The alternative drug would be good old aspirin, which everyone seems to have forgotten about because regular use at levels high enough for it to work for fever and inflammation can tear apart the stomach lining and cause ulcers, but so can ibuprofen and naproxen. All of them can so throw off your digestive tract that even when you stop taking them you might have problems chronically, as happened to me recently after bouts on ibuprofen for a hip problem and then a tooth problem.

I just came from my dentist and he suggested I take 3 ibuprofen 4 times a day for 3 days to see if it would calm the nerve of a tooth. If it does not, then he suggests a root canal. My main concern is I'm afraid of the stomach problems this might cause. Do I have need to worry? I also take omeprazole to calm my stomach, so am I defeating the purpose? Thank you for your time.

Ok, so i've been having inflammation, what helps with it? hashis diagnosed 3 1/2 years ago, current dosage 118.5mcg synthroid.. last labs TSH 14.8 (0.3 - 4.5) FT3 n/a FT4 1.2 ( 0.7 - 1.4) These labs were the reason for the increase in synthroid dosage.. I've been on 118.5mcg for almost 4 weeks now.. i noticed inflammation symptoms started about 2 weeks ago, they are.... "fullness in throat" goiter feeling multiple times per day... Carpal tunnel symptoms...

Ibuprofen is a bloodthinner. They say you arent supposed to take it...only tylenol. Because when you are pregnant the volume of blood in your body increases by 50%. If you were to have an accident, go into preterm labor, etc...you could bleed out and hemmorage. Causing lots of problems!

Thanks for answering Carolan. Actually I really hadn't thought it was a problem to take Ibuprofen in the morning and then Naproxen in the evening (which says NSAID) on the bottle (over the counter). Hmmm I 'm glad you mentioned that. I'm going to look that up but I'll stick to only one kind a day.

I have been having chest pains that worsens when moving and touching the the affected area. Was diagnosed with inflammation of some parts of joints of ribs. Was told to take ibuprofen. The pain gets better but returns. R there other meds???

s alright with your doctor- be sure and ask you cardiologist, take 600 mg of ibuprofen for inflammation when the pain is extra bad, but cyclic would likely be a bad idea (without even asking your doctor) right now with your heart problem, as ibuprofen can increase risk of heart attack, I believe. Alternatively, try a couple extra strength tylenol over the counter medication when the pain is bad.

Tylenol is unveiling new maximum dosage instructions for paracetamol or acetaminophen in the US. The new instructions state a maximum total daily of 3,000 mg versus the old maximum of 4,000 mg. Additionally, it states to take the over the counter dosage every 6 hours instead of every 4 to 6 hours. These new instructions seem to be specific to their over the counter products not prescription medications.

Sound unusually HIGH to me, too. My niece's Great Dane (110lbs.) took the pred. for inflammation and her dose was 50mg. 2@day. My Bichon has taken it for a skin disorder and the most she was given was 5mg. 2@day. There was a discussion about this a couple of weeks ago. In fact the pictures from a prior year colonoscopy were outright rejected because I had been consuming ibuprofen periodically... I was diagnosed with Crohn's in the days when no one had decided to invent the catch-all phrase "Intestinal Bowel Syndrome".

Correct. Ibuprofen or Naproxen, but not both. One or the other. I find Naproxen the most helpful, as it works more quickly. Aleve is a brand name for OTC Naproxen. Tyelenol is in a different category. Non Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDS) are the ones you want to treat inflammation. Aspirin is also in this class. Again, only use one form of these and not all of them.

Sorry I just had to vent a little because I already know I am going to be calling her in two weeks, I have a high tolerance to drugs and Aleve has never been better than Advil for me. I would rather stay on the ibuprofen but will give the naproxen a chance, maybe I will find it is better for some of the other inflammation I have? Thanks for listening to my vent!

My pain is not a pain for tylenol or ibuprofen. I need something stronger for this kind of pain. I need analgesic and antiflamattories.

So far in my experience, Deramax has been the best non-steroidal anti-inflammatory for pain in dogs - particularly for arthritis pain. Rimadyl is a close second and fairly cheap since it's been on the market for years. What kind of pain is your dog experiencing?

Okay... Today I soaked in a warm bath and took ibuprofen for pain and it feels much better! I don't feel as much discomfort as I did before. Thank you both for your help!

Karen, Your platelets are already low, and NSAIDs can increase the risk for bleeding; imho, acetaminophen over the ibuprofen, hands down. With low platelets from tx and a compromised liver and kidney system, any of the NSAIDs are contra-indicated for you (includes Motrin, Advil, Aleve). Tylenol is not to be taken indiscriminately either, though. With cirrhosis, no more than 2000 mg per day max (that means no more than 4 Extra Strength Tylenol in any 24 hour period).

He sent me for an X-Ray which showed early arthritis changes. He sent for a course of Physiotherapy which I attended for 6months. In the end I stopped going because after the initial mild improvement in pain there was no further improvement. I am taking 1500mg Glucosamine Sulphate + 1200mg Marine Chondroitin + 1000mg Omega 3 fish oil daily. Despite this the symptoms have now spread to my right hip, right shoulder and slight symptoms in my right knee.

Sweetie, there is nothing that you can take that is "a night time formula" that would have that much Ibuprofen in a dose. You shouldn't exceed the recommended dosage and if you took something that said it was a night time formula then you probably took something with diphenydramine in it. What are the active ingredients on the bottle? What strength per dose? 2900mg of Ibuprofen plus anything for sleep in not good. You need to tell someone what you took before you go to sleep.

It was 2 hrs before I can have another Vidodin so I took 800mg of ibuprofen. It is still another hour before I can have the Vicodin and I'm trying to be patient but the pain is incredible. Ice pack helps some. Is there anything else I can do... I'm desperate. Would taking a Vicodin only one hour early be dangerous? I am not a drug addict by any means and under normal circumstances, decline meds when offered by the Dr.
