which is also causing facial numbness. He's seen 2 dentists, a physician and 2 chiropractors and all anyone has done is prescribed valium and prescription-strength ibuprofin, as well as a custom-fitted nightguard.
3122657 tn?1357432602 Ibuprofen is bad for our livers. Try getting a massage if you can. Bromelian, a natural supplement made from pineapples helps reduce swelling but it takes time to work. Also, make sure you're drinking lots of water, and getting some exercise. Try some yoga too. Pot brownies worked the best for my back pain.
Avatar m tn It is a good idea for your doctor to test you for the neuropathy. I didn't mention this as you didn't ask about it. I am glucose intolerant and was diagnosed a few years ago as having peripheral nerve damage, consultant said "control your diabetes". I am not diabetic. Pain in the feet and legs can also be referred pain from arthritic problems in the lower spine. This is what I have.
Avatar f tn So I was in hospital for two weeks an on all kinds of pain an nerve meds a week after coming out of hospital I found out I was 8 4 weeks pregnant( due to herniated disc an have had two back surgeries an this was my 3 rd herniated disc). I have since delivered 5 weeks early due to placenta abruptoion witch put me in labor.
